1.
I feel the same. The ones I've played all felt very cheap and always disappointed, weight wise, tonally and aestheically. I've played sub £300 Epiphone basses that are built to a higher standard and have a better tone and that's saying something. They are a big company so will always have the fanboys who love them but I just don't get it. Saying all that, I like Fender. I imagine the guys who love Stingrays etc will think I'm a mug for liking Fender. Different strokes and all that jazz :-)
A mate of mine loves Rickenbackers and has a 4001 as well as 12 and 6 strings guitars. I just don't get it. They really do feel cheap and plastic to me as well as being expensive and twangy sounding. But, like you, I love Fenders, which many would also say I'm a mug for! Choice is a wonderful thing. 1st world problems and all that...
2. I'm interested in the BG250-208 too. I tried one at a big store when buying a bass recently and was really impressed. It was very loud and clear for such a tiny box. Ideal for practices and backup for gigs
3. Had one in an old band. Hate the things, if used in the manner our old drummer used them, the audiemce and your fellow band members wont appreciate not being able to breathe, let alone open their mouths to sing!
4. I don't know how TC input gain works, but with Markbass you set it as high as possible without overloading the input stage. So, turn gain up until it clips when you play hard, then back it off. With my MB amp I was setting it at 12 o'clock just as a default, recently I realised I could set gain to 1 o'clock without clipping. The difference in volume is huge! I now set the master at 10 o'clock instead of 12 o'clock. Maybe worth a try pushing the gain a little?
5.
Trouble with cash converters stuff is that anything that looks like a bargain is likely to be nicked...
Yeah, you're right I think. When I was at uni in Plymouth we would go there regularly and there was always something cool, but you see some of the people bringing the gear in for a quick sale and it's blatantly not theirs to sell!
6.
Yeah they were a great idea! They seem to discontinue everything exciting because of how good the standard or traveller series cabs are. I want them to bring back the Classic series sealed cabs with the tolex and black grille cloth... I need a 2x10 to match my 4x10
Yeah, I guess so. I had a traveller 102p and to be fair, it was awesome. I'd love another one. I've not played a Classic, but they do look great.
7.
I've got an MBcl115 and cl210. great cabs but the tweeter/horns are rubbish so I keep them turned right down. At high volume they( theweeters) just sound awful. But other than that I love the cabs. Normal rig is ampeg PF500 and the club 1x15. It goes thru the PA for more oomph. No plans to try any other cabs any time soon
I have the Club 212, shame they discontinued the Club series.
8. Really, just do whatever you want. Obviously it is beneficial to be able to utilise a variety of techniques and styles. But it's your playing. Don't get pigeonholed as a pick player or whatever and do what you enjoy and what feels right. For what it's worth, I played guitar for years before bass, so was playing only with a pick when I started. I wanted to learn finger style because I liked the tone. Now, I can appreciate both techniques in different circumstances. But, don't feel you have to play a certain way because it is proper.
9. They're great cabs. In all regards, sound, build quality, versatility.
10. Fender Roadworns are great basses. Be a shame to write them off because someone didn't like the paint job.
11. Cool. I had the red and rosewood variant for a while. I'd love another 2EQ at some point. That's a bargain too, I got more by part exchanging mine with a major retailer that you paid for this!
12.
Pal of mine playing fiddle in my band a few years ago: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hL81A7f2MWo ...and what he's up to these days: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hzMLmS9cNxg It couldn't have happened to a nicer lad.
AWESOME!
13.
How many times have we heard this on BC? *sigh*
Many. But does that make it necessary to question me for suggesting this is the case here? As someone who has sold dozens of guitars and basses, the most recent being a super rare PRS which cost more than my car, that I spent a long time in finding and is worth a good deal sentimentally as well as in a monetary sense, you can take my word for it. *sigh*
14. Try a few. I played LOADS of precision basses and bought the best. Which was a 2012 US Standard. It's an incredible instrument. I'll never sell it. Also, I have since bought a really nice 1996 Japanese P. Which is great, plays and sounds immense and I gig it more than the US, but build quality isn't the same and I spent a bit upgrading components to make it better.
15. That's cool. I want to rack my LMIII and hadn't considered these. Will have to check it out.
16.
sorry to all the kiss fans for being harsh but watching his left hand looks like he only picked up the bass for the first time 70 minutes ago rather than been playing since the 70s - whilst not expecting berlin or pattitucci levels of technique is it not reasonable to expect that after 40 plus years of playing his left hand would demonstrate at least some finesse regardless of the complexity of the lines he is playing?
Not if that's the way he has played for 40 years. Without meaning state the obvious, perfect technique doesn't develop if you are reinforcing bad habits constantly. But hey, Gene has done alright for himself!
17. Im loving it. Its a really, really great compressor. It is very smooth and warm. Much like the LMIII, transparent, in a good way. At that price I'd say give it a go. Send it back maybe if it's not for you?
18. It's your choice, ultimately. I have christian friends and band members who wouldn't dream of giving up their instruments (they do also play in their church band). I dont get it personally, why not then say it is time to give up TV or sport any other thing people profess to be false idols. But that just an opinion and you should do whatever makes you happy.
19. Thats an amzing list of gear. Have you tried compressors and EQs too? Ive not used EBS, but I thought they were the epitome of clarity amd punch?
20. What an opportunity!! I've bought two Precisions recently, so in the words of Duncan Banatyne, 'im out'. This is the one bass I want above all others though! My wife would kill me for thinking about it.
21.
Put them both up for sale, and see which one sells first
Good idea. Someone must be in the market for one of the two.
