1.
I see your avatar is a Jaydee. How do your GBs compare in the real world to your Jaydee (assuming you still have it?)
Tonally both the GBs are more versatile than the Jaydee (which I do still have although it's now Cherry red after having been back to John for a full refurb last year) and are lighter and more 'compact'. But the Jaydee has 'that' tone which is unique and (to my ears) cannot be replicated by any other instrument Quality wise they are on a par as they are all hand made instruments built by guys that are both knowledgeable and passionate about what they do. In fact, as a creation, I'd say the Jaydee has the edge because the build quality is as good as you can get and the little details like the neck & headstock binding, the brass roller nut etc just finish it off perfectly - highly recommended!! Cheers Dave
 2.
I'm thinking about ordering a Rumour from Bernie to sister my Spitfire and want to now what the real differences are, AFAIK the tronics are the same, so what could I expect to notice side by side.
I have both Rumour and Spitfire basses, both custom built for me by Bernie, the Rumour in 2003 and the Spitfire 3 years later in 2006. As I already had the 'full on' circuit in the Rumour (with the HB pups) we decided to go a different route with the Spitfire and Bernie put Single Coils in it (disguised as HBs so visually the bass has the 'GB' look) and also fitted the 'In Line' jazz control layout which to my mind suits the visuals of the Spitfire better as well For me apart from the sonic differences (due to aforementioned pup differences) the biggest difference is the neck/balance/weight thing. The Rumour (being a thru neck) is both balanced perfectly and light. The Spitfire (by comparision) is slightly neck heavier as well as heavier overall. It also has an 'older school' sound (if that makes sense) although, due to the Rumour circuit, still has a massive array of tones on tap and definately has that 'GB' sound No need to go into the support/service side of things that Bernie offers as you'll already be familiar but if you're considering a Rumour I'd say 'go for it' as they are comfortable, light, ultra playable and sound the dogs - I'm sure Bernie would loan you one if you wanted a test drive! Failing that if you're ever in the North Devon area (unlikely I know!) you'd be more than welcome to come and have a widdle on mine! Cheers Dave
 3. I have seen/played this bass and can confirm it is an absolute beauty both visually and sonically - will make someone very happy!! Cheers Dave
 4. The Early Tapes (also by Level L42) - is the young MK at his megaslaptastic best!! (have a listen to Standstorm or Mr Pink) Cheers Dave

 6.
After a long research, i confirm that's this bass is a old model , it's not a status S2 but it's a serie II (80's).
How much 'research' does it take to bung Rob an email with the S/N?!! About 10 seconds I reckon!!! Anyway nice bass - good luck with the sale Cheers Dave
 7. Similar story with a Jaydee funnily enough - bought a Series I Classic in June 06 - stupidly parted with it 6 months later (regretting it almost immediately) and eventually bought it back from the fellow BCer I sold it to (after he'd had it back up to JD for a superb refurb) the day before valentines day - it must be love!! Cheers Dave
some of you have had dealings with him before, he's called Will Tottle (Known as Gilly on here) and is great to deal with and a fantastic player, so please buy with confidence.
Speaking as one who has completed a couple of deals with Will, I can wholeheartedly endorse Josh's comments - a great guy to deal with and a top bloke - highly recommended (great bass too - if I didn't already have my 'ultimate' JD I'd be on the phone by now!) Cheers Dave
 9. I have a Jaydee Supernatural Classic (Series I) fitted with pickups taken from Mark King's very first Jaydee (which he still owns) #00003 - John Diggins has kindly provided written confirmation!! Cheers Dave

 12.
Hi Dave! Wonderful! My Series I Session model is over with John being resprayed - can't wait to get it back! Might be doing a deal with my best mate to regain my old pink GA24.
Hi Nick - how'ya doin!! 13.
Whats the serial number, if one may be so bold as to ask?
80469 - it denotes the original owners birthdate who custom ordered the bass in 1997 This led to confusion amongst previous owners as the '80' was taken as a reference to 1980 being the year of manufacture - this was understandable in a way for two reasons; 1. A lot (but not all) JD serial numbers do reference the year of manufacture in the first one (or two) digits of the serial number 2. When the bass was built it was ordered as a replica of MKs #0003 JD which was built with the old original style 'slab' Series I body which would be consistent with a 1980 build date Gilly did some research whilst he owned the bass and a full history, including all owners/dates etc (as well as the documented provenance of the pickups) has now been detailed Hope this helps! Cheers Dave
 14. Josh I've PMed you Cheers Dave
 15. Hi all Following the recent sale of my stealth II 5 string I have been able to complete a deal on re-acquiring the one bass I regretting letting go………a superb Jaydee Supernatural Series I Classic I originally bought this bass in June 2006 but in December of that year traded it (and regretted it almost immediately) – however the silver lining was that I traded it with fellow BCer Gilly who, as part of the deal, agreed to offer me 1st refusal on it should he ever decide to move it on. When we did the deal the bass had been the subject of a refin and was painted in a satin black finish, having originally been cherry red. During Gilly’s ownwership of the bass he returned it to John Diggins for a full refurb including restoration of the original finish, complete overhaul of the wiring/pots and replacement of the headstock facing. Anyhow we kept in touch and, long story short, Gilly recently contacted me offering me said 1st refusal – we were able to put the deal together and I collected the bass last week. Gilly also discovered whilst owning the bass that the pickups are in fact the original set taken out of Mark King’s #00003 Jaydee after he wore them down to the magnets(!!) They were re-laminated prior to being installed in my bass – JD kindly provided Gilly with written confirmation of this when the bass was refurbished As the photos show the bass has been superbly restored and looks absolutely stunning – it plays and sounds awesome and, despite being so large, is actually very comfortable when strapped on and balances beautifully – needless to say I’m extremely happy!! I’ve attached some ‘before’ and ‘after’ pics to give an idea of the work that has been completed – a couple of the ‘after’ pics are Gilly’s but I’m sure he won’t mind then being posted – I’d also like to express my thanks to him for honouring his word in offering me the bass back prior to putting it on the open market – I do appreciate it. Anyway enough of my waffle – enjoy the pics!! Before......... After............ Cheers Dave

 20.
That reminds me of a great quote from Peter Hook who was asked why he slung his bass so low. "Otherwise I'd look like that **** from Level 42"
Or how about the immortal one from JJ Burnel upon a chance meeting with the Kinger "the problem with your band is it needs a f**kin bass player" - brilliant! Dave
