1. Brand new, unopened. Bought a spare set when I got the bass, but have since discovered nickels. There are zingy, bright and last ages. The B string is tapered. Price includes UK postage.
2. I don't have one, but before all the Hiscox recommendations come in (and rightly so) try find one to try for size before buying. They're a fraction too short for two different 5 string jazzes I've tried. I like the Gator GPE TSA too.
3. Small, 40-46". About 6 months old. Very good condition.
4. £32 Posted! These have seen about 6 hours of rehearsal on my Sadowsky; which is a 34" scale, with a top loading bridge. The strings are not really even broken in yet. Simply, I'm in two bands, one plays country, one weddings/functions. I only own one bass and whilst these sound great for one band, they just don't work for the other. Shame, as they really sound HUGE. Just, not cutting enough for 80s tunes and slap stuff, so I've gone back to rounds. If funds allowed I'd pick up a P bass for these... if they don't sell I'll keep them with that in mind. The set comes with an extra, unused, A string. Gauges are .45 .65 .85 (plus spare) .105 .128 - tapered B. Price includes jiffy bag and UK postage.
5. Great amps. Simple but effective!
6. I had to check the website out. I'm guessing English isn't his first language; but still... It reads terribly, shame your feedback wasn't well recieved. Might email to advise "comfortability" isn't a word.
7. It could well be the string. I've recently had the same thing with La Bella DTF. It's where the windings aren't 100% tight. For me, I need a new A string, which they supplied. The rest still buzzed a touch but have become better with Fast Fret and being played. Apparently this is fairly common on double basses.
8. Yep. For nearly two years I've just had one bass. I'm starting to look at getting a second for another band that needs a different vibe. But, i much prefer not having a spare room full to the brim of cases. Also, thinking more about the way you play rarher than just reaching for another bass has been a good lesson.
9. I think it depends how you learn too. If you have good ears and know a bit of chord theory then working the basics out only takes a few minutes, for straight forward pop tunes anyway. Another reason the numbers system is so useful, is that many people can play parts brilliantly in the original key; but only in that key!
10. I don't have either anymore, but did have a Fueltank Jr velcro'd to the bottom of a Nano+, without modification.
11. Joe Osborn was a Jazz/La Bella guy, I think. I'm thinking of putting flats on an active 5 string jazz. Keen to give the Dunlops a go.
12.
Neotech Mega Strap. Got fed up of the Mono slipping down all the time.
This. I bought the MONO for a change, and it is comfy... but, it slips in no time at all. I'm going back to Neotech.
13. I'd like to know too, I thought it was just the blocks and matched headstock that were different?
14. I'm interested in this too and was gonna fire off an email tonight to enquire. They quoted me $275 delivery for a hard case, so who knows. From my brief research, sending my MV5 guard off and having some one like SIMS use it as a template for having one made seems the easiest/best option. Out of interest, what are you after? I want a tortoiseshell for my Metro 5.
15. Resale will be fine if you buy 2nd hand. You'd take a big hit from buying new though. I had a Sandberg California VM5 Supreme, which was a cool bass. Not the most refined and a bit hefty. It was a great looker. Versatile and a range of useable tones too.
16.
I wish they had maple boards too, though I've definitely seen a picture of a 2025 with a maple board but it was incredibly rare if I recall.
I tired to get a maple board 2024x a couple of years ago, which sold pretty much the moment it went it to stock. I thought I was in there early doors, but someone must have pulled the trigger the second they saw it.
17. Only acceptable reason not to is because you're putting that cash towards a 2025!
18. Thanks for the replies. The Hiscox is getting sent back. As nice as it is, I'm going to look elsewhere rather than take a hammer to the padding of a new case. I'm thinking about just going back to a Fusion gig bag... but will hold out for a hard case as it will need to be back of the van proof. I'm going to try the SKB Pro. The same as the ones you get with Fender US Standards. Hopefully my bass's undersized jazz body will fit!
19. The whole 'x sells this so they wouldn't like Barefaced' argument is a bit tired. Plus, do Bass Gear actually carry Bergantino products anymore?
20. Looks great. I really like these. I also like that Fender supply a proper case.
21.
This is not uncommon, I know a few luthiers who have to "mod" the case appropriately - and the mod is.... get out your hammer and hammer the padding down about one cm at the body side and about one cm where the headstock is. If you go up to the larger case, the case is too large and its not as snug as you would want it to be.
Oh good, I was wondering whether that would be an acceptable thing to do. The case is solid as a rock, so I don't really want to send it back.
22. So, the case arrived today. For the benefit of any future researchers... It's VERY well built. But, i wouldn't recommend the STD EBS for a 5 string jazz. Not if my Sadowsky is anything to go by. I've no idea if it is a standard length. But the case is about 2cm too short to house it 100% comfortably. It fits in the Shell, but the padding on the top lid overlaps, and therefore piniches the headstock. I don't think it would fare well against a heavy hit to the headstock end. Especially if it were dropped on that end, as there is less 1cm clearance between the tip of the headstock and case.
23.
Gigged with one 112ext and LM3 yesterday. More than enough for a small venue like a pub or a restaurant. Even at relatively low volume great sound and sufficient low end. If I ever join a louder band I will get myself another 112ext. without second thought. Love the sound, love the weight, love the dims.
I use a 212MNT, thinking about getting an 112EXT for use as a standalone and to make a 3x12 too!
24. Cheers guys. Hiscox = ordered.
25. I'm after a hardcase for a 5 string Sadowsky J5. What are people using? I'm looking at the usual contenders, Hiscox and SKB mostly. Main concern is a good fit from a generic case and having enough room round the headstock for a 4+1 tuner config. I've had SKB Fender cases and they certainly did the job protection wise, and are fitted to Fender shapes, so should suit a Sadowsky. But, no one ever has a bad word to day about Hiscox! I guess the Standard EBS would fit? Any help/recommendations greatfully received.
