A thunder of bassists.
-
I'm quite tempted to get a Jazz kit after seeing this thread. I'll be interested to see how this turns out!
-
Replacement arrived form the US of A this morning. Can't wait to get it fitted!
-
Looking forward to the next instalment! Just starting a band myself (most of the work is being done by the drummer at the moment though)
-
Mine arrived from Strings Direct today. This is a NICE strap. Never tried Elixirs before, so we shall see how they do on my Washburn Idol.

What's the BEST bassline you ever learned?

Fantastic! I really enjoyed that. It's impressive that those bits that move up and down dampen the notes as well as fret them. It would never replace a human though, it would never be able to adapt to subtle tempo changes in a live band setting.
-
You didn't hear it from me but.... I emailed stringsdirect and they've also received some of the elixir straps. If you ask nicely they will add one to your order.

Great! Thanks. Edit : on further inspection, it seems that they're all out of stock! I can't add any to the shopping basket. Hmph.
-
Yes, highly recommended. They're great.

Are the three of them playing separate songs?!

Sorry for a very (VERY) long wait on an update for this. I emailed Hipshot as suggested by Mister Pickguard, and they say the item I have is from an old revision of the model, and that if I send them my one in the post, they will send a new replacement with a longer pole back to me. Result!

This is interesting, I would never set the volume from the "edge of feedback" level of vocals, It seems like that's a sure fire way of getting an ear splitting-ly loud mix! The method I use is to have the drums play alone at first, balancing the kick volume with the snare drum in most venues. In large places we mic up the toms and get them somewhere around the volume of the cymbals. "Overhead beneath the snare and hi-hat to add a bit of zing to those two where necessary. I'll then soundcheck the bass against the drums (either at the end of my 30ft lead in a small place or getting the guitarist to play for me while I listen), so we have a suitable level and EQ such that we're complementing each other rather than clashing or drowning out either way. Will then layer guitars on top of that (adjusting all three instruments if necessary), and then plonk the vocals on top of that. I tend to find that I cut almost all of the low frequencies off of the vocals, otherwise they tend to sound very boomy, especially when talking between songs, although this may just be a characteristic of our PA. Still not found a way to stop the guitarist turning his volume knob clockwise or stopping the drummer from getting a bit more heavy hitting over the gig...

Up for sale is my Yamaha BB1100S. I bought this off of Forum member Heathy (who was the owner from new) nearly a year ago, and I think it's time to move it on as it's just not getting out of it's case as much as my Washburn. Details of mods from the factory spec borrowed from Heathy's original sale thread:
...bought new in 1987. It was gigged regularly over the next few years and underwent the following modifications in the late eighties/early nineties: - brass/bone nut - OBL pickups - Schaller bridge - Hipshot D-tuner - Pickup selector replaced with pan switch After buying a Kubicki bass in 1992, I had the frets taken out of this one, realised I couldn't play fretless and put it in the loft. Fast forward to the present day. It has now had a new maple fretboard and a general spruce up. It has a few dings – mainly on the base of the body and the end of the headstock – but still looks and sounds great.
Since I've had it, I had the pickup selector knob replaced and rewired, as it wasn't working quite as it should but that's all sorted now. The controls are Volume, Passive Tone, Active/Passive Switch, Pickup Selector Knob, Bass, Mid, Treble. Included in the sale will be the hard case that came with the bass when I bought it complete with Heathy's eighties/nineties stickers (and a couple of my own additions). I'm sure they could be removed fairly easily if they're not to your taste, but I think they look cool. You can see a picture in the album I've linked to below. I'm looking for the same price as I paid for it, which is £350. Open to trade offers. I'm reluctant to post this, even with the hard case. Couriers are a nightmare. I'm happy to deliver personally or meet up to exchange (up to 2 hours travelling). I live in Attleborough, Norfolk, but work near Newmarket on weekdays. There is an album of more pictures at the link here: http://imgur.com/a/8BmK5

I tend to stick to jeans and a t-shirt. I tried for a long time to wear a shirt to every gig, but didn't want to set things up wearing a shirt so I would arrive at the gig, get things set up, then change into the shirt in the toilet. I have since got fed up of this and noone else bothers. The drummer does wear a baseball cap, but he is balding, AND american, so there is that....

I'll avoid anyone called The Dangleberries then!!!
I don't think it would be fair to expose them fully, but they are called The D*#@*^~#,*~#S (13 letters). And in case anyone starts guessing, it's not DICKHEADS (that's only 9 letters)
