1.
"Or slide it anywhere between for any sound you want, as long as it's a dull thud."
I'm still sitting here laughing at this as i type.
2. I'm swiftly becoming a JapCrap spotting addict! I hope you don't mind me showing off my finds... A Kay that looks like a cross between a P and a Rick... the poor soul's bridge needs something done to it thats for sure. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...em=250219285894 And a rather interesting Shaftesbury Rickenfaker too http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...em=250222341521 Another Kay, a gorgeous white SG this time http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...em=320223593984 I do have GAS problems with some of these things... I'd love a Kay for £30 just to whack a new bridge on it, clean it up... put fresh wires in... etc. etc.
3. Didn't Gibson have this sort of idea back when they brought out the Grabber? Boy would i love one of those. Or a Ripper...............
4. I used to listen to Black Betty when i was young ( i still am young... i just mean younger. ) And loved it for just the great rock kinda sound, and the time signature changes ( i didn't know that that was what they actually were, i just noticed them. ) But i hadn't listened to that song since learning to play the bass, until recently... and when it got to the crazy fast tempo bit, i could have fainted... Youtube Link If I ever learn to play that part well, i will consider myself a good bassist. What songs have made you guys and girls feel the same? (or similar?)
5.
I have to confess, OldGit found it first: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=10583&hl=AKG
My fault for not doing a good enough search... sorry!
6.
Here ya go http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2MBgEM5mHms
If anyone wants me, I'll be wondering why a bloke with a mullet has a 4 legged octopus on speed for his left hand...
7. I bought my brother (he plays bass too) a "BASS PLAYER" tshirt from here, for christmas. Which he wears proudly! and so he should! Our bass addiction is not an affliction! It should be advertised with pride!
8.
Deffo number 3. How did you find this2? i spent flippin' ages trying to find it cheaper on Google and couldn't... Do you know somehting i don't?
The AKG units in 1) and 2) say that the frequency bandwidth (is that the right term??) is 40Hz to 20KHz - does that mean they miss "our friends" 20Hz to 40Hz ??
I think i should go read the wireless sticky if i want any hope of understanding this...
9. I'm after a wireless system, as i've started gigging and the band have decided it would be very "rock and roll" to start jumping on the bar etc. So i had a quick search, and found a recommendation of AKG wireless systems, cos they're fairly cheap and there weren't any major problems... so, has anyone else had experience with them, and which would be the better option: 1. Imuso ( A ) Imuso ( B ) 2. Life Is Music 3. Somewhere else? Any help would be much appreciated.
10. In the total of 5 gigs I've played, the band I'm in has developed a bit of a standard floorplan: How do you like my excellent MS Paint skills? This layout basically allows me or the left handed guitarist to walk right forward if we feel the need, and gives us both plenty of space... Whenever i've made eye contact (EDIT: with the drummer), I don't know if it's his equivalent of bass face (drum fizzog???), but he gives me the worst evils you can imagine, and i don't really know what eye contact would accomplish... Also, i listen to the snare, not the hi-hat, so i can hear that anywhere i go(if I'm actually listening )
11. I had a rehearsal last night and found it really annoying when nobody else was playing, and i played a noodle to pass the time, it sounded really loud, (one of the three guitarists tells me off like he's a school teacher whenever i noodle... he doesn't tell the other boys off though! so unfair...) But when it came to actually playing a song (Basket Case or You Give Love A Bad Name as it happens) I was instantly about half the volume, and the guitarists were honestly (for once) rather quiet... I've heard about speakers being out of phase etc. but i thought that was only when the exact same sound is produced from different speakers... Volume is always a difficulty with my band, it seems to me that on a difficulty scale of one to ten, turning up to hear yourself and make everyone else turn up is a 1... and making everyone turn down because we're too loud is a 10.
12. For the complete "bass sweeping" n00b... (me ) what is bass sweeping exactly?
