1. In a word: Yes. The violin shaped bass is next to impossible to play resting on your leg without supporting it a lot with your left hand, which you should not be doing! £40 or £50 for a strap is mega expensive. You can get a super dooper ultimate Mono GS1 for £35 (http://www.stringsdirect.co.uk/accessories-c2/straps-c54/mono-betty-guitar-strap-duraweave-ash-grey-long-47-59-p7471) I would say you should get something with a grippy backing, it will help you out a lot. You could get one of these to start you off very cheap, but it won't do you many favours in stopping the headstock from dropping (known as "neck dive"). http://www.stringsdirect.co.uk/accessories-c2/straps-c54/planet-waves-polypropylene-strap-green-p7095 Can't tell for sure from the photo, but it looks like this has suede backing. I would recommend you go for this one for £18. There's an "Ask a question" button you could use to send a message and check whether it's grippy or not. http://www.stringsdirect.co.uk/accessories-c2/straps-c54/levys-dm1-brg-2-5%C3%AE-leather-strap-with-decorative-double-stitching-burgundy-p7448
2. Stuff from the Killers first album can go down well. All These Things That I've Done and Mr Brightside. Also, there's The Strokes, Kasabian (Fire goes down well), Muse (Plug In Baby), Arctic Monkeys, Kaiser Chiefs, Franz Ferdinand, Stereophonics. HTH!
3. Have a chat to Andy Rogers, he's a basschatter and seems like a nice chap. http://www.ajrguitarmods.co.uk/ethos%20&%20contacts.htm
4.
Fantastic, I loved your set mate, the Maiden cover was awesome, and I don't say that lightly! You sounded great, both the bass and the band, hope we sounded o.k. The stage was great wasn't it, we've done a couple of outdoor gigs this year, my first ones ever, and had a real blast! Will def come see you again, my type of music!
Cheers mate! You guys sounded wicked. Loved the Beastie Boys! We're down Romford/Dagenham way fairly often. Have you played The Crown in Hornchurch? We love it there!
5.
Me doing a local festival, complete with hat because it rained most of the day, but dried up an hour before our set which was cool. Until this year ( I'm 45 now!) I'd never done an outdoor show, so spend most of the gig gazing mystically into the far distance trying to spot people I know!!
Sykilz, we were at the same festival, I was in the band after you! I wondered if there were any basschatters about. What an awesome stage that was! I was crapping myself for the first couple of songs. Can honestly say I don't think I've ever looked so cool in my life, nor will I approach this level of cool ever again.
6. Sorry, someone's already claimed first dibs, but if they change their mind you are second in line. Thanks
7. These are cool: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Rub-On-Window-Sticker-Rockband-Bass-Black-/250809099389
8. I've mused about getting a bass player car sticker.... "Bassists Go Deeper" "Bassists Pluck Harder" "Bassists Finger Your G String All Night Long?" "Ace Of Bass" I currently have one of these stickers on the back of my Diesel Ford Focus (which I drive like a granny in to max the MPG), so I could do with a few more. Considering a Darwin Fish....
9. Did have this in the Sell Anything forum, but had no interest and it's a shame to see it go in the bin when someone could get use out of it! I have got a nearly new Antec Skeleton case sitting around doing nothing, about to be sent off to the big land fill in the sky. Think it was built once and never used again. Everything is present and accounted for to the best of my knowledge. Very cool if you're into PC building. Standard ATX and microATX compatability. Full manual can be found here: http://www.antec.com...n_manual_EN.pdf Looks like this: Happy to arrange a courier if you cover the cost, otherwise, collection from Suffolk.
10. Is there somewhere I can listen to more of your tracks without attending the gig? Redwood is great!!!
11.
Hmmmmm, Now what's out there for about £300.
This: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Bass-Collection-SB310-SGC-Nanyo-Bass-Guitar-Made-in-Japan-free-shipping-/111389715134?ssPageName=ADME:B:SS:GB:3160 Or this!: http://www.gumtree.com/p/for-sale/ibanez-atk-400-bass/1066743076
12. I'd be there if I wasn't gigging myself!
13. Bloody hell! That's a deal and a half.
14. Nice! I like the way you handled the horns.
15. I think you're more or less reached the limit of things you can do with this bass. It's crazy complicated, and antyhgin more you do will have minimal extra effect. It's like you have a spaghetti bolognase sauce with every herb and spice and sauce in it. Adding a bit more basil isn't going to make any noticable difference. You could convert it to string through maybe? I would spend your £275 on another Westone, and go at that from a new angle. Do something crazy with it. Maybe see if you can reproduce the parallel pickup layout of the Italia Modulo bass, but with split P pups. http://www.italiaguitars.com/new/base/modu_02.html Or convert it to 8 string?
16. What sort of thing are you looking for? My brother is a very good player, has some limited teaching experience and is in Thetford. Drop me a PM if you want to discuss?
17. OK Go - Writing's On The Wall New OK Go video and two basses on one track. Awesome! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m86ae_e_ptU
18. All of this is great, but how do I get my Emerald Green Jazz?
19. Looks like a really nice bit of kit, I'll have to keep my eye out for an ESP in future.
20. J - 1.5" - Dots - Emerald Green (drooool....) J - 1.5" - Blocks, no binding - Lake Placid Blue
21.
+ 1 to this reply but as others have said, maybe try an octaver I bought one just last week from a basschat member and used it for the 1st time proper, at rehearsal on Weds although I still need to play with it a bit more I was amazed how well it worked on a few songs.....
When people talk about using an octaver, is it an octave up or an octave down? Any recommended pedals?
22. I find it interesting just picking up a right handed bass left handed, it's an easy way to experience what it was like to be a complete novice picking up a bass. Makes it easier to relate if you're trying to teach a non-musical friend how to play a bassline.
