1. I've seen this bass before. It is beautiful Don. If only it were a 5 string eh?
2. Because a lot of bands and their egos simply suck and because they are sick of playing 12 bar blues crap all evening at the local jamsessions where guitarplayers keep playing never ending solos on the same theme all night every week.
3. Nice thread and welcome to the 2010's. I already knew and admire 5 out of these 10 great players, MarloweDK probably being the most wel known contributing bassist of this time. The internet and youtube in particular has become my number one resource for learning new techniques and songs. I think it is totally brilliant we can watch and learn from guys like this, MarloweDK (who's real name is Thomas Risell by the way) has a clear way of explaining new techniques that can be understood by both new and experienced players. His website playbassnow.com is one of the greatest resources available for any learning bassist and highly recommended. Another great bassist sharing knowledge is a person you can also find on this forum. His name is Scott Devine and he runs scottsbasslessons.com. Also highly recommended! One more note: Chris Squire cannot be copied. He is a virtuoso. You can play the same licks but it will never sound the same. Miguel comes close I do agree but no, he's not there yet.
4. Check. http://shop.warwick.de/?&c=35352310036&lang=en&smk=1&modul=shop&site=shop_overview_2&nm=D0405358001321517424A43801%7CWarwick&article_category=D0405358001321517424A43801 Bridges, tuners, knobs, the works really.
5. Bump Edit: Sorry for bumping within the allowed time period. Thanks for making me aware of this Mick!
6. Best in what exactly? Tone? Durability? Weight? Specs? Amount of roadies killed by? What a rubbish thread.
7. Doug Pinnick is 62 and still one of the coolest bassists on the planet imho. Don't worry lads age is not the issue. Behaviour is so get out there and behave like a little kid with a really big toy (talking about your bass here). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eX9YouDpaHU A real problem I'm facing is most of my musician buddies started having lives beside the music (wifes, kids, homes, jobs to tend to) and it gets harder to get together. Where I used to ring up my buds saying "let's jam tonight" nowadays its "can we jam in three weeks time?" I am currently 44 years old. I miss kinda the pontaneousness of it all, everything has to be "organized" these days...
8. January 2013 incarnation of my board. Need to run the wires underneath, will do so once I am happy with the layout for sure.
9. Right. I decided I am holding on to this bass for sentimental reasons only but I never play it anymore these days so... it is time to find a better master for this great instrument. FYI I only don't play this bass because I have a five string Dolphin Pro 1 as well har har har. Since it is a 24 year old instrument it has its little marks from being used but is in remarkably good condition. There's a few marks just above the pickups from where previous owners rested their thumb and near the lower horn there's some bumps as can be seen in the pictures. The electronics cover has a little bump, which is in the photos as well. Asking price is 1400 euros including flightcase and a new set of DR Low-Riders 0.45 gauge strings. Will ship to anywhere in the world IF shipping with insurance is possible. Costs (and possibly taxes if you're not within the EU mainland) being payed for by the buyer. I am by the way located in the Netherlands, shipping to the UK costs 40 euros and 80 cents. As pictures say more then a thousand words here goes: And here's a little clip I recorded with it for the Warwick forum "Can you do it?" thread: I am not really interested in trade offers. Cheers, Marco
10. Hold on I'll throw in my '89 Warwick Dolphin to make life easier on the lot of you and forget all the crappy JV's.
11.
remember dudes, it may be our place to find out history and stuff that has happened to this so its clear for a potential buyer to see but its not our place to take the piss or say his price is too high. things like that should be done over PM so he doesnt get a public flogging. is this not the usual procedure?
If all is within reason, yes. If the seller is clearly trying to do some gold diggin' by all means speak up people. Besides that floods of PM's will be more annoying then some criticism in a thread tbh. Also this way the bass gets free bumpage all the time! So in a way we're doing a good deed. If anybody wants to buy this special bass at asking price please do so.
12.
If you can find a streamer with this specs a tag of £1000, buy then!
What, all of them? I have nothing to say about the modifications made since that is entirely up to personal taste. Your asking price however is VERY utterly and insanely ridiculous. Just my 2p.
13. As great basses like Warwick neckthru models are fairly cheap on the secondhand market a lot of people can afford playing one. This is a good thing for the players and the brand name. You honestly think I'd pay around 4.5k to 5k euro for a Dolphin or Streamer 5 string when I can get a used one for way under the 2k mark? Niche basses drop in value by 50% or more soon as you walk out of the shop doors, regular basses like an american built J or P, Ric 4003 only drop a little and their value remains pretty much steady until they become regarded as 'vintage'.
14. "a real bass has four strings" is something I usually get when visiting the local jamsessions. The guitarist saying that then usually proceeds to play an hour lasting solo while demanding I stick to the root notes of his 12 bar blues scheme... The pale looks on their faces is usually nothing short of EPIC when you pull a 5 or 6 string non-lined fretless out of your gigbag. ;-) Times have changed my dear guitardists and no a bass player is not someone who failed at playing guitar. Our instrument (electric bass guitar) and its role in modern music as evolved SO much over the last 3 or 4 decades! I believe even more so then ANY other instrument. Anyone who tells you otherwise is simply trying to force his own limitations onto you. Stay away from such people as much as you can. I LOVE using effects, they can be a great source of inspiration and bring a unique atmosphere to the music. As with everything in music it is not wat you use but how you use it.
15. Over the top. But then I despise all worn/faded/relic looks on instruments. Its kinda like wearing spandex on stage - NOT DONE.
16. I have a small clone here but never use it for bass as I feel it is too hefty. The pedal might simply not be fit for what you want.
17.
Any comments, advice to alternatives, encouragement really appreciated!
I am not a bad person, just kindly answering as I am asked to.
18. Reaper kept crashing on my win7 64bit system. I ended up purchasing Cubase Artist 6.5 which is simply awesome software imho.
19. W bridges from the mid nineties are terrible. The gaps are simply to small! The 5 and 6 string versions are also prone to collapse under the force of the strings. I drilled my B string side to make the gap bigger but ended up deciding to just get a new bridge. The current ones are a lot better and do not have these problems at all.
20. Herro. Here's my almost full board: Signal chain:

Korg pitchblack tuner
EHX microPOG
MXR M80+ OD/EQ
EHX Bass Big Muff
MXR M82 envelope filter
EHX Worm in phaser mode
Boss RT-20 Leslie cabinet modeller with overdrive (this thing is ace!)
Akai Head Rush R2 delay/looper
Markbass Compressore
21. Haha drama drama drama! New warwick basses are priced pretty high, lately for some reason prices on them skyrocketed. As they are niche basses the good thing is on the second hand market prices are much more realistic and steady. I bought all my Warwicks used, makes me able to sell one and buy another every once in a while without losing too much money.
22. As music is almost purely emotion, you shouldn't be wanting to justify desiring to play it on a wonderful and inspiring instrument imho. I bought my rickenbacker because I have been dreaming of sounding like Chris Squire for years! It doesn't have to make sense its only human...
23. Check out Tech21 vtbass and MXR M80 vids on the toob. I haven't regretted buying the mxr for a second. Best pedal I have!
24. I have been on the Warwick forum for a couple of years now and haven't seen anyone else with a five string Pro1 in there besides One fella who owns a broadneck bartolini fit pro1 from 1991. This sounds a lot less growly then the normal five string though... I owned a broadneck fretless dolphin which I flogged a couple of weeks ago. Here's some eyecandy.
