That's kinda cool. I might be warming to singlecuts...

Oh, that's a massive shame. Not knowing much about them, is that likely to be the end or will they continue without this chap?

Before reading your post and going off thread title alone, the Berg CN212 is the one that jumps to mind for me. There are a couple of very keenly priced 2nd handers about too.

Lovely bass. Hope your brother is alright and they get it sorted soon.

Master Blaster, one of my favourite songs and great bass throughout. I've just learnt Play That Funky Music and Disco Inferno for a NYE gig, I don't like either song much, but both have good grooves.
-
No experience of them, but keen to try. I have mk1 VM5 Supreme, which is mega and I think it was pretty much the last available new one. I do like the look of the newer ones though.

Definitely, if you're happy then that's it. Unless you really know what you're looking at, choosing things based off of the spec sheet could be a bit risky. Not talking bass gear necessarily. When I worked in Jessops 9 out of 10 people wanted the camera with the most megapixels for their cash - that's literally all that mattered. We probably lost sales by trying to suggest that wasn't even half the story and not always the best way to go about it. Not saying that happens with music gear as commonly, just that marketing people are clever at what they do! Great if you can read a spec sheet and know straight away what will and won't work for you but most people probably cannot.

Give the sales forums a search and see how much they usually go for. Cool amps, I wouldn't mind one myself!

My old guitar tutor had a Yamaha electric guitar with a proper built in tuner and 7 segment display. Ugly as sin! Can't imagine it would be that handy on a gig either as it is on the front on the body.
I wonder if we've all got a bit caught up in the hunt for the perfect flat response / hi-fi / super sensitive / massive handling etc. cab over recent years, and forgotten that - for a lot of us at least - a nice driver in a good, well designed & built box gives us the classic bass sound we've got in our heads after all. That's what happened to me, anyway...!
This is true for me and what my response to the above question would have been. I've had other cabs that proclaim to be louder and 'hi-fi' or modern and whatever else and a lot of them sounded sterile and boring in the mix. The tks may not be cutting edge technology, but i'm glad of that. They are beautifully built and make my bass sound like I believe it should. No massive sub bass and no shrill clangy highs. How lucky we are to have such a choice to suit all tastes.

Glad it is working out! It's a beautiful bass.
PJB Compact 4. That is all.
Good call. I think I'm going to sell my Double 4 and get one of these.

New shaped Sandbergs have smaller bodies and headstocks, to compensate.
-
I had green silk Fender flats on two Precisions for a couple of years, there were no issues! They are very high tension.
-
I used an Ashdown ABM500, which I think is still class D and it was great. It weighed more than my cabs, which are ceramic 12s but was still managable. Would be interested to hear your ABM1000 Kevin, will have to come to one of your gigs at some point.

So that's the Custom Shop after sales care? Awful customer service.

Emailed Adrian at 11:52 asking about options and pricing for a super light Elwood 5.. He emails back at 11:56 with a detailed and informative reply!

I was going to say I'm not sure, as I haven't used TC RS cabs... But this is copied and lasted from TC's website: ...'As well as being easy to carry, RS112 maintains the RS range's 'stackability' concept. All the cabinets in the range may be stacked together in various combinations. The RS112, for example, fits perfectly under an RS210, making it an ideal combination for small to mid-sized gigs...'
-
If you like your sound, maybe look at shifting one 212 and getting two rs112 - Thomann have them for £180, half the price they are here in the UK! You might even get away with one, if your gigs aren't outrageously loud.
I take your point (and I also may not know what I am talking about) but aren't the overdrive/distortion/fuzz/tubescreamers doing what the modern hi-gain heads are doing?
Nah, modern hi-gain like Mesa, Diezel, Engl et all have a ton of gain baked in and available. Tubescreamers and Boss SD-1 pedals were used with the gain very low, or at zero and the volume up to push the front end on Marshalls and crunchy 'British' amps to get the valves cooking. It's just a clean boost to saturate the valves and kind of acts as a preset EQ. Edit to say, with a Marshall or Laney type amp it still won't provide that Peavey 5150 chainsaw type distortion. It is a 'cleaner' drive. Even with heavy metal, this is still very popular for recording, maybe not so for live use.

Re Cee-Lo: 'sh*t sounds terrible'. The man puts it pretty well himself.
I like 'buckers for heavy grunt and singles for clarity. Depends on my mood. I have heard people say you can't play metal on a Tele : bullshit. It's all about eq and proper control of your rig. Just as it is with bass.
Teles are perfect for metal. We used to quad track guitars with really, really tight guitarists. For that Teles were perfect as they had tightness and clarity needed. Much bigger sound than one EMG loaded ESP with too much gain. OP, sorry man. It'll be your guitarists and their amps, EQ and technique, not the fact that they play humbuckers that is making the sound muddy.

Yeah, seems like a top bloke. Great player and very thoughtful and natural teacher too.
