1.
If you don't run a monitor on the existing setup, I would look to go powered for your PA and with the PA you mention above, use the Aux (monitor) feed into a powered sub.
Nice one mate. I wondered if I could plumb it in that way. Cheers.
2.
Hmmm.... subs are a tough call and need research. Also, what comes into the equation in weight and size and this further skews the process. Things like the Mackie thumps aren't good but it depends how discerning you can afford the be. For me, I'd start with RCF but they aren't cheap (705's upwards) but if you only use one...~(which is 'enough' for a pub) you start the compromise. Active just for convenience and the light issue also means space and weight become factors. Yam DXS12/15 are decent ... but be reasonable with your expectation...Kick and depth is fine. If you want serious oomph and performance you will need to look further up the tree. For a pubs, small club function, the 12' subs are ok... but not much further even with 2, IMO.
Food for thought, thanks. In my old band we had a nice Soundcraft mixer and decent power amp, which is now unused. Maybe I'd be better buying the others and of that and getting a sub to go with that setup. Not too fussed on the size and weight of the sub, without getting ridiculous.
3.
That peavey mixer is fairly low powered so you can rule out being able to drive passive sub/top pairs with it. Yes you could add active sub(s) but you would still have a full range signal going to the tops which isn't a show stopper but not the most efficient use of the peavey amp. If you have the 12 or 15 inch impulse tops then they are massively over specced for the mixer output power I'd be very temped to bypass the built in amp and drive those tops with a decently powerful external amp, you might find that you dont need subs.
Ah, ok. That's very interesting. Thank you. The tops are the 12" ones.
4. I said this in another thread recently; I love having one bass. When I played guitar, at one point I had about a dozen of the things. God knows why. I've had one main gigging bass for about 2 years and really like the consistency and familiarity you get. Plus, it helps me justify spending a filthy amount on one bass - I've still spent less than if I had 4 or 5 cheaper ones...
5. Hi, My band runs a set of Peavey Impulse tops through a Peavey XR684 powered mixer, this is all the guitarist's gear. I do want to buy my own PA eventually, but short term we'd like to add a sub. I'm a bit lost as to whether I need active or passive though? Active seems like the way to go but would that pair alright with the passive tops and PA? I've no idea! Just looking at cheaper units like Alto and Behringer 12 or 15 inchers.
6. Dunlop Jazz III and the XL version. Used them for years as a guitarist and are the only picks I use now too.
7.
Ah! I had forgotten about that. My existing Puma is relatively recent and I really like it, so it seems likely that the Eich's will be similar to that.
As far as I'm aware, they're pretty well identical. My Puma 900 has cured my amp GAS. It's like my old LM2 but with better EQ.
8. The banner photo on the homepage; even if you are ugly - it looks wrong. Also, this bit: "..............one helluva rock covers band - playing live all over the South East of England" I'm being fussy, but, an ellipsis only needs three dots. I would use a capital O for 'one' too; as it seems like the start of a sentence. But, that could be argued against. The site is nice and clean and easy to navigate. I just think the homepage could look sharper.
9. Good to know it fots a 4+1. I've been thinking about a Hiscox for my Sadowsky 5. I emailed them and they can supply additional pads to pad out the case. That's my main concern with standard 'one size fits all' cases, that the bass would rattle around in there.
10. It's sometimes unavoidable. If you've toured or gigged a lot you will have had to stop fuel or a pee or food on the late drive home... Just get proper insurance and take the necessary precautions where possible.
11. Had Friday off and then a double header Saturday. An early wedding, which was in a marquee woth torrential rain, thunder and lightening all round. The generator held out and it was all good. Then, a pub we do regularly afterwards, there were two different hen parties out, so it was a bit wild. Loads of singing and dancing though, so great fun! A good set of gigs, but I'm a gig a night guy nowadays! Back to back in one night is a bit of a slog!
12. Nice one Lozz. If it helps, or hinders... The AMB600 is an utterly brilliant amp. I don't have one as I love my Puma, but having used one; it'd sound great pushing 6x10s.
13. As far as EQ goes, I'd say the opposite is true. You should always send your signal pre EQ.
14. Both, if you're selling that Alpher! So many variables, it's hard to give a simple answer. Precision for me, if we're talking traditional Fender. Otherwise, jazz, if we're including the active Jazz V clones.
15. That's very nice! There must be a good market for these. Wonder if it'll become part of the range, in a non limited edition sort of way.
16. There was a pair that went for a silly low price on here not too long ago. Shame Bass Direct won't be carrying them, the exchange rate isn't favourable though.
17.
No... it is exactly NOT just volume. The SVT experience will put that into perspective but until you'd tried it ..people wont quite get it. Tone hammers go loud but they definitely haven't got it, for instance.... but it is pointless arguing if people think they do their job. When you know, you know. BTW... an SVT isn't about a great sound as they can be tonally lacking, IMO, but they set a standard for bass rig monitors for what they do on a stage. No one says, crap, I've got to play thru an SVT/810 tho..
Yep, I'd agree. I didn't love the sound at all. It was gnarly and driven, not what I'd go for at all. But, we had a 15k rig. This was just my monitor. The power was astonishing. Wherever I was on stage, and it was a big stage, you could just feel it. Like you say, it is certainly not just volume. It's hard to find the adjectives, I've played some lovely bass rigs. Many I prefer the sound of, but none match the 8x10 and SVT for 'heft'; and I can't wait to use that rig again sometime.
18.
ok i, new here ?
Ok. Fair enough. Wrong forum dude, this has only just been bought and I doubt it's for sale. I have seen an Xotic 5 in the for sale forum recently, although not the lightweight version.
19.
availabe ? trades ?
Come again?
20. Undoubtedly a quality player. Seems like a good bloke as well. Im not sure what he does outside of teaching, probably not a huge amount as running his business is probably more than a full time job! But, he has seems to have mastered the bass to the point that he would be a top session player/touring musician if that is the direction he chose, as opposed to teaching. Maybe he did that in the past, I don't know?
21.
So punch, punch, or is punch, heft?
It was your standard sort of hefty punch, really. Punch is heft when punch is hefty.
22.
thanks for all the replies guys, all is now sorted. as mentioned above it was just a communication problem & me being impatient too. just goes to show you jumping to conclusions without getting all the facts is not the way to go. i am a tit. please ignore me
Nice one for holding your hands up. The man in question has posted an open response to this on FB, which I'm sure you're aware of.
23. Y.O.B for me, I wonder if she is 30 yet. Not surprised you're unsure about selling!
24. I had a 78/79, very cool bass. Looked amazing, but.... weighed a ton. Really, it wasn't as good as the 2014 I had at the same time either. Just was worth twice as much and had more mojo.
25. I've been there too. Exact situation. Time to move on to something new!
