1.
Played a gig the other week, finished at midnight and then they had a DJ for the last 2 hours of the event and, I tell you, the noise levels actually shocked me. My head was swimming it was so loud! No-one was dancing, everyone was as far away from the dance floor as possible! It was so unpleasant I actually felt close to tears. Truckstop
Unfortunately, this is pretty standard in the pub/clubs my functions band plays. I have foam ear plugs I put in once we have finished our set now - distorted hearing and dizziness whilst trying to pack down is not nice. It's actually shocking that the the noise levels were more comfortable for you being stood a metre from the drummer for 2 hours than the house PA at normal operating level.
2.
Any 'professional' is someone who earns a living from a particular profession or trade - in this case music - and has acquired the skills or in some cases qualifications/ standards necessary to do so. Personally, in this context, I associate it with someone who has made a career out of music - rather than someone who earns a bit of extra income from it as a paying hobby. I think the term professional inherently implies a certain level of skill and ability. Generally speaking, you'd need to be a musician of a certain standard in order to make a career out of it. Or be exceptionally lucky. Thankful the same doesn't typically apply to other professions, such as brain surgery.
Very well put.
3. I had a THD Hotplate and hated it. A clean boost is probably your best option, and cheap enough to buy a pedal secondhand and not lose much at all if it doesn't do what you're after.
4.
I thought I really wanted a sunburst or LPB 66 P, very lightly relic'd and only tarnished chrome-wear. But I've just seen this on Mark's website. I'll let it speak for itself. http://classicandcoolguitars.co.uk/basses/limelight00142shellpink.htm
That's awesome. My Jap Fender P is shell pink/rosewood/tort and I get random punters remarking how cool it looks most gigs!
5. I have two TKS 112. They're worth a go if you're anywhere near Reading and Bass Gear? I had a 2x12 before and a 4x10 before that, neither of which were too heavy, but the portability of the two 1x12s is wonderful in comparison. Especially if the load in includes stairs or when get home from a gig, knackered, at 1 am.
6. I'm really tempted by one of these! They all look superb.
7.
I went for the brown 7w pattern vinyl, with the beige/brown cloth. I like to keep things understated
Ooooh, that's gonna be pretty.
8.
New, 'old' P bass, a '55, with Koylon tweed;
Wow, that's lovely.
9. Got my covers today, will get some pics sorted. They are really nice! Well padded and nice snug fit. Hugely relieved that I kept the cabs in as new condition loading them in and out uncovered!I ordered two speaker cables off Tommy too - nice short ones so they don't drape across the floor when connected. They cable is really chunky and they look to be top quality too.
10. Maybe he needs to swap the tubes for ones that become saturated easier, or get an OD pedal to push the front end - Ibanez Tubescreamer or Boss SD1 are pretty cheap. Or accept that he needs a smaller amp for pub gigs! Also, if the on stage sound was deafening out front it would have been horrenous and most probably way too loud for the venue!
11.
Are the pickguard screws & jack socket nut/washer - gold or rusty?
Rusty. It's a relic. Tarnished chrome too.
12. They both look nice. I'll pop them both down on my Christmas list, I reckon. Don't really see those Shaun Hurley Precisions for sale often.
13. Thay pickguard really finishes it off nicely. Looks mega.
14. Name aside, these look pretty cool.
15. Looks great. I should get my covers Tuesday :-) what are they like? They look like the Berg ones from the pics.
16. Tricky one and a rubbish position to be in. £63 seems a random amount? How did he calculate that? I guess you have no proof of ownership to any of it? Are there any receipts?
17. Cool. I love my pink precision. And that's not a euphemism!!
18. Always like the look of these. Nice one.
19.
Just seems a strange place for such anger is all. EB don't have a custom shop, they don't build a bass with the specific set of specs the OP wanted, and the poor guy who read the return email from the OP had to take flak for not doing something that they don't advertise they do. I emailed Lakland once politely asking if they were considering a Skyline version of the Decade Shortscale. When they replied 30mins later saying they weren't, I didn't reply with my 'disgust'. They don't advertise it, why be angry that they won't accommodate it Si
I'm with you. EB 's email back was informative and polite. They don't offer the service you're after. No need for petulance, you asked, they politely said no.
20. Church hall gig for private function. High ceilings, hollow wooden stage and zero soft furnishings and needing to daisy chain 3 extension leads as the only power supply is 20 metres from the stage... Weddings aside, I'll take a pub gig over a private function any day.
21. Without going into details, my experiences of them are bad too. There are far better guitar shops in the south, as far as I'm concerned.
22. I have and would again leave bands for dodgy drummers. Its ok at open jam sessions, where you can try things out and have a laugh but takes the fun out of gigging knowing there could be a monumental drumming cock up around the corner. I was in a band where the singer was on edge and not confident because the drummer either momentarily forgot how to play drums completely, or would lose time, speed up, slow down, add a stupid fill and it was a bit embarrassing to be honest. Having to stop mid song because the drummer has lost time and cant get back on the beat is not a nice experience!
