Howdo, PM on it's way. My phone's working - I just tried ringing myself and I'm definitely in but I hung up straight away 'cos I thought it was one of those "Have you been mis-sold PPI?" calls.
Get yourself on this: http://www.tpsonline.org.uk/ctps/number_type.html It sorts those bloody PPI calls out fairly sharpish!!!

Only ever been to one or two auditions. The most recent one was basically a band rehearsal, however they invited two other bass players along to the same audition...!? I was the only one who arrived on time and with my own equipment. One guy didn't bring an amp, just a bass so spent the night playing through their knackered looking mixer. He made sure he was louder than everyone else (including playing when it was someone else's turn to play bass on a tune). The other guy didn't even bother to bring a bass, and remained silent throughout (except for playing a couple of songs through my gear, just very lightly...) Unsurprisingly, I got offered the gig but turned it down as the guitarist played widdly, tapping and dive-bombing tremolo solos over rubbish like the Word Up and the bloody Proclaimers. Also, they had a local paper journalist and photographer as they had made some sort of donation to the village hall we were practising in!

That's really nice! Sounds gorgeous. How's your eye doing?

Wow! That green looks awesome! Green is my favourite colour, and I've been mildly GAS'ing for a green bass for a long time. This is not helping! The colour combination reminds me of a Sadowsky I saw a couple of years ago. Awesome!
So let's be clear then, 1-either every known manufacturer is unaware of Bills knowledge and needs telling how to do it as he has already stated regarding GK's design department. 2- They have the knowledge and know that it at least could be better the other way and should at least be showing their stacks the other way in some of their brochures etc. 3- Or it's because no one elses 4x10 cabinets have progressed past those from the 70's and actually still sound best the wrong (common) way round?
I think you're pretty much there with these points. Going back to the OP's original question, like Grand Wazoo said, I think you should try both and see what you like best! You never know, you might like it best with both next to each other on the floor....!

I think Pete is right that often, 115s are bassier than 410s. HOWEVER, I don't think that this is necessarily a reflection of the natural characteristics of these configurations (the stuff Bill is talking about). The 410 and the 115 for many years have been regarded as the top and bottom, most likely (I'm speculating here) down to using 410s for bass was born out of borrowed guitar cabs, and 115s being born out of borrowed PA subs back in the day. So, because of this, bassists and the musical gear community as a whole have developed the deeply engrained notion and belief that a 410 is "punchy", or "tight" or has better high end, but not quite as much clout in the bottom end, and that 115s are "bassy", "low" or "deeper" without so much definition. Because of this, cab manufacturers have and will continue to cater to these belief. When they (your average cab manufacturer) make a 410, they tune it to give the sort of sound your average person would expect to hear from a 410, and likewise with a 115 they make it sound like a 115 should sound (again, in the ears of people with the beliefs above). I've experienced this stuff first hand, when I used to have the combination of a Marshall 410 and a 115, I plugged in at a gig and my sound was way too bassy and just not right at all (with my amp settings as normal). It took me a few minutes of head scratching, but I eventually spotted that my bandmates had put the cabs up with the 115 on top. Without changing any of the amp settings, I switched the cab positions and all sounded right again. I don't think this is down to the "average" characteristics of either speaker configuration, more that Marshall conform to the notion that 115 should be bassy and 410s should be punchy, so they purposefully make them that way. So yes, in my opinion the 115 is (as a general rule) bassier than the 410, but this isn't down to the science of cabs, it's down to the predisposition of the buyers and the manufacturers.

If you need a pre-made wiring setup done for you, drop KiOgon (John) a message and see if he can sort you out, he did me a set of P electrics for my Sue Ryder P and they were spot on. Highly recommended.

Crikey! We never even played this song live! Found it to be a doddle in the end anyway It's weird having an old thread dug up! hope it's handy for someone else though.

Much Quieter when both pickups are on full?
allighatt0r replied to allighatt0r's topic in Repairs and Technical
In case this will be helpful to anyone, I had this looked at by someone who knew what they were doing, and I was told that the inputs were wired to the centre lugs of the blend pot, when it should have been the outputs coming from the centre lugs. Also, the pot was a bit rubbish due to old age. -
Are these any use to you? http://basschat.co.uk/topic/157474-metal-p-bass-pickguards-chrome-or-brass/

I think it's clear you're not happy in the situation as it is, and a change is needed. It's obvious you can make something work with the singer playing guitar, and he will only improve with time if he continues to sing and play. You can always find another guitarist if you feel you need it in future.

It's not just slapping he does: That video seems to be from his personal channel.

I like that pickup routing, it's like they were pushed into the body when it was soft. very cool! I haven't seen anything that before, was that your choice or the luthiers?

Cheers for the advice, I'll bear it all in mind! I've got a fair bit of listening to do. I'm told I can expect a mix of all three (English/Irish/Scottish) so I think I'm going to have to get stuck in and see what happens. I've asked them for some chord charts to get me started. They record their rehearsals so I'll see if I can get a copy of that too! With the counting, I assume you mean bars as well as beats if there are the key/tune changes to worry about!

I've been asked to join a Ceilidh band, and being a man of adventure, I've gone and said yes without really ever listening to ceilidh before. Can anyone recommend some good bands to listen to, and offer up some tips and tricks that I should be sticking to? From the limited listening I've done (Pogues and Bellowhead), it all seems very simple, but I don't want to sell it short or anything! Any advice much appreciated!
Haha its good, some one with much more technical skill than me could do a bass specific version?
I could make the flowchart with no issues if someone gave me the content?
