1.
True of The Beatles???
If that's a reference to Ringo, without wanting to open this can of worms, he was quite simply the perfect man and drummer for the job.
2.
I've had this problem for a number of years living in Portsmouth, only recently have I been in a position to venture further afield, and even now it's limited to how far and when I can get out the area. Down here the music is VERY same-y, that's not to say the bands aren't good, it's that the market is oversaturated by the same type of band and gigs all become much of a muchness. We have 4 distinct genres down here; British Rock, think The Who, Jam, Weller. Blues Rock, Metal (I'm gonna use a BIG brush here as there are too many bands that all sound the same but define themselves as different sub-genres), and finally Punk. This is outside of the general cover bands that do a bit of this, and a bit of that. Most bands die a death as they get a head of steam up playing 4-5 gigs in as many months then decided to work on new material away from gigging, then die from a lack of interest and ability to sustain the non-gigging times. I'm dying to go to a gig and hear some different stuff, it won't happen though.
That's a shame. I'm on the Isle of Wight, which is pretty good. Having two major festivals has helped, but we have a great scene with some great venues and brilliant bands. You should catch the fastcat and head over!
3. And that's the reason I don't gear share my rig.
4. I used to use whichever I felt like as I was stepping out the door. Not so much of an issue now I only have one main bass. I'd go through phases though of preferring one to the other, then gig the less used one and really enjoy it and go on a run of playing that one for a while.
5.
And it's a fiver, too! Double GAS!
My sentiments exactly!
6. Just the two. I've sold off all the guitars and basses I don't use. Would like to try an EUB and get another high quality 5 though.
7. http://greatbritishbasslounge.com/first-sandberg-forty-eight-bass-rocks-up-in-the-uk/ GAS.
8.
Why not? But, in all seriousness... Playing anything modern pop, soul, r&b. Works well, especially without a keys player.
Good question, why not? Depends on the situation I suppose, but playing in functions bands with different singers it makes things easier. Songs like Superstition are much easier to sing in Eb too, rather than stepping it up to E; and I'd rather just play a 5 than have to detune. Also, having big hands it's a better for for me. My first bass was a 5, but my main gigging basses were 4 strings and it worked having only played original music, it was only when playing covers that I needed the 5. Having made the switch I wouldn't be without a decent fover now.
9. I loved my Fenders. Fender are great for having these basic designs that have stood the test of time and still work perfectly for most of us. Just, Sandberg, Lakland, Maruszczyk and a host of others have taken that design and made a few tweaks that make them more awesome, versatile and playable. There is something cool about a passive P bass though, plug in and play and get that fantastic usable sound.
10. Just sold Painy my EHX Micro Q-Tron pedal. Great comms, super prompt payment, top buyer. Deal with confidence here.
11. Wow.
12. Seven Nation Army. I don't even like the song, but do quite enjoy playing it. Punters love it, plus it is dead easy to play.
13. £25?!
14. I asked this question to the team at Fusion, I ended up paying the extra for the Urban. Have had it about a month and have been meaning to start a thread to rave about it, as this is without doubt one of the best gigbags available. Really, it is great. I'll get it done and get some decent photos up. Top quality products and customer service. I bought this to replace a Protec Contego, if the Contego is very good (which it is) then the Fusion is amazing. It manages to be compact but will lots of usable storage, great quality materials and zips, rain/antitheft cover included and the removable 'collar' is a top idea. Plus, very good protection yet nice and light. Anyway, here is the response from Fusion: 'I have been in the warehouse to compare the bags myself, and there are a lot of advantages to the Urban Bass Guitar bag. It is a more generic shape and will accommodate various sizes of guitar. Although the padding is 20mm compared to the 30mm of the F1, the Urban comes with a removable 20mm high-density foam collar, allowing you to mould it round the instrument thereby giving it 40mm of protection and maximum stability, although the guitar will still be very well protected without it. There is a removable headstock block, which can be positioned wherever it's needed. The base of the Urban bag is rubber, the backpack straps tuck away inside specially designed pockets and the overall material is of a higher quality. The Urban bags also come with a raincover and are lighter in weight.'
15. Mega :-)
16.
Yes, given the price of the BDI-21 and the fact it has a DI out, it's a no-brainer to keep one in your gigbag as back up regardless of what pedal/pre/amp combination you use.
That's why I bought mine. Also, for gigs with shared (ropey) back line or rehearsal rooms.
17.
I think the point about Alex's cabs is that they are not just an xxx (put your config here). Is £299 good for a 210? That's the comparison you should be making.
Why? It's a 1x10, isn't it?
18. This does look interesting!
19. I doubt they're sh*te!! But, I'd be interested to know too as I'd like a backup 5. I kind of like the weird looks, but am thinking there might be better options for me for the money.
20. No info, but, fantastic looking Corvette that is.
21. Oh wow. Wish I had the cash for this one.
22. Markbass love a good acronym, don't they. I preferred the look of the old one too.
23. Great looking cabs. Also, lovely Sandberg. I'm guessing this is a rehearsal room, with the whiteboard and beaten up sofa?!
24. I've been thinking about adding Ultralites to my old style VM5. It's not too heavy, but lighter is always better and this is about the only thing on the bass that could be improved. I thought about getting new style Sandberg tuners, but it'd leave visible holes I think, but I suppose the Hipshots do as well?
25. Beauty. Mine has matching headstock and blocks too ☺
