Mark @ Bass Direct = Top Man = Top Service!
barneyg42 replied to tonyf's topic in General Discussion
I'm taking passengers to Warwick castle Saturday and might give him visit, what's the parking like? I'm only in a small minibus (transit size) also is it a good place just browse without an appointment, I'm not after anything specific. -
I took it to a tech who couldn't find what was going on, he then wired the fan to be on permanently and it was ok, needless to say it was a bit noisy and I've moved on from it now. It's just sitting in my storage as a spare. I suppose there was some sort of overheating issue although the problem started from straight after switching on so not a lot of chance to get hot. It appears the speaker wasn't the problem as the tech was running it into his diagnostic equipment. Seemed a good versatile sound when working properly, had to be cranked a bit to get the volume though! I found the Hartke 3500 a far better unit with great tone shaping and fantastic headroom. I've gone down the pre amp/power amp route now though.

This was at the reunion of my old band, the drummer gets a solo and the singer decides to do some weird bloody dance for the first minute or so. Despite it being a full reunion only the guitarist and the singer are original members of the five in the band. It has to be said after seeing this I'm glad I didn't get the call! Got my stolen bass back after 11 years wait.
barneyg42 replied to paul j h's topic in General Discussion
Am I reading this wrong? Surely it should be 21 years, you say it was stolen in 91! Great result either way! -
I'm a bit thick me............I don't use this pedal much but in one band I use it for just one effect in the middle of a song. Otherwise it needs to be in bypass mode. Now I know you can put a switch on it to kick it between effect and bypass with having to contort your foot to press both buttons. I believe this is either latching or non-latching? So which one do I need? Am I barking up the wrong tree totally?

Damn shame, I had the first Montrose album on vinyl for many years, got rid of it along with all my other vinyl and hadn't bother to get it again. Downloaded it yesterday and gave it a good cranking, still a classic! RIP Ronnie
You ever have any problem with aircraft accidentally landing at your gigs?
I played in Farnborough on Friday night and the airport put me on standby in case of a power cut! -
Five piece classic rock band, Keyboard player behind pillar on right having to crawl under keys to get in position, his amp is in another (raised) room behind him with a bannister between it and him! Thankfully I've got a headless Status now which certainly helps in situations like this. Drummer found it easier to climb in through window to get to his kit! Needless to say once I (fat bastard) and our singer were in place it was a bit tight!
close encounters of the bass kind Barney?
It gets better! My band's Vicars and Tarts party.....me in vicar outfit playing the light sabre! -
Just gave my new(ish) Barefaced Compact it's first run out in my hands last night in rehearsal with a Pink Floyd band I play in. What kind of sorcery is used in these little monsters? Have I sold my soul to the devil? Punchy, loud, mega lightweight and just so there in the mix! I was using my status S2 fiver and my Yammy fiver fretless through an Mxr Di80 into a power amp and it totally kicked my old 15 into touch. The BCer who I bought it off had only used it at home so it's virtually brand new and didn't feel particularly run in as these are supposed to be but by the end of the night it was cooking. I may look at a MidgetT in the future for a bit more top but to be honest it's just great as it is. What really impressed was that it was as clear as standing 2 foot away as it was 20 foot away! Got two gigs this weekend and I can't wait! Loved the look on my bandmates faces when I picked it up one handed over my head and then gave it to them to lift, keys wondered if it had polystyrene speakers in it!

Still get a tear in my eye thinking about the loss of Gary, we play Parisienne Walkways and Still got the Blues in my band and he and Phil Lynott are always in our thoughts. Sad loss

Depressing things your bandmates say.

What are you listening to right now?

Watching Gary Moore and Friends, One Night in Dublin tribute to Phil Lynott. Quite a poignant watch with the upcoming anniversary of Phils death and the sad loss of Gary this year -
Sorry to hear that, but it won't be returning.
Dammit! Well it seems to be an IE problem for me, all other sites are okay in IE so I have to open Safari to view BC without the multi-clicking frustration!
-
And back to the three clicks to go back a page again FFS! Dunno if it's just me but I don't have this problem with the blue IP theme.
Sorry to hear you and others are still having issues Barney. Its not clear whether the forum is actually responsible for how your browser functions from what you've described. I realised it was happening when you were accessing the forum but have you checked whether all your software is up to date?
All software on laptop and Iphone up to date, the IP theme is back so I have no problems at the moment, strange that the back button problem only happens when using the Basschat theme and only when using IE9 (which I believe is the latest version).

Oh this is getting hard work to be honest.....from day one since the change over I've really struggled with the forum. I accepted that there would be teething problems and carried on struggling for a while but it's really pissing me off now. I've found it so much slower and the main problem has been that when I pressed the back button (either in the top corner of the browser or right click and back) I would have to do it several times before it would return to the previous page. Then I found out about the change theme button. changed theme to the IP one and it was all good. So a couple of days ago clicked on my Basschat button to find I had to log in, no probs, logged in and it's back to the Basschat theme and the same old back button problem. So I go to change the theme and it won't bloody change! I click on the change theme button and a little window comes open on it which I guess should have the option to click and change but it's empty. It gets to the point that i really don't want to trawl through the forum as I'm clicking away like a nutter just to go back a couple of pages. Any ideas anyone? Just to add, I'm using IE9, just fired up Safari and the back button problem doesn't come up but I'm still not able to change the theme!

There's a nice little riff in unison with the guitar in the second verse that I'm having trouble picking up, my ears arnt hearing it and all the online tabs seem pretty crap, anyone got a copy or can send me the notes/tab at all?

Absolutely horrendous gig at Ye Old Crown, Edenbridge. Please avoid like the plague! I've been off work ill all week so wasn't really looking forward to this anyway. You play down a couple of steps in another seating area with just about enough room, not a problem. When we got there some sort of all day 50th party was going on so everyone was trolleyed already. This didn't bode well. First couple of sets our singer (pretty girly) attracted the attention of a couple of tossers and she told them in no uncertain terms to **** off! Third set and as we kick into Brown Sugar which the guitard sings two of these cavemen see this as an oppotunity to invade the space left by the singer, jump down the steps into our playing area and start staggering around the gear, keys player jumps out and bundles them away, one of them takes exception to this and starts rounding on him. His mates drag him away. Carry on playing and few seconds later he's back chucking a pint over the keys top keyboard and the front of my bass and shirt! He retreats quickly, we switch off and give up. Seconds later he's back, trying to apologise, when I point out the value of what he's chucked beer on and we're not interested in his apologies and tell him tell **** off he then threatens to "see me outside" Nice piece of work. It just seems to be kicking off in different parts of the pub so we run the gear out in tandem watching each others backs, the asshole seems to be in another carpark nearby as we can still hear him kicking off, at someone else thankfully! We're all packed up saying our goodbyes when suddenly a lad who has been stood near us gets bundled over and gets a bad kick to the head! He's out cold with claret everywhere, whoever did has done a runner and it's an ambulance job! Never have I been so pleased to be away from a gig in my life. So why do we bother? Thousands of pounds worth of keyboard that could be buggered, the most expensive bass I've ever bought with beer chucked all over it! Our pay............60 quid a head! Weekend warriors they call us, well you need to be bloody Mad Max to survive out there sometimes!

One off rehearsal with a Pink Floyd tribute!
barneyg42 replied to barneyg42's topic in General Discussion
Well, I appear to be in! Other bassist has bailed and I've got the nod! Very "Pulse" based so I've dug the fretless out and got another Zoom B2 for some of the effects. They were well impressed with my fretless octaver playing in Sorrow. Getting more interesting from week to week as I'm now learning it all properly. -
I'm 50 and hoping to make it.........................................to 51!
