That was choice number 1 😁 if I could find one sharpish. Volume wise, sure the 1x12 would do it. 2x8 probably not toooo far off.

Bergantino vs Barefaced vs Vanderkley - New cab decisions
M@23 replied to Wolverinebass's topic in Amps and Cabs
I had one too. I moved it on as it was overkill for what I needed. Such capable cabs. I much preferred it with clean and powerful amps though. -
Any recommendations on a cheap but workable combo? Need something loud enough to act as a monitor for small gigs, doesn't need to be really loud as I'm not battling an acoustic kit. Does need to have a DI out though and not weigh the earth. The Eden EC15 is looking good for £160. Need it pretty quickly, so probably going to have to buy new.

I really like them too. Very powerful cabs. I really like Markbass cabs, wanted to pick up a 4x10, but decided to go for one of the 2x12s to save space. They're quite chunky with the ports, but if that's not an issue, go for it!

Pretty much word for word what I was about to type! It's comfier too.

My Bass Station 2 cost £230, second hand, mint and boxed. I bought it for the 80s stuff. It's perfect for it!

Interesting! 🤔 Thanks for the tip. It looks like a repainted Fueltank Jr, bar the power cable!

I bought my Bassist back recently, having sold it to a mate about a year ago. I've had quite a few different comps and whilst others were more exciting, it's the Bassist that seems to get business done for me.

I think OC2 is a good sound for this sort of stuff too. However, a Novation BS2 is better!
-
Yep, spot on service. Many thanks 🏆🏆

If it's your stage monitor, wait and see how the room sounds and how you need to balance against the rest of the band?

Did you ever have any feedback from D'Addario about this issue? Or try the NYXL? I really like the EXL Nickels, but I'm having similar issues with them being dead out of the pack. I've never had QC issues with their guitar strings, but the bass strings... 🤔 I can't get a word back from them about it either.

I did! I've gigged it hard too since it arrived and it's really special. The range of tones is fantastic and it's a joy to play. The craftsmanship is incredible. @CameronJ, try one out if you can! I want more of them! Might pick up a 235 next.

Bergantino vs Barefaced vs Vanderkley - New cab decisions

It's one of those things, they'll all be good, but you just have to make the best guess, if you can't try them. Everyone is just going to say what they use is best for X reason. FWIW, I had a VK 212MNT. Don't be put off by it being rated at only 600w... It's a hugely loud cab and took all a 900w amp had to offer. With very strong lows and clear highs. I went back to Markbass however, and for what I want it does the job far better. Its obviously not a better cab, just better suited to what I need. -
I'm not 100% on which of his posts triggered it. I think it was to do with a post where he questioned why people post pictures of their basses? Most of his posts seemed to spark an argument.

Nope. Need to swap that 4ohm cab for another 8ohm if you want to use two together.
-
That's interesting. Which Tone print are you using? I've still not picked a Spectracomp up, as I've been contemplating other units. But, at the price that are, I've decided to get one, regardless.
-
I'm pretty sure it was a bad one. It wasn't even just noise with heavy compression. It was just a noisy pedal. I'm tempted to give another a try though. They get rave reviews and reading Onvilabs, it seems there was a bad batch.
-
Could do. From what's been said, it seems that some tone prints are much noisier than others too.
-
Cheers for that info. From what I've read, that seems a fairly common thing with it. Despite being the cheaper option and only having the one dial, it actually seems like it could be the most versatile option. If you don't like it, you move on to the next Tone Print, or delve into the editor... Right? Would you mind sharing which patch(es) you settled on after that test? 😁

Ah, I had a bad experience of the M87, it added so much noise, even on its own when barely ticking over. I'm sure mine was just a dud (I know there were a few). So I'm reluctant to try another, but maybe I should. Honestly, of the compressors I've owned, the only one which really changed the tone much was the Diamond. I like the sound of my stuff as is, so I'm not too fussed about that. Seems like the TC could do a bit of both, but a usable, quiet compressor is first and foremost. If it tightens/brightens, then that's cool too. I guess, with the TC you get a bunch of options and tone prints. I'm really liking my other TC pedals, the Sub n Up is the coolest octave pedal I've had.
-
Thanks for the feedback all. Really, I've wanted to give the Cali76 a try for a while, but I've been so impressed with the TC mini pedals I've acquired recently, that I feel I owe the Spectracomp a chance. Plus, it's a 3rd the price... And Nathan East has a tone print 😁

Because they're aren't enough compressor threads on BC... I'm after a new compressor, nothing too extreme, just a general always-on, 4:1 or thereabouts. I've had in the past: a Markbass Compressore, which was great, but too big and too power hungry. Keeley Bassist, which was good as a limiter but, but otherwise not really for me. An MXR M87, which was returned as it was SO noisy. A Diamond, which was great, at what it did tone wise, but I wanted a bit more. Now, I'm either about to go all out for a Cali76 Compact Bass or give the Spectracomp a go. Spectracomp is obviously cheap, and I have some TC pedals which I like. But, low floor noise is important and I know the TC might take some tweaking to get the balance right. How are Spectracomp users finding the level of noise with mild(ish) settings? Anyone own both?!

The one that stands out is a 1962 Jazz. Frightening amount of money's worth. But felt very special to hold.
