I agree Blue. I was in 2 bands a couple of years ago and it wasn't an issue. Neither band gigged every weekend. One of them, an originals band, spent more time writing, recording and promoting than playing live. Now I'm in 1 band, but we play 3 or 4 times a week. I'd always be letting someone down trying to juggle another band now, and it wouldn't be fair of me to do so. If I'm free and want another gig then I just pick up a dep gig.

Ah yeah, sorry I misread that. Tbh, they're still worth a try. I really like the Compressore. I only shifted mine because I didn't want another PSU and wanted something smaller. There's a recent thread where a few of us chat about the Keeley Bassist, if budget allows, they're great. Very simple in use, clean and clear like the Markbass and low noise, like the MB too.

I used a Compressore extensively, I don't think you need to worry about the tube, they're pretty sturdy. Get a 2nd hand Spectracomp if it's just for home use? Very well regarded and comparatively cheap.

I'd say it's important in certain contexts. As is being able to slap, shift what you're playing up or down a step on the fly, play with a pick, contribute with BVs... And countless other skills. If you want to play jazz gigs it's obviously a bigger deal than rock gigs.

Best Bass Distortion Pedal - EHX Bass Big Muff Reviewed
M@23 replied to HughRichardson's topic in Effects
I forgot I owned one until it was returned from a (very) long term loan a few days ago. I recorded some tracks with it years ago and it got a cool sound. But, live, I just don't like it. It's already been advertised and sold. So I can't be too upset with it! -
The everything at 12 setting for me on the Keeley only really catches when I dig in or am on the B string. It's very sensitive though, if I went to minus 25 then it'd likely compress every note. Actually, I probably have it set slightly left of noon. Minus 22/23 or so! It's certainly the quietest compressor I've used. At the settings I use it doesn't amplify any hiss. The only thing i dislike it that the knobs move TOO easily... So it's lucky I do have it all at 12!
-
General compressor for me. 4:1, on all the time. First in the chain, after tuner.
-
What settings are you using with the Keeley? For me, it's an always on, and the 3 dials are at noon... Not too exciting, but it's what works! Haha.
-
I should give it a thorough write up, really. I've had it over 3 months now and it's done at least 2 gigs a week since, I think the honeymoon period is over, its not a 'new' bass anymore. It's replaced a Sadowsky 5. Which was great too. Definitely interested in the black 425!
-
Bas, I want your white 1025 😁 The new BBP35 is astonishingly good. Think I'll look to pick up a 235 next, unless I can find a 425 when the time comes. Wish I'd tried the BB's years ago!

Messaged earlier, unfortunately too far for collection. Bargain for someone though! Cheers.

That was choice number 1 😁 if I could find one sharpish. Volume wise, sure the 1x12 would do it. 2x8 probably not toooo far off.

Bergantino vs Barefaced vs Vanderkley - New cab decisions
M@23 replied to Wolverinebass's topic in Amps and Cabs
I had one too. I moved it on as it was overkill for what I needed. Such capable cabs. I much preferred it with clean and powerful amps though. -
Any recommendations on a cheap but workable combo? Need something loud enough to act as a monitor for small gigs, doesn't need to be really loud as I'm not battling an acoustic kit. Does need to have a DI out though and not weigh the earth. The Eden EC15 is looking good for £160. Need it pretty quickly, so probably going to have to buy new.
-
I really like them too. Very powerful cabs. I really like Markbass cabs, wanted to pick up a 4x10, but decided to go for one of the 2x12s to save space. They're quite chunky with the ports, but if that's not an issue, go for it!
-
Pretty much word for word what I was about to type! It's comfier too.

My Bass Station 2 cost £230, second hand, mint and boxed. I bought it for the 80s stuff. It's perfect for it!
-
Interesting! 🤔 Thanks for the tip. It looks like a repainted Fueltank Jr, bar the power cable!
-
I bought my Bassist back recently, having sold it to a mate about a year ago. I've had quite a few different comps and whilst others were more exciting, it's the Bassist that seems to get business done for me.
-
I think OC2 is a good sound for this sort of stuff too. However, a Novation BS2 is better!
-
Yep, spot on service. Many thanks 🏆🏆

If it's your stage monitor, wait and see how the room sounds and how you need to balance against the rest of the band?
-
Did you ever have any feedback from D'Addario about this issue? Or try the NYXL? I really like the EXL Nickels, but I'm having similar issues with them being dead out of the pack. I've never had QC issues with their guitar strings, but the bass strings... 🤔 I can't get a word back from them about it either.
-
I did! I've gigged it hard too since it arrived and it's really special. The range of tones is fantastic and it's a joy to play. The craftsmanship is incredible. @CameronJ, try one out if you can! I want more of them! Might pick up a 235 next.

Bergantino vs Barefaced vs Vanderkley - New cab decisions
M@23 replied to Wolverinebass's topic in Amps and Cabs
It's one of those things, they'll all be good, but you just have to make the best guess, if you can't try them. Everyone is just going to say what they use is best for X reason. FWIW, I had a VK 212MNT. Don't be put off by it being rated at only 600w... It's a hugely loud cab and took all a 900w amp had to offer. With very strong lows and clear highs. I went back to Markbass however, and for what I want it does the job far better. Its obviously not a better cab, just better suited to what I need.
