1. That is an amazing price. Had one myself until recently. The build quality on the bass is superb. And like you say it plays very fast and feel great with the satin finish. It is also very light for a Warwick, with more of a rounder tone, but still distinctly warwick. Lovely lovely bass. Good luck with your sale, it should be snapped up at that price.

When I was in a band, I hardly bought anything and was happy with my sound.

Now I'm not, I'm still happy with my sound, but because I have some disposable income, I buy and sell a lot of (mainly used) gear. Everything can be sold on again, and if I end up making a loss I just see it as a rental fee in return for me getting to play with new toys all the time!

I want to join another band sometime this year, but I don't really have the time, I'm too busy messing around with different basses/amps/pedals! :D

This is exactly what has happened to me!

When I was playing I wasn't buying. Now I'm buying I'm hardly playing! I think the buying is a substitute for not being able to do the playing I would like. It must be done sort of comfort.

  3. What a great thread and it has really made me think about my own buying habits. Without thinking I would strongly say that I don't and haven't followed trends. But when I think about it I probably have very strongly followed trends without thinking! Before the internet I was definitely influenced by what I saw on tv and by what basses were actually in the shops. It's slightly different and more diverse these days, but again I still find myself taking an interest in what others are using and/or talking about on the net. Hmmmmm

  4. I like it. Is it better than the original? Probably not, as the original bass line is quite iconic. However, I quite like the fact that he has done something completely different. I've heard the original so many times that it was refreshing hear something different.

But like everyone else, his thumb scares me!

  5. I've subscribed to his pro memembship and it is well worth the money. The amount of material is phenomenal. Also, the pro membership enables you download the vids, the audio and transcriptions workbooks. There are two bonus courses thrown in as well. He also does regular bass hangs and the forum there is a pretty nice place to be. There lots of positive help from people. Scott and his awesome team frequently interact with you too. There is plenty going on and I only wish I had more time to use and practice the material. Either way it is a great and I thoroughly recommend.

  6. Coincidentally I have been having exactly the same thoughts as the OP. I've been setting my basses up and on one of them I can't get a decent action without fret buzz (when not amplified). This really bothered me for a while, but after asking around it seems my situation is quite normal. The next thing I was going to do, to try and reduce the buzz was get heavier gauge strings. But for now I'm experiment with a little buzz.

Watch the video of billy sheenan talking about his bass set up on YouTube. He says he doesn't like too much buzz. Then when he plays his bass at the end, it buzzes loads more than mine! So I'm figuring my action is not that low and the buzz not too bad!

I also asked this question of fret buzz to Scott Devine in one of his bass hangs. He plays his bass acoustically to give an idea of how his bass sounds. I know it is subjective, but it's good to have some bench marks.

  7.
From memory it's 10-6pm both days. What part of Wales are you travelling from? Last year we had an email about the offer, nothing this year so far bass wise
It complicated! I'd normally catch the train from Carmarthen (a pretty long train journey!), but on the Saturday I'm in Cardiff. However, I'm not sure the other half would approve of me disappearing on a planned day out! So I'm not sure I'm going to make it, but I really want to!

  8.
They had a cracking deal last year on G & L L2500 5 string basses RRP about £750. Got mine for about £450 plus a bag to take it home :-) might bring the empty bag this year you know, just in case :-D This year I'm catching the later train back on the Sunday to Port Talbot so I can go to both days, awesome :-) There isn't much time though between master classes and performances to go shopping..had to miss Guy Pratt last year so I could grab my bargain :-(
This is really temping me now!

Do you know what the opening and closing times are? I can't seem to seem them on the site....

  9. FOR SALE:

    Fender Flatwound Stainless Steel Strings 9050M (Medium) Long Scale - (.055, .070, .090, .105).

I bought these from amazon on Tuesday for £17.50. They arrived today and they've been on my p bass for 5 minutes. Having played round wound all my life, I was curious to try flatwounds. They sound good, but I just can take to how smooth the strings actually feel! So they have come straight off and literally have not been used. Obviously, the packaging has been opened and the string are twisted where they have been on the tuning pegs, but otherwise they are as good as new.

    I'm asking £10 which includes delivery :-)

  10. I've just bought a badass II bridge. I've noticed that the supplied screws seem to be longer that the screws that are holding down the existing bridge on my jazz bass (and this is taking into account the extra thickness of the badass bridge). They also seem a little thicker. Should I use these or stick with the original screws? I'm wary if I use the new screws it will make the existing holes bigger and then my original bridge may not fit back on, if I change it over again.

Only hearsay, but I understand that more recent MIMs are much better than previous years. I have played Classic 50s Precisions, Roadworn Precisions and Jazzes and they are all superb quality. Also the MIM signature models e.g. Roger Waters, Nate Mendel and Geddy Lee basses get a lot of love too.

I bought dannybuoy's road worn mim precision. It is superb and possibly my favourite bass at the moment. This is high praise (from me at least) because prior to this I thought I didn't like p basses at all!

Recently I tried an American 2013 standard p bass. It looked good, sounded good and was put together superbly. No faults or anything, but It wasn't my thing tho and I much preferred my road worn (I guess it is a love hate thing).

I guess like most people say, try before you buy, if possible.

  12. I think there are lots of articles out there saying it is virtually impossible to control the internet and it's information. The Ryan Giggs scandal for example. It seems the NSA are not even immune! So although I think there is a right and wrong, I think someone like prince could do so many more positive things than what he is doing now. As a fan I feel this is a dire shame.

  13. I was and I guess still am, a big fan of Prince's music. However, I'm not quite so sycophantic as a fanatic and realise a lot of his behaviour is very bizarre. I don't think he has lived in a normal world for a long time. His way of life (and I'm not talking about the money) seems so far removed from everyday people. Can he relate to a fan who is obsessed with and just wants to capture all his music? Who know's? Do I agree with the law suit? I haven't read all the details. However, I personally wouldn't illegally download something or knowingly commit a copyright theft. Is it within his rights to protect his art? I'm assuming so and I wouldn't knock anyone who stands up for their rights. I guess it is quite easy to bash Prince because of who he is and people assume he is a fair target because he is rich and famous.

All that aside I have often thought that there is a far more positive thing Prince could do. Many artist have the total right idea by making available all their live concerts and selling them at a reasonable price. With today's technology this is not difficult. Also he could easily make a lot of his unreleased stuff available. With his fan base and what I have read on other forums, I think they would be snapped up by his loyal fans. It seems a win win and I don't know why he doesn't do it. So many artists with a lot less material do an excellent job of engaging their fans. One person I've spoke thinks it his artistic prerogative to do what he likes. Which is fair enough, but I still think he is missing a trick
