1. I thought all US Standards did? My 2012 P does but 2010 Special didn't and shouldn't have done.
2. I just did the PAT course through work, so didn't have to pay! Good times. Going to start testing my own gear as we are more regularly getting asked by venues too. Laughable when you see the state of some of their extension leads/sockets!
3.
I was wondering why strings direct haven't had them for a while. That would be a bummer
They still have this gauge available as a 5 set. Wonder why they changed the 4 string gauge though.
4. I measured the strings on my 2012 US P. Fender's site states that the E is a 110, but mine is exactly 105. I like 45-105s, they feel just right to me. Incidentally, has Fender stopped producing 45-105 flats? I can't find them anywhere.
5.
Here's my all-British hand-built set up, mwahahaha: Ashdown CTM100 2x Barefaced Super Compacts Status Retroactive J ACG Graft Recurve
Great stuff.
6. I guess they aren't anywhere near playable, therefore can't be sold as usable instruments. Would be good if they actually said what was wrong with it. Maybe it's an amalgamation of factory seconds that would otherwise have been binned.
7. This is probably up there with the best of them from under £300. I've had 2, sold them both to fund new purchases and will look to get another again before too long I expect! I preferred the sound of my VM Jazz to that of my American Special.
8.
'PLODDING' is such a f***ing ugly word. One thing I've learned over the four years I've been in Kit Richardson's band is that less really is SO MUCH MORE. I used to try to be 'clever' and the thing is, the songs need the frequencies, the essence of bass, the richness and rhythm. Not a load of auld ballocks from a bassist who thinks he will get respect or self-worth from slinging in twiddly bellend sh*t every few bars. You need to decide if you are a bassist or a musician. You have to train your mind to make decisions that go against your need for adoration and learn to enjoy it. The band, the singer and the songwriter are the priorities, NOT the individual backing musicians. The OP needs to flip reverse it.
This. If more bassists/guitarists/drummers had this outlook music would be better for it. There are quite a few local bands whereby the music is kind of ruined for me by one member hugely overplaying. I play with a drummer that does it and it pisses me off every gig!
9. None of us NEED a new bass, even though I tell the wife I do, and find many arguments as to why it is absolutely necessary that I buy this new bass - and that for this song or that band, my existing bass simply won't work... But, if you're coming into some money, it's a very nice way to treat yourself!
10. Always curious and never had the chance to try one of these, the only person Iocally I know of that has one (probably many!) is the man himself! They look pretty mean though.
11.
Also if Markbass is heavy whats the point?
Care to elaborate on that point? Has he actually weighed the cab? I would be interested in knowing the exact weight. What retailer was it from, how much did it cost? Markbass do make a cheaper line in Indonesia, but as far as I know, the only cabs on offer are a 1x15 and a 4x10, so that is odd. I can't see a 2x10 on their website either.
12. Awesome. Well done grandparents!
13.
It would seem that there are many players who have been around the bass block and finally found peace in the simplicity of a P-bass.
Yep, add my name to that list!
14. I had one of these. Better than a few cheaper Epi LPs I've had. Just, a very very heavy guitar.
15.
I've never found a P limiting. I actually think they're more versatile than most actives I've owned, because almost every sound is useable. Of course if you want a Jaco-esque burp it's not really the bass for that but I've never been a fan of the back-pickup burp anyway.
Agreed. I loved my Stingray, but musically it didn't work for me. There isn't a sound from the P that I couldn't use.
16. Music related stuff, I was fortunate enough to receive two fender leads, the tweed custom shop marked ones. They're really well built, very happy with them. Also got one of those Markbass Mark Stand things, used it last night and was really impressed. Great for a tightly packed pub gig!
17. I think Locked Out Of Heaven is in D Minor, is it not?! It has some very high parts and is not an easy song to sing in its original key. I cover it in two bands, original key with female singer and down a half step with male fronted band.
18. Precision. Having recently traded my 'Ray in for one. The Stingray was really nice to play and well built. But so is the P - and I much prefer the sound of it.
19.
It will, just, fit on the front seat of a BMW 3 Series Coupe - I agreed to deliver one once and managed to squeeze it in
Bloody good effort! Got mine in the boot of a MK1 Focus seats up - and now in the back of a new KA with the seats down.
20. I use the front ported version of that Markbass. The club600f32. Have you considered one of these? Not sure how readily available they are, as they have just been discontinued. I love it, it's clean and clear with my LMIII, handles EQ well and is very transparent with a good tweeter. Not to mention, it is beautifully built, absolutely perfect fit and finish. Edit: the one Molan, above, is referring to is this one. It is pretty chunky due to the ports, 26kg on my scales too. And is a bit awkward getting through a tight doorway. The reassessed handles on either end are very good though. All in all, I can live with it being a bit chunkier than certain other cabs as in every other way it is perfect for what I want. There are pics towards the end of the 'show us your rig' and 'Markbass porn' threads, if you want to see it with my amp and P bass in context.
21. I LOVED my 2EQ. Felt and played awesome... But, I sold it recently to fund an US Standard P and am completely happy with my decision. I thought I'd regret it a little, but the P is just perfect for what I want. I don't think I'd buy another Ray either, maybe if I was in doing something differently musically, but for me, the Precision just does it better.
22. Because, how many people can connect with musicians doing what they do well? Week after week? I would probably love it, as would a lot of musicians. But my nan wouldn't tune in to watch a drummer or bassist or what have you playing solo. Thinking about it, it would probably be really self indulgent too. Lots of horrendous shredding that whilst technically impressive is actually boring as f*ck to listen too. I'd much rather X Factor just had a live band. If Strictly can do it, why not? Or, the show just stopped, as in it's current form it has well and truly run it's course...
23. Love those Musicmasters. Recorded with one once and it was brilliant. Really raw and felt awesome. Ohhhh, has GAS just struck, again?! Damn it.
24. That looks smart. Have you moved the 1x12s on?
25.
My 2011 US Standard Precision. It just "works" if you know what I mean. The sound is exactly what I want, and it`s so easy to play it almost feels as if I`m playing fresh air. Not too heavy either, and in my fave colour scheme, white/tort/rosewood.
I just got my first US Standard P and know exactly what you mean. It just fits. The sound it makes is the one I want from a bass guitar.
