1.
that is one lovely looking bass, what is it?
It's the Washburn WB66 Idol Bass in my sig. Its an awesome bass :-)
2. People have had brilliant results with waxing instead of full on painting. There are build diaries somewhere. I think it was Truckstop and his ibanez blazers that I'm thinking of.
3. No problem, my fault for having slightly rubbish grammar.
4. I doubt it, unless Jon has a private jet/helicopter?
5. I bought the Hondo bass from the same guy that Jon has bought the Eros J from, so he might send them both at the same time. Coinciding NBDs!
6. You really don't realise how mush you use each of your fingers until you get a cut or pain in one of them. Hands and fingers are a wonderful machine
7. What you've got there is wood, that's for sure.
8. Rubbish! Is there no way you can take band one by the horns and make it 'your' band? No way you can carry on without said guitarist?
9. Did a gig in a morphsuit last month, it was great fun, but a bit tough to see out of!
10. Its a shame it's missing the chrome covers that used to hide the ugly pickups... I suppose they can be replaced though!
11. Martyn is a thoroughly nice bloke. He showed me round his workshop when I took my Sue Ryder P to him for a setup.
12.
This is the cheapest one I can find at short notice... don't know if it's any cop though. http://www.thomann.d...6_relay_g30.htm
The Line6 g30 is a fantastic bit of kit. Highly recommended.
13.
I'll admit, I'll be no help here - so credit to allighatt0r for a much more knowledgeable post. It does look cool, in a very kitsch way
Awww shucks... It was just some humble googling!
14. Just spent ten minutes researching these. They're quite interesting, made in the mid 60s, and sold under various brand names, they were also known as WEM, or Watkins. Info on their construction here: http://www.guitarsit.../about2419.html
Charlie Watkins made the amps, his brothers Reg and Sid did the guitars. Reg was in the furniture business (I think he may have made the cabinets, too). Instead of using a pin router, the bodies are made from two halves (looks like white pine), so that pup and neck routs could be just jig-sawn out. The two were then glued together and, once the body was rounded and painted, the join's not visible until you remove the scratch and pup plates. The paint, BTW, was an early polyester and cracks easily if subjected to big temperature changes.
Even more info here: http://www.watkinsguitars.co.uk/basses.htm Apparently Ice Blue ones like yours were quite a rare colour offering! Also more here about WEM basses: http://basschat.co.uk/topic/2981-wem-bass/ According to completed ebay listings, this one sold for £399, but that seems like a very high price for one to go for. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VINTAGE-WATKINS-WILSON-BASS-LATE-SIXTIES-/171146011050?pt=UK_Musical_Instruments_Guitars_CV&hash=item27d918e1aa There are also completed listings for slightly more sensible prices: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VINTAGE-1950S-60S-BASS-GUITAR-WILSON-WATKINS-/111161701329 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/WEM-SAPPHIRE-RARE-1960s-BRITISH-BASS-GUITAR-WATKINS-/181226065607
15. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/JAPANESE-HONDO-BASS-IN-VINTAGE-HARD-CASE-/261338305108 Would I be mad to spend 111 english pounds on this and stick a hipshot supertone bridge on it?
16. That's very poor QC really. I wonder if they're all like that. I've always had Ibanez marked down as great quality, so this is a shame.
17. Hi Pete, thanks very much for the kind words, glad you got home safely!
18.
You are clearly 95% cocoa butter.
Coffee > Keyboard
19. If anyone wants my Raspberry Pi they can have it for the cost of postage providing it will actually get used. It just sits in the drawer at the moment! EDIT: It's been snapped up, sorry folks!
20. Continuing my recent trend of selling stuff I don't use. 1 set of brand new still in the packet Elixir long scale heavy gauge (.50 - .105) strings for sale. £30 including postage within mainland UK.
21. For sale is my Sue Ryder P bass, which has had the following upgrades: Black Fender pickguard Fender 80's Power Jazz Bass Special pickup KiOgon Wiring Loom Bridge Ashtray Cover Chrome Flat Top knobs (not shown in the pictures below but they were from wdmusic here) It's not the best P in the world, but it's certainly a nice bass. I'm not using it so no point me keeping it. It's a bit buzzy in one or two spots on the neck, but nothing too serious. Strap is not included with the bass, I don't have that strap anymore! [s]£120[/s] [s]£110[/s] £95 collected from Bury st Edmunds or can meet half way anywhere up to 40 miles, so that includes as far away as Norwich, King's Lynn, Huntingdon, Chelmsford, Harlow.... I gig in Romford/Dagenham occasionally so can even make it that far. May be interested in trades for something suitably 4 stringed, multi-pickup-ed and "RAWK!" let me know what you've got.
22. It all depends on how many wires you have coming from the pickups in your retrovibe. By the looks of the diagram, there are 4 wires coming from each of the T40 pickups. I have a feeling the T40 pickups are extra special. The controls give the capability of sweeping from humbucker to single coil and phase shifting potential for the bridge pickup built in. I really miss my T40. I should get another one.
23. You're going to struggle to find anything for £30 in all likelihood. There is a bass in east yorkshire on Gumtree for £70 here: http://www.gumtree.com/p/for-sale/yamaha-rbx-170-bass-guitar/1039555613 Yamaha's are fantastic basses, even the cheap ones, so would be an ideal cheap bass if you can save some pennies.
