Ibanez Page Link    I did a search on here for Gotoh because I'm thinking of getting a bridge, and i came across a thread with a link to this (on thomann) in it... So i did a Google search, and have now been drooling for the past 15 minutes... If only i had £210 to spend... i would be all over it... One day i shall win the lottery.... one day....

Both my basses are others My main bass is my Cort GB74, which i've had abut two or three months and I'm still discovering new positions to put them knobs and switches in. I've only just started taking a shine to pulling the volume knob out and making it passive. I changed the strap buttons for dunlop straploks and accidently chipped off a bit of the finish (it's a sort of translucent white) and underneath is a fairly sexy looking swamp ash body... I'm fairly sure I'd quite like to take off the finish and reveal the wood, but I'm scared! it's a big leap into the unknown. I'd want to either make or send off a template for a black pickguard too... unless the tort one looked good with the bare ash... My other bass is the one i learnt on, that my dad bought off of Ebay for £30, and picked up the same night It's a Peavey Milestone III, and it's basically a cross between a Jazz and a Precision, but with slightly pointier horns... Recently I bought some Wilkinson pickups to replace the stock nameless ones, and it's definitely benefited! perhaps a Gotoh bridge will be next.... That's what i play!
...and I don't blink if the drummer decides he's going to crack the snare when we're setting up
I hate that! I just have to wait for my damn paypal payment to clear through... i don't have a debit or credit card so it goes by bank account... takes at least a friggin' week most of the time

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...em=140213130787 I'm not sure this thing is worth the sum total of £65.99, especially with the "modified" (read: broken off...) headstock. If the price totaled £40 i would have bought it. -
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...em=280205665492 I've certainly never seen one of these before, I wasn't really sure if it was JapCrap so i figured it was best to create an new thread... Not a bad looking thing, shame the seller isn't a very imaginative description writer, or photographer.

After seeing a couple of threads (namely this one) about guys buying and upgrading cheap P basses, I've come to the conclusion that i wouldn't mind getting a slice of the action myself. I just wanted to know, what are the best (and cheapest) P bass copies, I've heard of SX and Westfield and Aria etc. etc. but what would be the best plan of action for buying one at around £50? and perhaps spending another £50 on upgrading etc. Or am i just being far too tight... Also, are there any that are best avoided, i.e. something that wouldn't even benefit from upgrading, and that will just always be a cheap pile of crap... And, would i get ridiculed for wanting to try some home relic-ing? I'm sure i'll have more questions later on.

I've been personally lusting after one of the redburst bison that you occasionally see appear on ebay they look gorgeous to me. I've never had a chance to play with one, but i'm a big tall lanky guy, i'm sure i could manage the long neck. haha. There's currently a black one on ebay with no bits at £280, with 19 hours...
As for bass solo's.... I constantly get told to turn down in practice (i set my volume roughly the same as the guitarist) so one particular practice session I turned my volume controls on my bass to 0 and played along... Noone noticed.
I think that's more of a problem of their's than the people in general, I'm sure my band would notice if they couldn't hear me, the other day they said something to me to the effect of "You need more bass, you sound almost like an extra guitarist" So at least they pay attention to how i sound. I personally don't think about the idiots that don't know/care what a bass is/does, and i play to the best of my ability for my own pleasure, and for the few in the room that are actually paying attention to me. Also, if a attractive young woman asks you what a bass is, tell her it was that rumbling she felt in her trousers.

I've just read the whole of this thread, and have purchased myself a set of ER-20s, and i intend to have a right rant at any band member that dares to take the p*ss. I must admit, i did fork out a whole £1.50 more than i really needed to, so that i could get some that have blue outside ends.... When i was younger, i had a hole in my left eardrum from repeated ear infections (i got one every time i got a cold) and couldn't go swimming because of this, (I got it surgically repaired a few years ago, but I'm still not fully trusting enough to submerge my head ). But sticking my finger into my right ear when watching telly or whatever, i can really notice the difference, so i think it's best i don't let my hearing get any worse.

Welcome! I'm a fellow young one, although not quite as young (I'm 18), and i must say it seems to me like you're made a much better start for yourself than i have, I've never taken lessons, so my technique is rather flawed, so my advice to you is make sure you learn things the right way, and don't learn things the wrong way and try to convert to the right way And i totally know what you mean about bass players being undervalued. The way i see it, is that we would be missed if we suddenly disappeared, but we're never really noticed when we are there (that is, unless you've got some good trouser shaking going on, but i get told off for that.... ) Also, my brother is a bassist too, and he's at college studying Musical Performance, and he's finally playing with people as committed as him. (Only thing is, all but one of them are not as advanced as him, so he has the opportunity for solos, but the saxophone player has a big habit of claiming all the solos.) Sorry for such a huge post back, but i thought yours was large enough to deserve one back. P.S. I wish we had a female singer. I love female rock singers.

Fairly standard Pub gig last night, my seventh gig ever, my first in my home town, and it was alright. Nothing too spectacular, but nothing disappointing (Apart from the nutter that was jumping higher and higher to one song, pushing himself up on his mates shoulders, everyone in the pub seemed to be willing him to whack his head on the ceiling, but he didn't.) We got there about half 7 and the pub was full of girls dressed as army soldiers... but they left before we started. bummer. But we soon lugged everything in and got it all set up, had a soundcheck and had a five minutes R&R before going on. T'was a decent gig, although it didn't live up to the hype that the other bands had made that pub up to be. Roll on Saturday! I'm really getting into the Weekend Warrior spirit.
I've got one of these in a box in garage - it's reminded me to get it out again for the next gig!
I guarantee everyone on Basschat has something interesting in their garage. I think this could be the seed of an off-topic thread. "What interesting wassamajig have you got in your garage?"

Thanks for the explanation BigRedX, thankfully there's nothing i can really afford.
Jungle Love is a great track and it's a cracking bass line...I might have a go at that.
Woohoo you picked mine! What do i win? I think I'm now gonna have to go downstairs and learn it myself. EDIT: I've just found out the Tab i linked to is fairly hopeless... sorry.

Thin Lizzy - Chinatown The main riff is fairly easy and a good bit of fun, and the intro run down is very challenging speed wise, I'm still working on it.
May I recommend listening to the Spiderbait version of 'Black Betty' and hold onto your ears
Yeah I've heard it. I love the car chase! Banjos are so rock and roll.

I only got as far as the bottom of the first page before i saw something GAS-worthy for me... It's a GrassRoots Gazette I did a quick Google search and couldn't find a thing. Any chance of a way of converting these prices into pounds? It may fend off some GAS, but then again it could just make it worse! Another GrassRoots... Who'dathunk Pink could look so cool? I'm guessing the switches aren't for each pickup, because there are four... any ideas? I am officially a GrassRoots GAS-er....
T-Bone ( Thomanns own brand ) are very good quality. There studio mics are beyond belief for the money. We use T-Bone in ear wireless monitors and the above Bug unit and they work flawless.
Thanks for the feedback, £80 is a lot of money for me, so i just wanted the reassurance.

I think if all this multi-tasking is taken into effect in this chart, it will quickly get a lot more confusing than it already is

Thanks very much ferret! Never noticed the wiki existed before, it's making for interesting reading.
That's a funny video. Were RamJam some kind of proto village people? And why's Jimmy Page clapping like a fool in the background?
I honestly don't know... I wonder if they ever bothered making other songs... they obviously deserved to be more than one hit wonders I didn't notice Jimmy before... I'll have to watch and take a closer look...
