1. So what's the story? Blockheads concert?
2. pretty damn cool! *insert rhythm stick joke here*
3. Where is the best place to pick up some pots from? I guess I'll need some caps if I'm having tone knobs too right? I think i like the idea of having two volumes and two tones at the moment. I had a look in the cavity the other day and didn't really know where to start. I think i will take the pots out with most of the wires attached rather than try to disassemble it one wire at a time in the cavity... Thanks for the help so far! As you can tell I'm quite a novice at this!
4. Go for it. Approach with an open mind and don't worry about any mistakes! No one is going to hate you for a bum note. Take the plunge. You won't regret it. However you look at it, you can only gain from the experience.
5. I think i'm going to rewire my active Yamaha BB614 to be passive. I've used a soldering iron before, i don't have ninja skills with one but i can use one just fine. What i want to know is, if it was your bass, how would you wire it? It currently has two large knobs (Volume and pickup blend) and three small knobs (3 band eq) I'm not sure if i'll need to buy new pots and have some strange 5 knob configuration, whether i will just wire it to the two large knobs and just forget about the small three (but leave them on there for show, it would look daft with three little holes in it) or another option. Any and all suggestions welcome! Thanks!
6. a REAL bolt on neck!
7. That BB1000 is beautiful... my idea of the perfect looking bass... I have major major GAS!!! Why do i never have any bloody money!
8. True, I had had a couple of thoughts about doing that, I have a bit of experience with a soldering iron. But I was slightly put off by the knob arrangement!
9.
The next song is the one with that nasty super fasty run in it thats always a tricky beeyetch when you're practicing. You're knackered cos its late in the gig and you need every last bit of help to play it. Run your plucking fingers down the side of your nose. The 'grease of the day' will lubricate your plucking hand fingertips for a couple of songs, making playing the song a snap. You can even mop the sweat off your brow & nose with a towel first, it wont shift the lube...
It's natural fast fret!!!!! Wipe your hands on everyone else's face too!
10. Some looping solo performance inspiration:
11. If i remember rightly a ric neck is fairly slim and straight all the way down, doesn't get wider in the way you would see on a Jazz. It's a pretty unique thing to rics so you can't really tell if you like/hate it until you try it!
12. I've recently got myself a passive Thunderbird, and realised the joys of passive bass! Subsequently, my active BB614 is getting used alot less. So this is a bit of a feeler. Would anyone care to trade their BB414 for my BB614? It's just less than a year old, and is finished in old violin sunburst, and has got some buckle rash. I can take some pictures if anyone is interested.
13. John Entwhistle was a pick user for quite a while wasn't he? Before he developed his "typewriter" style...
14. Bugger. My SWR Black Beauty runs at 350 watts when a 4 ohm cab is plugged in. I would be scared of killing this! Would be nice to have a matching SWR cab though... Have a friendly SWR shaped bump.
15.
Nice to meet you too! There's an Introductions forum that far more people look at. This little corner of Basschat is just frequented by those of us with a strange penchant for japcrap basses. Though you're welcome to join in. 16. Damn. That 2x10 just about fits the budget i have lately and i really want some trace gear. But Manchester is 200 miles away from me! Good luck with the sale!
17. What sort of TOADALLY ORSUM DOOD?
18. It's like some of Lysdexia's photos!
19. Monster cables have slightly enlarged jacks (Oo-er missus!) but also have the jack bending/loosening reputation... you may be able to take the jack out and slightly bend the long tab that holds the plug in so that it holds it more firmly?
20.
It's very difficult but try resting your thumb with the pad of your finger on the pickup as opposed to bending that joint too much. This totally alters the mechanics of your hand when playing and reduces the stress on those tendons.
I'm not sure what you mean by resting the pad of my finger on the pickup, do you mean the point of my thumb? Also, Geek99, sorry, I meant parallel! Perpendicular would be very odd!
21. About a year ago, i switched from being a pick player to a fingerstyle player, mainly because the joint of my thumb nearest the fingernail is doublejointed, and bends too far backwards, so i can't hold picks properly. Also for tone reasons. Anyway, at my gig last night, about halfway through the second set i started getting pain in the knuckle of my forefinger while i was playing... I don't think there is anything wrong with my fingerstyle technique, i keep my fingers perpendicular and my wrist straight, but i was wondering if anyone else gets this, and if there is maybe a detailed "how to play fingerstyle like a pro" article about so i can look at learning from the ground up?
