1. Very important to me too. We do a lot of weddings and corporate gigs. We dress smart on stage, so having a cab with a rusty grill and ripped/chipped tolex would look out of place. As much as I actually like them, roadworn basses are a no go too. I much prefer classic styling too, rather than something covered in flashing LEDs.
 2. I'm putting Sandberg up for sale. I've not had it long at all - less than a year. I really do like this bass a lot. But, i'm playing at least three times a week and my back can't take it. Therefore, unfortunately, i need to move this on and get something feather weight. This bass weighs 10 lbs exactly - so isn't a back breaker, it's just because of the amount of playing i'm doing and due to a bad back anyway, i need something super light. It is a real quality instrument. Fit and finish are perfect. It plays wonderfully and has a great low B. It balances perfectly on the strap too. It has a Sandberg gigbag with it. I have done quite a few gigs with it, BUT, i am beyond careful with my gear and it is in extremely good condition. It has no gouges, dings or chips whatsoever. I'll say 9.5 out of 10. It could pretty much pass as new. I am based on the Isle of Wight, so collection from here, Portsmouth, Southampton or Lymmington are preferable. I could post at buyers expense, if needed. But i'd rather not as it isn't in a hard case. I could be tempted by trades for light weight 5s. Sadowskys/Mike Lull's etc... The spec goes something like this:

Neck: 6 x bolted / canadian hardrock maple
Fretboard: 22 frets, block inlays, matched headstock
Scale: 864 mm / 34"
Body: Alder
Finish: Creme
Pickups: 1 Sandberg splitcoil / 1 Sandberg powerhumbucker
Preamp: Glockenglang 2-band, active / passive, passive tone control
And the sun is out! 3.
I don't know about the Vanderkley, but looking at your list, I'm fairly confident that the TKS S112 uses the Eminence Beta 12. They describe it as a ceramic Eminence driver and the specs check out. I also found an older post on a Finnish bass forum (via Google translate) where Tommy from TKS refers to using the Beta 12 in the earlier 112 model, the one before they changed the styling and added the S to the name.
You're right, this is what Tommy told me when I ordered mine.
 4. Wow, what a looker. Never really paid much attention to Mayones but am finding myself quite drawn to the BE 5 Ash on Bass Direct's website!
 5.
My inner pedant is going mental right now, don't Sandberg use Glockenklang pre-amps? I've no experience with Delanos though, they always seem to be described as Hi-Fi which I don't like so much. I find the Hi-Fi sound to be too electronic sounding and much prefer a more natural sound. Maybe I just don't like active electronics but then again I'm getting a Sadowsky pre fitted to my Lull at the minute so go figure!
Yeah, you're right. I got a bit sidetracked at the mention of Sandberg and my answer was related to them! The same things get said about the Glock with it being hifi. I really like that it is simple, quiet and not too overpowering.
 6.
Yes I thought this too - very clean hi-fi sound on the Sandberg VM-5 I had, but actually quiet low output.
Yeah, I really like this about it. I have a VM5 too and switching between active and passive can be done without the need for amp adjustments.
 7. There are so many top cabs to choose from, you pays your money's and takes your pick. I'll throw in my vote for TKS as I normally do. But, honestly, if you can't try them; use the search facility to try form your own conclusions and make your decision. There are probably 10 or so companies making top quality lightweight cabs that are all different flavours. of great. It's down to price/look and which flavour of great you're after. FWIW I chose TKS over the competition because, they weigh 10kg per ceramic 1x12, were cheaper than the alternatives (though that wasn't the clincher), the support and customer service i had received was great, the build quality is impeccable, I could customise the aesthetics, they are physically compact little cabs, have a very tight bass response, lovely articulate midrange and just sounded like solid, proper bass cabs. They work perfectly in my functions band and I've had no desire to change them yet.
 8. Great British Bass Lounge? They stock Barefaced.
 9. I only use the third for playing triplets. Otherwise it's two all the way. I like the thumb for palm muted stuff too.
 10. Well, I'm on the Isle of Wight... will be playing at the IOW Festival this year, have played it once before and it was an incredible experience.
 11. Mega cringe. I did a pub gig once with a wicked drummer, who has played many tours with a world famous artist, who folded his arms and sat there in silent protest when he got his 'solo'. It was all very playful and done in jest, and the crowd enjoyed it more than they would have a drum solo most probably!
 12. YouTube will have a ton of stingray specific vids. That's probably your best bet.
 13. I was thinking about this recently. I would like a 6 to add a high B... ex guitarist here too!
 14. Thomann had a black model in stock yesterday for an incredible price. Today it has gone... own up, who snapped it up?
 15.
Dave Swift???
Gets my vote too.
 16.
Talk me out of it.
Sorry mate, can't. Im destined for an L5 too. It makes perfect sense. It would cost at least 50% more from any other manufacturer too.
 17.
I can't comprehend the old "I can't afford it" wail though.
What's not to understand?
 18. Yikes. TH 500 is £751 from a few UK retailers. It is available for less elsewhere. Mine was £500 not too much more than a year ago.
 19. We've been asked once, in hundreds of gigs. It was at an English Heritage site, probably one of the grandest houses in the country. The sockets are all under the floorboards, to keep them out of sight, only; having been recently refurbished, the workman had nailed the removable panels from the floorboards down. So we had to daisy chain extension leads from an outside power source in the belting rain. It wasn't too exposed, just, very frustrating given how fussy they were and given the list of rules we had to adhere to that something this simple wasn't checked.
 20. I use the Korg too. Haven't gigged with my TU-2 for over a year now. Im curious to try the TC though. No massive complaints about the Korg. It can occasionally struggle on the low B and does rattle sometimes on the headstock. But, like I said, haven't used my TU-2 in ages so that's a big plus for it.
 21. Tanglewood Nashville TNSF-CE electro acoustic, with hardcase. Really nice sounding guitar. Brand new. On the Isle of Wight. Can deliver to Lymington, Southampton or Portsmouth for £10. Will not post this one though. It does come with a lovely case, but nice as it is, I wouldn't ship an acoustic in less than a flight case
 22. I didn't realise there was a new model. So I'll follow this thread with interest; if the Internet Police permit me to do so.
 23. I'd say get whatever you have a hankering for the most. I turn a certain age in May and want to get something a bit special. I have a Sandberg 5 too. I'm thinking Maruszcyk 5 string next as they look great and I already know I really like Delano pickups and the Glock 2EQ. If you use a 5 now I'd stick with a 5, unless you don't use the B.
