Just a quick question, I popped into the jam room briefly to have my ears bashed by one of Mr Clabers cabs, which model was it? Monster sound, me want! -

Posted this in "Off topic" but thought I'd put it here too....... Another great day, good to see the usual suspects again and good to meet some new ones! Some great kit on show again, Bassmanady, nice Spector mate! Well done to the guys who organised it, big shout to Nik, Hamster, Mrs Hamster, Merton (Status still for sale, get in quick, Walman (Al) was playing it for a long time!)I hope Alex has bought a lottery ticket after his multiple raffle wins! The lectures I attended were great again, 51m0n on recording was interesting and amusing as usual, last year the catchphrase was "one knob" this year is "it's all a lie"!! Classic stuff again! Jakesbass gave mini lessons to a few of us with others looking on and passed on some great advice and is one hot player too! Got some homework to do I think. My mate Lee came along with his Kingbasses and seemed to have a ball, he's a great slapper and has a couple of cracking basses that deserved and got a lot of attention, hopefully he'll be joining the forum soon. It was all over too quickly as usual so here's looking forward to the next one, looking forward to seeing some pics as I didn't take any in the rushing around from room to room to look and listen to stuff! Again, great to meet everyone, safe journey home to you all, see you again! -

Probably bringing my old Status S1 fiver, looking to sell it for about £350, plenty of mojo but plays well, will advertise it properly later but if you're at the bash and interested come and have a play! -
Whilst I appreciate it's all new and things take a while to sort out I'm not liking the mobile side of things, I'm trying to look at the latest posts on a thread ie "how was your gig last night" and the button on the left takes me to posts from 2008! I then can't shortcut to the end without scrolling through about 120 pages. Of course I might be missing something here, please tell me if so! Also the mobile interface does not allow you to change your setting etc, just a basic menu, will this change? Would really like the option to use the full site as before although I'm sure I read somewhere this will be added soon.

I was at this....Hammond bass,May on keys, Clarkson (useless) on drums. To be fair he only just learnt drums for this, Hamster and May both been playing for years. Was a cracking night, met the guys, had a great chat with Clarkson...top bloke!

Just waiting to get paid, Lion Brewery, Ash. First gig with new Status, absolutely stonking! Punchy, sweetest sound and the ladies love the LEDs! Used a Boss LMB for the first time too give the speakers a bit of protection and it's a cracking little pedal, didn't colour the sound but sat it nicely in the mix. Great gig, crowd up for it, band well up for it and our new drummer is a cracker.
I wonder why someone places an ad and does not answer PMs... what's the string spacing on this one ?
Not sure wether Jason frequents this site any more to answer questions as this bass was sold to me through the Statii site about three weeks ago! -
As title says really, everything looks the same but is it?
Bunch of bassists and kit in a big room. Lots of chat, rather informative or not, lots of drooling at expensive kit. Several cups of tea later you go home after a very pleasant time. If you're very lucky you dont find yourself selling a kidney to buy something new and shiny the following week.....
+1 to all of that plus there are no egos and last year minimal slappage! Some good talks and some great gear to try out, everyone always seems happy for you to try out their rig/bass etc. Tis a great day out no matter what your standard of playing is! Edited to add.......Don't be put off if you have an ego or into slap, all welcome! -
One off rehearsal with a Pink Floyd tribute!
'Money' is quite fun to play though isn't it? I suppoose we should respect Waters for not writing overly complicated bass lines just because he was the bass player but sticking to the golden rule of creating what was right for the song.
+1 -
So last night had a one off rehearsal with a PF tribute that our keyboard player is in as the regular guy had a gig with another band. They were going to rely on his left hand but with the complexity of the keyboard parts he persuaded them to get me in to help. Only had a couple of days to gen up on the music but to be honest I didn't find it too daunting at all. Best of all though was my Status S2 5-string turned up in the morning so it was almost straight out of the case and into action. What a bass, so easy to play and find a sound.....excellent! Strange thing is I've been listening to Floyd for years and only done the obligatory Comfortably Numb and Another Brick in bands so when it came to learning a load of the other stuff I was totally underwhelmed by it bass wise. Don't get me wrong, the bass underpins a lot of the songs well but the whole thing seems to really revolve around the guitar and keyboards, it seems funny that I had to play the songs to see this, only my opinion of course we all see and hear things differently. They were very impressed with what I did and I think I'm first call dep for the gig if their bassist is double booked again but couldn't see myself doing Floyd on a fulltime basis. So here I am on my day off watching Pulse for the umpteenth time and loving some of the work that Guy Pratt does, but it's brilliance in small doses, the rest just sitting on the root in very repetitive passages of music whilst Mr (don't call me Dave) Gilmour gives it the beans! But hey..........still love it though!
I had to get there by train last year from London, I got a cab to the venue and it cost me just shy of a tenner, and I got a lift back to a convenient bus stop which got me all the way back to Brixton, but the taxi guy who dropped me off said he was happy to do the return trip to the station later. Either way it was easy enough to get a cab and it didn't take long.
A tenner????? Blimey that's a lot, I get cabs to the next towns for less than that around Addlestone! I'll get a few quotes and post up the cab co. numbers for you when I get a chance. -
Just did a deal with Jimmy for an MXR M80, transferred money Sunday, pedal sent Monday, arrived at work this morning(Tuesday)! All working ok as described, great transaction, Jimmy has been a pleasure to deal with. Buy with confidence!

Chalk and Cheese........Friday night the Fox and Hounds, Walton on the Hill. New drummer whose had two rehearsals and he nailed it, brilliant stuff, good crowd and we played a storm. So today I decide to rack up my Trace pre-amp that I got a while ago into a 4u case that I've got with my power amp as we are headlining the Ash Music Festival, Ash nr Aldershot and I thought it would be better and safer for a quick turnaround. We'd already booked the guitarists step-father to play drums on this one and oh what a mistake that was! Despite gigging with us numerous times he just hasn't learnt a thing, we can have a practice at his house, sort songs out and an hour later he plays them totally different. So we are struggling through our set and all of a sudden my nicely racked Trace and amp gets knocked off my cab by a gust of wind moving the curtain side of the trailer we are playing on and it bites the dust on the floor. It's still making a noise but at the end of the song the roadie comes up as the sound has died out front, the bloody DI socket on the front panel has been pushed in and broken, so I rig up to a box he has and all is ok again. When I pack up I also find the lid catch has bent so have to gaffa it up to get it home. Fecking nightmare, problem is the drummer is married to guitarists mum and he can't say a lot but he was as gutted as I was at some of the gaffs and crap he was playing. So we buggered off and had a curry and a beer so feeling better now!

Probably an often asked question and I've done some searches and I'm none the wiser. Biggest problem seems to be that most shops don't have much on the shelf so I can't test drive before I buy so I'm reluctant to press the buy button on the interweb and risk £100+ and find I don't like. I predominantly play an old Status S1 5-string, playing classic rock so just need a good punchy sound, I only use overdrive on one song and have a pedal to cover that, although a pre-amp pedal with an overdrive button would cover this. I will be running into a power amp and a 1x15/2x10 set up. So, the contenders? MXR M80 vs Sansamp seems to be the obvious showdown and I've read good and bad about both. Any other ideas out there, or indeed further opinions about these two?
