Its a massive improvement/difference (delete as necessary) - i had an ABM500 evo3 and sold it after a few months as it was too "woolly" strangely enough. Couldn't get any top end sizzle or get rid of the pillowy bottom end. Tried a Rootmaster and it was ok but not just didn't have enough about it for me to spring the cash - sales guy then said i should try the ABM600 regardless of my previous experience. Bought it 20 minutes later. It just had so much more slam to it than the Rootmaster and as long as you are happy to do some extreme eq'ing (i.e don't gently tweak some eq points, turn them right up or down - which can seem a bit weird till you get your head round it) you can get some very unAshdowny sounds going on. And it will rearrange your intestines when its cranked up - thats what the Rootmaster didnt seem to have. Set without the preshape it can seem a bit dead but if you run the preshape - which sucks the mids right out and i think is unusable as it is - and cut the bass dial back to about 11o'clock then stuff loads of mids back in with the eq it comes alive. Also push the high end right back up and you can get it nice and zingy. it doesn't respond to subtle very well. I don't use the compressor or sub thing. Run the valve drive below noon to add some Ampeggy flavour or turn it off to sharpen things up a bit.
Cheers mate. It sounds like a big step forward over the 500. I'll have to find a stockist and try one. I just couldn't get a finger sound I was happy with when playing in my band. No problem with a plectrum though.

You need to try one. I've found Ashdown have a sound of their own. I'd be interested to hear about the ABM600 and if it's an improvement over the ABM500.

Fingers crossed Andertons will do a comprehensive review of what this head is capable of. That one is just three blokes playing bass.

I've just watched the pro mo vid. It looks very well built and sounds great. I'm very interested in this head but need to see/hear more samples of the various sounds it can put out. Hard attacking finger style please with crunch, please. If it needs a fan then so be it. I won't hear it when playing live, it's a 900w head rammed full of distortion for stage use... it's not a bedroom toy. I think I want one.

Very nice bass, is it the German or Korean version?
Do you think this set up would be loud enough for pub gigs 80 -100 punters ? baring in mind the sensitivity of the cab & the power of valves ?
I'd use a CTM 100 at least, just to keep a bit of clean headroom. Which is what I'll be doing tonight ... If you like total tube fuzz then try the LB. -

It's a Trace Elliot AH600-12 and it's started to make a strange rumbling sound, like distant thunder/wind. I've spoken to Stoneham and explained the situation. They are quite happy to take a look so it's getting dropped off tomorrow. Cheers Bren

Thanks chaps. I'll speak to both and see what they say.

No one?

Who is excellent at repairing SS amps in North East?... Urgent. Not Cameron Electronic. After taking a look inside he didn't want to take it apart. Possible gig next Thursday could do with it back sharpish. Cheers Bren
I got a TE AH250SMX new in the early 90s, and it's still very much alive! Last year I just wanted more headroom for one band in particular, and after much thought, discussion and agonising I took the plunge with a GK Fusion 550 from Bassgear. Fantastic amp with all the edginess you could want but the versatility to dial it out if you wish. The SMX is now my 'home practice ' setup, except when I feel guilty and gig it as happily as before. Pondering a GK MB series as a compact practice /backup head..
I think the GK will be the one for me. I've just set the Gallien Krueger model up on my Zoom B3. It sounds pretty good. Cheers
Not sure an svt 3 pro would suit tbh. There a bit tame!, they do sound good though. I fancied one for a while and tried out a few. Bought an Bugera bvp 5500, a kind of clone of the ampeg, all valve front end etc, after seeing a thread on talkbass comparing the 2 side by side and build quality etc. The bvp 5500 does exactly the same as the 3 pro but actually does proper overdrive too and costs almost 1/5th the price of the ampeg. There cheap enough to give a try.
Cheers Twincam, they do look good value.
