1.
I haven't even got mine yet and I'm contemplating another one...
Just been and checked the Facebook page and there is a natural finish Elwood L 5 string that went to Barcelona. It weighed 3.55kg and looks stunning. Crikey, that's my 30th birthday gift sorted, I think.
2.
8.5 lb
It should be 8lbs 13, I believe. My baby was just born bang on 4kg a few weeks ago! Haha. They measure metric, but also state imperial, as people still want to know lbs and ounces when weighing babies, and basses too it seems. Anyway, a couple more longish gigs this weekend and my shoulder is painful after recent neck and back problems. It might be time to start thinking about an Elwood L5 little more seriously...
3.
I've never been a big fan of the J-retro as a unit (though I admire Jon's work in general). I prefer Sadowsky (available as a pedal too) for a J. I have an Agi OBP3 too - impressive but in a Spector not a Fender type
Only had a quick blast through the Sadowsky pedal, but, sounded really great.
4. I use two of them with a TH500, no tweeters here and over a hundred gigs in I've not wanted for tweeters once. If you're unsure, getting one with a tweeter might be worthwhile, you can always dial it out if you don't like it.
5. I had a 1996 50th anniversary in Shell Pink. I want it back :-(
6. Much of a muchness, I'd imagine. Even though the Aguilar is 250w at 8 ohm, it can be pushed quite hard.
7.
But he's not playing in a band situation and is clearly doing it to show off his skills. Not my thing but fair play to him.
Why can't people see this? It's odd some people get worked up over stuff like this.
8. I have one of these, albeit in a different finish and if a new baby hadn't eaten (not literally) any spare cash I own, I'd bite your hand off for this. Absolutely phenomenal instruments. Gutted I can't add a Sunburst one to my collection!
9. I don't need this, but it almost seems rude not to at this price. Trade in value probably isn't far off what it's being offered at!! Have a bump...
10. Have a go on each and see what you like best. Flats on a Precision is pretty much guaranteed success IMO, though. Rich, warm, thumpy low mids; it's a classic.
11. Just seeing the thread title made me shiver... We used it a bit at uni, it wasn't my sort of thing and was a bit of a nightmare I seem to remember! Best of luck!
12. I'm seriously thinking about getting a swamp ash 5, these look great.
13.
True of The Beatles???
If that's a reference to Ringo, without wanting to open this can of worms, he was quite simply the perfect man and drummer for the job.
14.
I've had this problem for a number of years living in Portsmouth, only recently have I been in a position to venture further afield, and even now it's limited to how far and when I can get out the area. Down here the music is VERY same-y, that's not to say the bands aren't good, it's that the market is oversaturated by the same type of band and gigs all become much of a muchness. We have 4 distinct genres down here; British Rock, think The Who, Jam, Weller. Blues Rock, Metal (I'm gonna use a BIG brush here as there are too many bands that all sound the same but define themselves as different sub-genres), and finally Punk. This is outside of the general cover bands that do a bit of this, and a bit of that. Most bands die a death as they get a head of steam up playing 4-5 gigs in as many months then decided to work on new material away from gigging, then die from a lack of interest and ability to sustain the non-gigging times. I'm dying to go to a gig and hear some different stuff, it won't happen though.
That's a shame. I'm on the Isle of Wight, which is pretty good. Having two major festivals has helped, but we have a great scene with some great venues and brilliant bands. You should catch the fastcat and head over!
15. And that's the reason I don't gear share my rig.
16. I used to use whichever I felt like as I was stepping out the door. Not so much of an issue now I only have one main bass. I'd go through phases though of preferring one to the other, then gig the less used one and really enjoy it and go on a run of playing that one for a while.
17.
And it's a fiver, too! Double GAS!
My sentiments exactly!
18. Just the two. I've sold off all the guitars and basses I don't use. Would like to try an EUB and get another high quality 5 though.
19. http://greatbritishbasslounge.com/first-sandberg-forty-eight-bass-rocks-up-in-the-uk/ GAS.
20.
Why not? But, in all seriousness... Playing anything modern pop, soul, r&b. Works well, especially without a keys player.
Good question, why not? Depends on the situation I suppose, but playing in functions bands with different singers it makes things easier. Songs like Superstition are much easier to sing in Eb too, rather than stepping it up to E; and I'd rather just play a 5 than have to detune. Also, having big hands it's a better for for me. My first bass was a 5, but my main gigging basses were 4 strings and it worked having only played original music, it was only when playing covers that I needed the 5. Having made the switch I wouldn't be without a decent fover now.
21. I loved my Fenders. Fender are great for having these basic designs that have stood the test of time and still work perfectly for most of us. Just, Sandberg, Lakland, Maruszczyk and a host of others have taken that design and made a few tweaks that make them more awesome, versatile and playable. There is something cool about a passive P bass though, plug in and play and get that fantastic usable sound.
22. Just sold Painy my EHX Micro Q-Tron pedal. Great comms, super prompt payment, top buyer. Deal with confidence here.
23. Seven Nation Army. I don't even like the song, but do quite enjoy playing it. Punters love it, plus it is dead easy to play.
