1. Smoke machines and fire alarms, some times they get on other times they go off... usually when we are playing
2.
Fair enough question and probably as much to do with the mind-set of the user than the actual kit, but the sterotypical sound of the amp sits in the 80's. I get that you could possibly get any sound you want... and you could say many amps have very powerful tone shaping, but that is not actually what you should want, so you are left with a default sound which sits back into the 80's. Personally, I never took to the sound even back then, even though for a while it was the stand-out gear, and it took the Valve power stage to clear down the inherrent metallic sound somewhat. The sound is outdated because you don't hear anyone current... where sound is far more critical, using one, and they haven't since the early 90's when SWR/Eden took over. It may be a tad unkind, but the Status/TE is long gone. I never found the graphic subtle enough, which is always the problem when you make them as compact as possible (and also why I avoid them like the plague) For that reason, they tend not to be that subtle either. Current sounds fads are not really the domain of the local player either but I think the default sound bias of them should be as critical as the weight issue. Most people get rid of them for that reason first, whereas I'd say the reason they lost all that ground was the sound. I'm not sure a 7 band or 12 band of the type TE typically used was the way to go anyway...but I'd say Ampeg and even Boogie fell for that as well..? Maybe an example of demand leading the design and, therefore, understandable.
What would you recommend as the 'current sound' go to head for the local player who is looking to improve on his once hip but now outdated lump?
3. Is that finger or thumb? It sounds nice and tight. Does it stay punchy with a bit of gain thrown in? I think we need a N E bass bash....
4.
You want to try the Peavey 8x10. The rehearsal room I use has one, with a World Tour head. Epic sound, but about the weight of a Mini.
I used to own a Peavey 8x10 with an Orange Head in the late 80s. That rig was mental and the cab sounded fantastic.
5. Peter Hook. Not flash or in your grill but definitely up front.
6. Skunk Anansie Alanis Morrisette
7. Red. Keep us up to date with the postpunk/goth band. That's right up my street. We've started putting on our own event once a month in the North East if you're interested, and check out Goth City Leeds on Facebook they put on gigs in Yorkshire. All the best Bren
8. I've just picked up the new Electro Harmonix Bass Clone. It’s pretty good, it's certainly worth a go. It gives more chorus to my sound than my previous EBS unichorus. I use it with a bit of distortion... Check the video out on You Tube

13.
They're also touring. The Mission have just started their 30th Anniversary tour...
Sisters on tour in the UK next month. I'm off to the Sheffield gig

15. Stupidy loud, like the one we did last week. Not sure sure what the craic is with sound enginerds in the North East at the moment, but standing out front and listening to some of the other bands that we shared the gigs with was painfull to the point of me walking out last night.Yeah, punk and rock music needs a bit of poke but it shouldn't be unbearable. The outside of the building was shaking, I thought the windows where going to blow... crazy. We had a good gig though, the sound levels on stage where okay and it was all for charity. Same again tonight, Gateshead this time.
16. Okay, I give in I will post in the UK only. Fully insured, in it's Roqsolid case + bubble wrap + Cardboard box. If that's okay with you then I'll ship. Cheers Bren
17. Sorted by Stoneham. Pulled the valves, noise disappeared. Put valves back noise gone. Thrashed the amp at practice still good. I was told to keep an eye on it. No charge, but slipped him a few quid. Very happy and will definitely use again. The Trace Elliot sounds awesome again.
18. Love the early Sisters stuff. Alice is one of my all time favourite songs, the sound of the bass on the early stuff is excellent. The Missions new album is pretty good too it's certainly got that old vibe about it. A very solid bass player and often overlooked. It would be great to get an updated gear rundown from Craig.
19. One of the best bass guitars ever. The quality of the BB3000 is very apparent as soon as you touch it, absolutely top notch... and you have that sound. If you play a precision, it's definitely one to put on the bucket list. If you can't get away with the dimensions of the Fender the Yamaha may not be for you. I sold mine as I couldn't get on with the string spacing and the pickup width. Shame really, it was one of my dream guitars.
20. Yes, it's been through the mill over the last few years but now seems to be pulling in the business. Check them out.... loads of gigs on.
