1. I gigged one, when I broke my leg and couldn't cart my own rig to gigs! I borrowed this off the guitarist. It was a 120XL I believe. It was good, used it without PA at two smaller gigs and with PA support on NYE at a big function. I did have to push it hard, they're not cheap and if you don't need the effects you can probably find a more suitable combo for gigging without PA support. For acoustic bands it'd be OK but did struggle against even a small kit played with brushes.
2.
Never played covers. Do you think I'd get something out of it? I suppose the hard part would be finding a band that didn't play music I hate.
Deoends on the tyoe of covers you do, but generally I think it does help you improve you as a player. Some lines you have to play as they were written, so you need a good ear, and to be able to switch between techniques like pick/fingers/slap. Plus, your singer won't be able to sing everything in its original key so you'll need to be able to transpose on the fly. It is a completely different game to originals.
3. I had a 2012 Jazz, it was really nice. Looked great in white/rosewood and sounded great. I recorded a full album with it and the producer opted to use it over his '77. It had a very deep and dark tone to it. The only issue I had was it had absolutely zero shielding from Fender, so was very noisy.
4.
I'm using a Puma 300 with mine, and it's brilliant.
I've no experience of how they match with One10 but as a Puma user, was also going to recommend one.
Haha! I literally did the same thing a few weeks ago! Congratulations man. I bought a five string NYC from Bass Direct for my 'I'm turning 30' moment. I bought it about a month ago but haven't played it yet as it was delivered to Orkney and I'm in Glasgow until Saturday. I've had a 4 string Metro for over six years now. Great bass.
Oh cool. What finish did you go for? The Fender and Mayones I compared it to were nice, but it just felt like the Sadowsky was the finished product. The build quality and attention to detail is ace.
1: that is lovely. 2: Anyone aged 40 or under who says "now or never" needs beating with their lovely new bass. Smeg I feel old.
Haha. Thanks. What I mean is, I can only justify it with the wife because of the 'event' of turning 30. I will, however, try play the same card on my 40th and indeed 50th...
9. I turned 30 earlier in the week. I'd decided a while ago that I was going to ask for a bit of cash and part ex an old bass and get myself something (very) nice, 1) to mark the occasion and 2) it's now or never! I'd looked at everything that was out there, made my mind up and changed it several times over and then got the chance to play a Sadowsky. It was a 4 string and I was after a 5. But I really liked it and hours of research later decided it could be a good option. Some of the other options were Mayones and the new Fender Elite. So today I made the trip to Guitar Guitar in Epsom to try them all out. The Sadowsky was by a margin the most expensive, so it's not the fairest comparison. But in my hands it just felt better. It was the only one that was 'perfect'; the frets, neck pocket, balance, feel and sound. There was nothing I didn't like about it. So, I'm now the proud owner of a Sadowsky MV5. I've got 10 gigs over the next month and can't wait to get to know it better! 10. There are quite a few I've moved on and regretted at some point. Probably only two I'd buy back given the chance now though, a 2012 US Standard P bass in 3TS. It was light, resonant and beautifully finished. Just an awesome P bass. The other was another P bass; a 1996 Japanese Fender 50th anniversary model in shell pink. I'd put CTS pots in, a Custom Shop pickup and it had a tortie Bass Doc pickguard. It was simply the coolest bass I've owned.
11. Mesa gear always looks solid. Very manly looking rig you have there.
12. Selling my Fusion case as my new bass comes with a decent fitted case. This is a quality case, that is in mint condition. It has had very light use. It is the newer model, the replacement for the old Fusion F1. Unfortunately I'm away at the moment, so can't get any pics up until Friday evening. It is the all black version and comes with a rain cover. Though, the case is so well made with quality materials, I've never felt the need to use it. I'd say it offers most of the protection of a hardcase, but you can comfortably strap it to your back. I had and sent back a Protec Contego and Mono M80 before finding this. As seen: https://www.fusion-bags.com/products/urban-bass-guitar-gig-bag Procedures at £90 which will include UK postage.
13. A tone pot that works in active mode is a cool idea, how does it work in practice? Does it respond in active as it does in passive? The 2k 5 string jazz market has so many great instruments to choose from.
14. Wow... That's something a bit special.
15. Can't belive this is still here. Bargain! Scott is a top dude too. Deal with confidence.
16. Some flats sound better with use too. I like Fender flats, which come with some sort of coating, they always felt better after a month. Also, on a good Precision, Deep Talkin' Flats are something special.
17. These look so nice. BD have a pink Xotic, since selling my shell pink P bass, I've had a hankering for another outrageous coloured bass. How is the pre? I like all the options you can get for frequency selection.
18. I'm keen to try an Elite 5. Sounds like the N4 pickups are a genuine upgrade over the N3. They look great, hopefully the low B will be a good one.
19. It must be your gear that I was eyeing up on Instagram! All of it looks great. I just got a VdK 212. It's a very impressive cab.
20. Bump. Still here for now. Trade offers for 5 strings welcome, particularly nice jazz basses.
21. I use Schallers as I wanted to be able to take the strap off easily when putting the bass into its case. I used Grolsch/Fender washers before that and do prefer them though.
22. Can't believe this is still here. If I could afford to keep it for smaller gigs, it would be amazing. I need the cash though, unless my bass sells first, this is still up for grabs.
