1.
That is what is good about music, something can get to one person and not another, dare I say I dont dig Jaco for example, I have tried but nothing is doing
Yeah, good point. Super talented but I can't listen to this sort of stuff for too long now. 10 years ago, I loved it. Dale Marks is pretty decent though, and that Strat has some crazy scalloping!
2. Just sold Lozz my Markbass cab. Pleasure to have done business with and to spend a few minutes chatting with too. Really top bloke.
3. I've not actually played a Lakland, they look great though. In response to the whole for/against Fender debate (again), us Fender players dislike it when others make such broad generalisations and state opinion as fact. It's someone saying yet again that 'X is better than any US Fender ever made!!' That is annoying. It's opinion, not fact. Lots of people say that Fender QC isn't the best, but they must make quite a few more instruments than the next biggest manufacturer. So if the odd one slips through the net, it would be ridiculous to judge the brand on that one poor example. Offering more options and variations does not equate to better either, I want a P bass, not active EQ or Musicman or tapped coil pickups. That might make something better for you, but not me.
4. I sold Mark King a video camera once and Tony Butler was a tutor of mine for 2 years of college. Both very cool dudes.
5.
Yeah I'm getting decisive here. TH500 and the TKS S2126 with that nice grill cloth finish. Should be plenty power and I can lug the Bassman about when I want. Want to but a Bassman ;-)
If it helps, I've just ordered and paid for a couple of TKS cabs and the process couldn't have been easier. The owner was a true gent and very helpful too - as were the known TKS users of BC.
6.
Here's the amp with the classic rig:
Nice!!
7. Looks great!! Just off to check Limelight website...
8. That was great. To be honest, they all sounded mega. Surprisingly, I liked the tone of the '77 least, not to say I didn't like, it has some serious attitude! Thanks for sharing!
9.
Yup, correct pad used. All I can say is that the 2 Markbass cabs I'm now using have been a revelation live, compared to my B/F S12V.
They are great cabs. I had one then moved it on. I borrowed one for a gig Saturday and angled it up with the little Markbass tilt-back-device-thing and it was easily cutting through two guitars and drums. They have a serious amount of clean low mids and bottom for little cabs too!
10. I REALLY want another VM Jazz. I've had 2 and moved them on when cash was needed. The last one I bought from a mate, who had done a few modifications. It had a babicz bridge and a tort pickguard - which I belive was bought as very old stock, a Fender original for Japanese Jazz basses. It was a great fit for the squier. It has since been sold again and I'm trying to find out who has it so I can buy it back!!
11. Welcome! Your English is probably as good or better than many people born and raised here - you managed to answer all my stupid questions anyway! Matt
12.
11 in total - all Precisions.
Good stuff! 2 Precisions for me.
13. Haven't we been here before?
14. Mega. Love these. That looks great.
15. Bump. No love for this? As new, willing to listen to offers.
16. Thanks, it does indeed shift a ton of air. I'm guessing a bit with pricing here, as I've never seen another come up for sale second hand. Now asking £500.
17. Edit; can't alter price as above, £500 ono. I've decided to sell my Markbass 2x12. I bought this new 2 years ago as my band at the time were starting to play larger venues - that is no longer the case and i don't have the need for such a powerful cab anymore. I now play predominantly in a functions band and just don't need this much cab, also, have recently downsized cars - and whilst this does fit in the back of a 3 door Ford KA, it is a bit awkward getting it in/out with a bad back and shoulder! The cab is as new, i am quite obsessive about taking extreme care of my things (!!) therefore, there isn't a single scuff, rip or knock in the tolex. The cab comes with a Roqsolid cover which it has always been on when not in use. It really is mint condition. Spec wise, it is 4 ohm, rated at 800 watts. I have always used it with a LM3, though, did use an old Bassman in the studio once and both sounded great. Tons of low end, yet, very clean. I wouldn't say classic Markbass exactly, it does the hifi thing, but is a bit warmer and more natural sounding than other MB cabs i have played/owned. The tweeter is a 1.25" compression driver too, i have it pretty much off, but it is far nicer than the piezo unit some MB cabs have and fully controllable via the L pad. It has rubber feet side and bottom for horizontal/vertical use and two very sturdy handles. On my scales it weighs in at 27.5KG. Here is the Markbass webpage for full spec; http://www.markbass....tail.php?id=142 I would MUCH prefer not to ship this, as i am on the Isle of Wight and it is a bit of a pain, so if anyone fancies a day trip or can collect from Southampton, Portsmouth or Lymington, that would be ideal. Trade wise, i'm only really interested in high end 1x12 - Bergs or Vanderkley, as this is what the cash will go towards when sold anyway. 18.
I find it useful when I want to play behind the beat (as I have a tendency to push the tempo of songs otherwise). Not sure why it works, but it does for me.
Same here! I like using my thumb for playing slightly behind the beat too. Really grooves.
19. Tort with cover. No contest.
20. Those chromes are great.
21.
(go on, do this) a quick search on his name in Google images just seems to show hundreds of the same photo...the same smug look on his face, a la; I'm-not-looking-at-my-bass-and-you-know-I-think-I-just-cracked-out-a-very-smelly-fart-as-well. Right place, right time I suppose.
I did. You're right! He does look very happy with himself. On a related note, there is apparently a footballer with the same name whose beard matches his teams blue and white striped kit!
22. I had to Google Clayton, not a huge fan of the band, but that Jazz looks quite special.
23.
Would you rather have the benchmark of p basses, or something that's unique to you?
That's the question I guess isn't it? I bought the standard because it was the best P I tried. Just the way it is I found it almost perfect. I've just added flats and a bridge cover. But, if you're not going to sell kit, having the Special that you have added your own touch to would be pretty cool.
