didn't brian may use some oak in his red special?
Yep, quite right. The main centre section of the RS is indeed oak (2 seperate pieces) onto which the tremolo, bridge, pickups and neck are mounted. The oak centre section was then complimented by blockboard wings (hollowed out with acoustic sound chambers) before the whole thing was covered with mahogany veneer - unique design giving a unigue tone! Cheers Dave

Still minding to sell her but haven't decided yet, it's one of those tough decisions, I'm sure you know what I mean.
Indeed Indeed!!! Well I can assure anyone that maybe reading this thread and is interested in aqquiring this bass (re Enzo's comment above) that; 1. You'll not find a better example of John's craftsmanship anywhere - a truely stunning bass 2. You'll not find a better guy to deal with than Enzo - 100% trustful & honest seller Cheers Dave
For me, one of the most beautiful uses of the bass to provide a solo theme is Weather Report’s ‘A Remark You Made’, a piece which is actually very easy for even a learner bass player to play. When you get past the chops, there’s often not a lot there.
+1 to the above - also in the same bracket would be 'Together Again' by Stanley Clarke - job done! Cheers Dave

My main bass - have literally used this for everything, it's so versatile - 2006 custom built GB IV Cheers Dave
It's a monster - it's one of the best sounding GBs I've heard. I was talking with Bernie - just goes to show that the none fancy woods can often sound better... the ones that seem to stand out always seem to be the solid colour ones! Having said that, I was around when Bernie strung up your 6 - he passed it me to see what I thought of it. The fundamental notes are very strong and the notes sustain for ages... it's looking good!
That's my old bass! I met up with Bernie a couple of weeks ago when he bought it back off me 7 years after he built it for me (he's changed the strachplate since having it back)- twas a sad day but I'm only playing my Spitfire 4 now (my avatar pic) which Bernie made me 3 years after the Rumour, so it made sense in a way. Stonking sounding bass though and you're right, it was the best sounding Rumour I'd played/heard. However (believe this if you will), one of the other reasons I decided to let it go is that my Spitfire sounds even better (same Rumour circuit in it) Such great basses and such a top bloke!! Long live GB!!! Cheers Dave

Mezzoforte have been one of my favourite bands since the early eighties - awsome grooves! I posted the 'Garden Party' live link a while ago on another thread cause it just knocked my socks off http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=62991&hl= Like I said, great band, great grooves & great playing!!! Cheers Dave
"hammer to fall" good choice...that'd get my foot tapping
+2 on 'Hammer' (& Tie Your Mother Down) - both epic rock tracks. Stil think that TYMD has one of the best guitar riffs ever recorded - truely awesome! Glad you enjoyed it & hope there's many more to come Cheers Dave -

Adrian (and Ralph) are both top blokes & I've done many a deal with them over the years - wouldn't hesitate to recommend them Cheers Dave

Just the best you can get!!!!!! From another fan - owner of 2 GB basses both built for me by Bernie, a 2003 rumour 4 followed by a 2006 Standard 4 (my main gigging bass since) Awesome basses, awesome builder!!!!! Cheers Dave

Easiest one you'll ever come across - 'A Merry Jingle' by the Greedies (A Thin Lizzy/Sex Pistols collaboration from the late 70's) - we play it every year and it always goes down well! Job done!! Cheers Dave
