There's your problem right there! You've been trying to put 12 channels through a 10 channel mixer. Or is it one of these?...
I've wanted my cake and eaten it!! Just ask my dietician!!
-
I reckon the short answer is it's an elf and safety issue! Anyone got a Midget for sale???
-
Love it! But oh god I lied.......it's only ten channels.....and how many of them can we use before it's overloaded!!!!!???? If we can only use say eight then what are the other two channels for??? Pixies rest rooms maybe????
-
To be honest I'll quite happily stay out of the PA, it just means at a larger venue I'll be cranking my rig to excessive stage levels.....it has a lot of headroom and I have decent earplugs so it's not a worry!!

Some great replies guys!! Her dad is in Wales and has nothing to do with us apart from last time when it blew he went apeshit at her for putting the bass and keyboards through!!! I can only think that as we don't have bass bins only the treble is let out and eventually there is so much bass stored in the desk it eventually blows!!! Hmmm....maybe not! 😉
The supply power transformer? Sounds like there is a fault with the desk somewhere that hasn't been diagnosed fully and each time you're just fixing the obvious blown part. Get the tech to do a full check. Are you using phantom power at all? Are you using an active bass? How are you plugging in?
Phantom power for the sax only, active bass, DI from TC head post compression, input gain no where near red lighting, just a bit on the front end for spread of sound as mentioned in a previous post. I'm guessing it's just a dodgy desk, singer seems to think as it was supplied to her for her solo act by putting stuff into the other 11 channels (especially the bass) we are damaging it!! At the end of the day we all help with repairs but I object to getting the blame and if it keeps happening how much money do we throw at it! Oh and if anything redlines it it's always her vocals or the bass drum!!
-
According to her and her dad it's because we are not using proper dedicated bass bins!! Shouldn't have the keyboards through too according to her dad!! Trying to work out what a 12 channel 500 watt per side desk running 2 full range speakers of the correct ohmage per side should be used for then!!!!!
Nope - sounds like tosh to me. On occasion I have routed some bass through our PA, and we quite frequently mic up the bass drum which is FAR more likely to produce an unmanageable peak signal. No problems at all. I don't see how the bass could damage the desk anyway. Even if you deliberately overloaded the signal to a massive extent, you'd simply encourage the input clip to do its job and protect the delicate circuitry downstream.
This is what I was thinking, our normal drummer insists on putting the bass drum in and gets a great sound but after a few songs we have to take the input down as he gets louder. This gig we didn't as the drummer (dep)has a real hate for micing up! My bass is nicely limited before getting to the PA so once set it doesn't need adjusting!

Twice our powered desk has packed in with various maladies, not sure what this time but last time it was the transformer. Now our singer seems to have got it in her head that this has happened on the occasions that the bass has been in the PA. Surely the only problems I could cause would be blown speakers, the input gain was not clipping and there was only a little bit of output volume to save me turning up too loud on stage in a largish pub. Has anyone else come across this??
There are a couple of new videos of him on the tube playing a couple of songs in London.
What line was he on? Definitely worth topping up my Oyster card to see that!!! 😀
I too will never let anyone use my gear as i had the same thing as the OP when we supported Wilco Johnson at Fibbers in York a few years ago. I explained to a certain mr Norman Watt Roy that the head put out more power than the cab could take so be careful ! When we packed our gear down after the gig i noticed that both gain & master volume were both up full ! Speaker shagged i had to pay for the repair cheers Norman
I did a gig supporting Wilco and NWR wouldn't let me use his rig, ah what the hell, I still got his autograph and my pic taken with him and he's still a hero of mine! Just would love to have played through the legends rig!!

Great couple of gigs, first off the Tanners in Horsham on Friday. It was in fact more of a special guest night as we had a friend of our guitarist come over from Greece to do a few numbers with us. Now Vasilis Merziotis is a massive Gary Moore fan and has a tribute band back home. So it was half an hour of our normal set and then half a set of Moore classics. The place was rocking, also had his lady friend Eirini Movia come up to sing a couple and another friend up on drums for Sweet Child of Mine. Great stuff!! Saturday and it's the Cock and Bull in Sutton, another good crowd and Vasilis is in again for a few, but this time our guitard is on drums and we're totally honoured to have Vic Martin on keys! Vic played with Gary Moore for quite a few years and it was a blast to play with him, lovely guy too! Finished off with half hour of our usual set, encored with What's Up (4 non blondes) and 25 or 6 to 4 (Chicago) which both went down an absolute storm!! Finished, got paid, and got booked for New Years Eve next year!! Cracking weekend!! 😀
The Original Compact is around 20 X 14 inches. The G3 Compact is around 18 X 12 inches. The Gramma is 23 X 15 inches. The Great Gramma is 30 X 19 inches.
The Gramma it is then, cheers! -

Playing in a classic rock covers band it comes as a bit of an insult to get some silly bint constantly shouting for Elkie Brooks. Unknown to me our girlie rock chick singer is a big Elkie fan. All of a sudden between her and b/f guitarist they suddenly launched into it. So we all busked along and it went down an absolute storm! It was a good gig up to that point but that really kicked it off fantastically.
