So we have a picture of my fine self from about 1989/90 playing my first 5-string, an Aria, into an amp I can't remember! Needless to say the cab speaks for itself but I'd be interested if anyone can come up with an ID for the amp! TIA!

We had a new venue on Saturday and when we had set up the singer started to get a level for the keyboard player through the pa. He played a few chords and a sprinkly little jazz run and there was immediate muttering about it being "loud" and "we have to be careful with the volume"! The drummer hadn't even touched his kit at that time so we thought we were going to have problems. We're a five piece classic rock band so do tend to crank it a bit. So we plough into the first song at our usual volume and not a word is said all night!! Gig went down a storm, got rebooked and went away with a big smile on our faces!! So strange, it was the landlady making the comments too, she sat watching the band most of the night and got up for a dance too!!! A good ending for a change!

Thing is most of the time if it's one of our muso pubs we end with 25 or 6 to 4, but in the pisshead ones it's the crap like SOF and bloody Dakota that kicks it off into a singing and dance fest! There's nothing better IMHO than a bunch having a good time in front of you, you're there to entertain and these are the damned infernal songs that do it!! Yuk! I must admit that one of our other best songs is Piece of my Heart which our girlie singer absolutely nails!!!

So usually it's all comments about our girls voice or how the guitarist is better than Hendrix and usually the comments to me are about my sparkly LEDs. Guy came up last night, a guitarist, and said I was the most confident bassist he had seen, so in control and at one with the bass! He said I made it look so easy. At 54 years old I've finally made it, I can put my gear in storage and retire!! Actually it was a very nice compliment and I had never thought of my playing like that, I'll probably play like a twat tonight to prove him wrong!!
