Mine ended up around the £940 mark. Just think of it in terms of £100 odd more than an Ampeg 810 new...... well, makes me feel better anyway!
& sounds better-well punchier, lower, higher, more clarity. Is easier to move & 1/2 the weight!!! THAT makes me feel HEAPS BETTER!!!!

BUMP!!!!! Reckon I'll go 4 the EPI Jack Cassady. coz it's close to $800 AUS cheaper & sounded & felt great-as did the JAG. But as I have a 'ray 5 & a Precision- a nice semi hollow would be GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :-)
-
I LIKE the blue pearly pick cover!!!! Am gonna get one for my Trans teal 'ray5 ASAP! After finding on US Ebay for less than the 'other brand' ones that cost as much as an SX bass!!!!!!!!!! Just for a piece of plastic!!!! >:-0

I dunno why but this is MY experience of trying out a EB MM SUB 5 & a EB MM Stingray 5 in my local shop. Both theu SAME MARKBASS LMII amp & 4 x 10 cab, same settings on guitars & amp CHALK & CHEESE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The SUB was a nice bass. didn't make me think WOW or anything, but was a nice solid bass. The 'RAY was ....WOW!!!!! Blew me away- brite, powerful, thick, full. Was one of the only basses in MY 30+ yrs of playing that made me think WOW what a GREAT bass- straight away!!! I was informed B4 hand that there were same pup, bridge etc in both, But the difference was STAGGERING!!!!!!!!!! Probly the active elecs. have alot to do with it, possibly the Ash/ poplar of the SUB- I dunno really. BUT It was THAT different!! & I WANTED the SUB to sound as good-coz I didn't have the $$$$ for the 'Ray! But after that........... I HAD 2 have the 'ray!

I've heard GREAT things about the Orange Valve bass amp AD200!!!!! I've only played one in a Store & it sounded Very good! Tho also VERY expensive here in Aus. 200w-all valve will be VERY LOUD-probly as loud as a 600-8--w solid state amp! At least!
-
Yep- I used to own one. GREAT CAB!!!! HUGE Bottom end, adjustable HF horn. Sounds great! Is a 4 ohm cab tho-designed to be used on it's own, hence the BIG bottom end & no need for a 15" under it for lows!!!!!. so as it's 4 ohms U won't wanna be using another cab with it unless it's 4 ohm also & yr amp can do 2 ohms!!!!!!!!! Built like a TANK- a 3 &1/2 foot high tank!!!! Heavy-110lbs, but not too hard to move-has wheels & a 'towel rack' handle to tilt & roll. Great cab.

I used to own a SVT3PRO & now own a modern V4BH-100w all valve. I think -thru an efficient cab/s the V4 can be plenty loud- IMHO about as loud as the 3pro- but with that volume-U get some (IMHO lovely tube break up/overdrive)- where-as the 3pro, with it's solid state power section, you'll get a clean tone up to the (approx.)same volume. As said above- VERY different beasts... I think the 2PRO is more like the V4 as it's got the tube power amp as well as pre. The 3PRO has the nice warm AMPEG tone, but is NOTHING like all valve tone IME!!!! I LIKED the 3PRO- darn good amp, but I needed to get back 2 me roots- which was all valve-pre & power amps. The V4 will struggle for volume unless U R using plenty of speaker volume &/or an efficient spkr cab. Thru my Bergantino NV610 it's PLENTY loud. Thru a single 12" (Aguilar GS112) it doesn't go THAT loud. IMHO- U need at least a good 4x10", or a 15" & a 2x10/4x10 etc.. to get the best outta the V4. But it sure is a LOVELY sound when it's running-the V4B!!!!

I got a V4BH & IT has NO fan in it! It gets HOT but not overly so for a Valve amp. With my Fender 300PRO & it's 6 x 6550C valves even that didn't have a fan installed-so I installed an old computer fan to blow the hot air out!! Works well too! Informative thread-thanx OX et al!!!!! But-yes the V4 does get HOT & it shouldn't be a worry- just 4 x 6L6 valves & plenty of air space around 'em. Keep yr ohms switch to 4 ohms with the 2 cabs & switch it to 8 ohms if U just use ONE CAB! All should be valvey sweet!!!! ;o)
-
Yep- valve amps just sound better & better the more juice is pumped into 'em. But I agree with above posts- Neither is "better" they're just different animals! Different strokes......... I think we're lucky to have the choice!!! I remember a few yrs ago I was the ONLY person around using valves for bass.... everyone thought I was a dinosaur-even tho many were older than me ) Now- A couple of bassists use valves here, but at least U can buy them again!!! They were VERY hard to find for a few dark yrs....so were actual valves!!!! Thank God for Muso's- single handedly-(almost) saving the vacuum tube industry!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

one's I can remember. Few compared to many listed here ....WOW!!!! BTW that's a LOVELY Sabre Fretless!!! CONGRATS!!!!!!!!!! 1974- Sakai EB-O copy -short scale '78(or 79 or sumthin) Ibanez P copy Silver series 1981 Fender Precision(2nd hand-probly a mid 70's model)-which was MY one & only gogging bass for yrs until it was stolen (w/ my amp & cab etc)in Melbourne in '88. '89- Ibanes Roadster P bass '91- Ibanez SR405 5 str.-again while I built up my rig again-BIG thanx to friends who lent me amps-A Fender Silver face Bassman 100-(all tube late '70's I think)-JBL Spkr in a EV cab.-Thanx Robbie!!!!!! 2000- MIA Fender Jazz '03 MIJ Fender Jazz 04- Franken Precision special(PJ)-from all sortsa parts- still got this & is a beauty! 05- Palatino EUB- modded to sound NICE-still got '05 EB MM 'Ray 5- sill got...love it- 06 Squier Precision Standard 5-anniversary edition-seems 2 be just a gem amongst..... has 2 J pups & all the growl U could want! Fender Precision MIJ with Telecaster bass neck- currently upgrading pots/pups/bridge Not as large as many here... but did me fine. After having my WHOLE rig & bass stolen in '88 i didn't play 4 a year. But gradually built up enough stuff to be able to give the aforementioned 'Robbie' his Bassman 100 back. I bougfht the Eminar Valve PA head(180w-EL34's) Lovely round sound- this was my MAIN gigging head for 10+ yrs-along w/ the JBL spkr in the EV TL115 cab. Eventually-again- I bought a MESA/EV 400w spkr to go in the EV cab & gibe Robbie back his JBL(I bought the empty EV cab earlier)-SO NOW I had ALL my own gear!!!! YAY!!!!!!! As I've said B4- NO back up amp was EVER used-never needed it either!(who says tube amps aint reliable??????) later- sold the PA head, tried a few(lots) of S.S. amps & hybrid amps & eventually settled on a Fender Bassman 300PRO-Needed the All tube sound I'd had all me life! Bought a SVT410HLF(when I had a 3 PRO amp) sold that for the Bergantino NV610(best move ever) , saved-with more high paying gigs- bought a Ampeg V4BH-super!!!!!!!!! then a Aguilar GS112 & LMII to use w/ my EUB for smaller gigs- not that the LMII can't go BIG & LOUD-it's the best S.S. amp I've ever had/tried IMHO- SO I'm SET as far as amps & cabs go!!!! Basses too really - just modding my latest P. Sorry to rave on!

Yeah re-HOLE..... if it's in the 'dustcap' small dome in centre of speaker-U can either leave it, replace it- net search for speaker suppliers should carry dustcaps & they can be simply glued on with a small amout on either contact adhesive or even supaglue possibly... Either way simple, cheap fix. Def. doesn't require a new spkr. even a recone is usually cheaper than a new spkr!

+2 on the 2nd hand option. Can get great stuff. Hartke are nice amps(tube & s.s. pre amps)-HA 3500 etc... & are going at silly low prices! Even New!
Feeler: Im thinking of letting my old Koch head go after many years of sterling service. Typical "natural warm" feel for this type of head. Ooozes quality (well, sometimes!) Comes with: small head cover (bit dirty but will clean up) Long solid stand Two rear wheels. Cant post for obvious reasons. Callers welcome to call and try out. ^_^
AAAAAAHHHHH ha a ha ha ha ha ah a.... I nearly Died They had 'em in Aus. for a while. Koch's . Here they were a sunburnt reddish colour, with tubes that went a bluish tinge. Apparently some of the outer covers wore out with frequent use too!
Stu - kind offer, I'm a hop, skip and a jump away from ordering a Bergantino.
U WILL NOT be dissappointed.
-
I've never been impressed with the MB cabs-tho I DO love my LMII. IT sounds great into the Bergantino NV610 AND the Aguilar GS112 & EV 1x15" - IMHO....try another cab! the BBE option is another route.....But I've been astounded by the CLARITY of the NV610-No tweeter-still as clear as a bell. But not 'modern' sounding at all...just clear bass....even dirty, clear bass-if U know wot I mean.

MMMMMMMMMMMMM400w all tube AND matching 4 x 12" cab!!! MEGA mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm!!!!!!!

-

-
Looks like a MusicMan Stingray copy bridge to me! So try getting a REAL Ernie Ball Music Man Stingray bridge to suit & it should all be apples!
