A Pino Custom Shop Precision. Which won't happen anytime soon, so I'll lower the bar a touch and aim for a US Standard Precision.

I'm trying to persuade the other half to let me buy a P! You lucky man!

Hell no should you be paying. That's unbelievably tight.
My new rig arrived at 9 a.m. This morning, just awesome service from Bass Direct as usual. Only problem is i'm stuck at work so can't go play. Rig looks ace though,i can't believe how small & light the Shuttle is,build quality looks very good too. Come on home time.
I've not played one of the Genz 2x12 but they do look beautiful!

What are these strings on my 69 Fender Precision?
Looks like an E, A, D and G to me :-p
I laughed, more than is reasonably expected! -
This is true. I'm one of them. Because I don't 'do' bass solos... why? As I've said on this forum about a billion times, I really don't think electric bass guitar lends itself to being a solo instrument. But then I don't much like solos on any instrument. A guitar solo? Yes OK, but only if it's very simple and doesn't last much more than eight bars. I suppose it's because as a tender young lad I was brought up on 'progressive rock' and have heard enough solos of every type (particularly drum solos) to last the rest of my life, thanks. I find them boring. To me it's the ultimate in self-obsessed Narcissism. In my opinion live solos are pretty much just tolerated at best and are received by long-suffering audiences with patient half-hearted applause - if you're lucky. Stop it at once!
Well said!

Looks great. This was nearly going to be mine, until my trade offer got nicked! How does it compare to the MIA?
I think what gets peoples goat is the BF fans always sign off with, "blew away my MarkBass" or "Brand X are not comparable" when they clearly are, If you like the tone thats cool and the weight saving is great but why end the response with the non factual bits almost everytime.
Yes!
Markbasses cabs aren't nearly an equivalent but are cheaper, while many are still more expensive and either won't go nearly as loud or be as light.
Based on what? I take it you have owned, extensively gigged and lived with at LEAST one MB cab to make such a sweeping generalisation?! I think what Barefaced are doing is great, I look forward to reading what Alex has to say on cab related matters, but inevitably, in a Barefaced thread opinion will be stated as fact. Just because technically something might be 'better' on paper doesn't mean it will be to all of the people all of time. I should add, if it wasn't obvious, I have owned 3 MB cabs and hopefully in the not too distant future will be able to look into getting a Barefaced.

Band leader: I want a songlist of 200 songs...
M@23 replied to solo4652's topic in General Discussion
Was he being serious, was that a request, or just thinking/wishing out loud?! Perhaps he was trying to assert his dedication and trying to gauge a reaction from the rest of you? I joined a function band a couple of months ago and had to learn the setlist - they were already playing together so I had to catch up fast. The setlist is about 50 songs, maybe a couple more, and it was hard work. Some pop songs, Jessie J's Domino, Pricetag, Diamonds by Rihanna, Get Lucky by Daft Punk and the like took minutes to learn as it is pretty much the same chord progressions throughout - but others I had to put a lot of time into. Plus, I don know what your band leader wants, but my covers band changed keys of some songs, extended choruses, dropped verses, mashed songs together etc, which made learning some songs very difficult to learn in my own time without my band mates guidance. I found it all quite stressful at times, 200 songs is a huge ask, especially if it is a case of learning them ASAP. I don't think I could handle it! Best of luck! -
Is this him?
Haha. No, that's not him. That guy looks the real deal though.
Who cares about bass cabs when you have a Porsche?! Just make someone else take the cab.
One of the drummers I play with can fit his full kit in a 911!
-
I fitted a Babicz to a Squier VM jazz. Bolted straight on, into the original holes too. It was good, well built, nice and weighty.
-
I don't think the rest of them will be stigmatised by association but I'm sure everyone else involved with the band just want to bury this and move on. Unfortunately the band's name has been tarnished, even if they wanted to carry on it would be difficult after this. Also, probably for legal reasons of some sort they may not be able to carry on without this bloke using the name Lostprophets, even if they wanted.
Made the big mistake of using generic plugs for a couple of years only to develop tinnitus and hearing loss. A consultant audiologist laughed at the idea of generics, as no two ear canals are the same. I then went down the the custom route and ACS plugs have been a lifesaver for me. They cost 300 euro a pop but are a must have IMO and cheap as chips for the protection they offer, to what remains of my hearing. Everyone to their own, but for me it's got to be the best and that's ACS
This. If the plug doesn't fit your ear canal then it isn't doing its job fully. Foam earplugs are the best off the shelf option for this reason, though they're not ideal for music. Specsavers do custom fit jobs, for the price of a couple of effects pedals. It is a worthy investment.

I use a boss sd-1. As my amp tone is super clean I have this set just to add a bit of warmth and very light overdrive. It sounds thin if you wind the gain up, but using it sparingly it works great in the mix.
-
I started playing jazz basses, moving over from guitar it felt natural and comfortable but I used to get hand cramps on longer gigs and rehearsals. I then bought a Stingray and haven't looked back. Now find chunkier profiles much more comfortable.

Here's my LMIII with club600F32 2x12 cab. For those that don't know, it's a front ported 800 watt 4ohm cab. So i get the full 500 watts of the amp. I love this rig, used to use a 102p, which i had to sell to fund this cab, but loved the little 2x10 and am going to buy another when funds permit. This is an ideal setup for the bands i'm in now though. Loud, clear and versatile.

I've not had to return anything but have spent lots with them over the years and its always been a pleasure. Even my bass cab came from them, which was over 30kg packaged, it was packaged very well and delivery was prompt. Not only that, they keep you informed every step of the way. They've always been polite an helpful with my queries too.

The originals band playing pubs experiment
M@23 replied to Low End Bee's topic in General Discussion
My definition? Band has to supply the PA. No stage. Free on the door. Probably only does music Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
Yeah, this hits the nail on the head for me. -
The originals band playing pubs experiment
M@23 replied to Low End Bee's topic in General Discussion
pubs around Stoke put originals bands on all the time!
Same on the Isle of Wight, we play a couple of pubs regularly at £200 a go. It's fairly standard here for originals bands to play the pub scene. -
Warwick Rockbass Corvette Basic. Anyone got one?
M@23 replied to Basschatfield's topic in Bass Guitars
I got a 2009 German made active bubinga Warwick Corvette for that much. Warwicks hold their value so poorly that buying a new one is a bad idea. Hang onto your brass and wait for a "proper" Warwick to come up second hand that takes your fancy.
Same story here, so I'd agree! -
Funny, I borrowed an '82 P as I've got a hankering for one and my bandmates much preferred my normal 'Ray tone!

Do you (can you) count 1, 2, 3, 4 per bar while playing?
M@23 replied to tedmanzie's topic in General Discussion
No, I think as others have said you just feel it after a while. Especially if you sing a bit too, you don't really have the choice! Though, if the drummer isn't great (!!) I will count pauses and other little bits. -

Just had to google this. Never heard of them, but see they're made by H&K?! The build quality looks great.
