I have one, I'm slowly getting into using it (53y old). At the moment, the Morningstar MC6 is the heart of the midi-set up of my band (https://vi.be/platform/bandwerk) but the plan is to change to Mortrix. As we control our drums (Beatbuddy), keys, effects and loops via midi, it is a slow process. At first I thought the different operating choices of the Mortrix would make it difficult to change from the MC6 (which is doing a good job at controlling everything) but now I slowly start to see the benefits of Mortrix. A lot more testing and thinking is needed but I am confident I will get there. I am keeping an eye on this page and the Mortrix discord page.

The flats (Thomastik JF 345 5string, nickel flatwounds, 043 - 136" ) on my custom fretless are 8 years old now. They have been sounding 'good' since a year or two.

Wow, apparently I am one of only a few who does a number 2 (Take off each string one at a time and replace)

At home, on my own, the distortion sounded stinky poo but in a band mix I found it to be one of the most usable distortion-sounds on bass.

I played barefoot once at a very hot summer rehearsal. Suddenly I had a new appreciation for the Boss pedal design.😆

I call my Peavey T-40 lovingly "The Old Lady" My five string double humbucker bass was named by its builder: "Workhorse". At the time I found the name a bit disrespectful of such a fine instrument but after using it for more than 10 years in various bands, I have to agree: it is a "workhorse".

Nobody tells ME how to use an effects pedal..........

All least he's not using an OC-2, that would be blasphemy. -
It looks stunning. Excuse my ignorance but what is so special about it? (apart from being mentioned in a book) And afcourse, being a T-40 with this beautiful wood: what does it weigh?

You guys clean your strings!! 😳

In my view, a drum machine can not replace a drummer. At best, a drum machine can be used as a metronome in the absence of a drummer. That being said, in my band (www.vi.be/bandwerk ) we use a Beatbuddy drum machine as our drummer, also live. This works fine because our songs are written -from the start- with the Beatbuddy as drummer. We are a rock band but because of the nature of the Beatbuddy, we also sound a bit like a new wave band (which is fine for us).

My bandmate in the Americana-band kept telling me I needed an upright bass, I kept answering him "my birthday is on November 15th". I never got an upright bass for my birthday so I kept playing my 5-string basses.

Smashing Pumpkins. Don't get me wrong: good sound, great light-show, good singing and playing from the band but a)zero interaction with the audience and b)I could just as well have stayed home and listened to the CD because it sounded just like the CD. Again that's fine but SP played all the songs just like on the CD. Guns 'n' Roses at the time of the Use Your Illusion CDs. Then again, I was expecting them to be crap and they were crap (with an half an hour 'unplugged' session in the middle). So, technically they didn't disappoint me.

Artists best known for one unrepresentative song

"Take My Breath Away" by Berlin. From the film Top Gun with Tom Cruise but not written by them. The single is a cheesy ballad but the album is full of modern rock-songs. I love the album but always skip the single. -

Four String Five String? Now NBD. Why is nobody surprised?
Britsie replied to Skinnyman's topic in General Discussion
That depends on the bass. I strung different basses in BEAD. Some could take it and sounded great, some -indeed- sounded muddy (or 'watery' as I described it). The ones that sounded muddy I re-strung in EADG and sold. All my basses are in BEAD(G) now. I love it. -
And which colour did you go for?😁

This. Best suggestion.

I never play air bass, I am much better at playing the air guit*r. In the real world, it is just the other way around.

I like what I am hearing. Interesting that you are all on different continents. Must make rehearsing a hell of job. 😏 -

If the pick ups would have been without the ears I would have said: 'with veneer'. Now, I am not really sure. 🤔
