Ashdown MAG 600 EVOiii Price Drop £125 - *SOLD*

Eastar alto saxophone. Great instrument, excellent play, well engineered with nice tone and good ergonomics. Lacquer's good too. Don't be put off by the price. Check out Google for seriously positive reviews by respected pundits like Better Sax and Saxologic. Comes with a mouthpiece, lig, reed and case. Pretty much as new condition and not long ago checked and fettled by pro sax tech. Collection from mid Anglia preferred but could post as I have a box for an extra £25.

Thanks to a bit of excellent serendipitous salesmanship on the part of Mr Merton I will soon be the possessor of a second RM 210T cab, unleashing thunderbolts of Ashy sound on my fandom. Not because Uncle Bulgaria's wrong, but because in one weekend I just earned enough gig fees to be able to afford it. And second bass cabilules are more important than food.

Currently got an Ashdown MAG 300 evo ii head going into an 8 ohm Ashdown RM 210 cab. Playing in a rock band at smaller pub gigs, and I'm having turn both gain and volume right up, adding the bass and top end boost and a bit of compression to be heard. Now, should I get a more powerful head (eg 600) so I get more headroom with one cab I've got. Or should I get a second cab to pull a tad more power out of the head I have and double the number of oomph makers?

Money. Now I'm retired the days of Barefaced stacks are gone. Sadly too is the Markbass line up, by far my favourite sound with the right EQ. Now I'm an Ashdown player because to my mind its the best trade off between size, sound, tone and price. Plus the sound is ideal for my current band, which plays blue rock from the early sixties. But a lottery win (always my benchmark) would have me back knee- deep in yellow.

Got Entwhistle PXBN on my Revelation. Have GAS for alternative. Anyone experience of DiMarzio - bright, dark, thin, noisy, silent , lovely, not lovely? I'm seeing all these thoughts in posts.

I'm sorry but I don't understand how they're doing it at these prices. Ashdown 1x15 for £132 inc taxes and import and cartage? So less than £100 net of the extras. New. Nice, but almost in the category of "if it seems too good to be true..."

Phil Jones Double Four...Good things do come in small packages!
lownote replied to jd56hawk's topic in Amps and Cabs
Phil Jones is a god. I'm just coming out of PJB ownership but not because I didn't like his stuff, just fancied a change and a more cost-effective downsize. Go for it. -
... money wise and still have a quality gigrig? I'm currently at £150 each for the bass, head and cab (Revelation fretless, Ashdown 300 Evo 2 head and 210 RM cab). My saxes push values up a bit but even they're not dear.

I dropped my MB head, after which it would occasionally have a fizzing fit. I suspected unseated componentry. A bloke in Norwich was recommended. He examined the head thoughfully from all angles, waggled the knobs and went out of the room, returning with a length of 2x4. There followed what cricketists like top call the sound of leather on willow, or in this case wood on Marbass's finest casing material. He handed the head back to me, charged me £30 and it worked fine. NFN.

Ashdown touchdown any hour now. 2x10, nice and light. My inner 8 year old is very excited.

Can I ask a fundamental question here? Was the technical mod that gave rise to all this axshirley necessary? Or have I just become a boring grumpy old git? [sigh] I won't run a poll, I'm sure the answers to both questions will be 'yes'. -
I doan like it. No real reason, just doan. Maybe it's cos my eyes are going and I have to strain harder with all that black. Please keep it as an option. If you make it the default I'm off.

Markbass tends to be marmite. I loved the sound, some others don't. I'm a recent convert to Ashdown. Great sound, great build, easy to repair...

I think the reason is that if your nut height is very low or non-existent the strings touches down on the fingerboard over an extended length so buzzes, effectively. Having it a bit higher means the string only touches the board where you're pressing it down, giving a cleaner more conventional note.

Fretless isn't hard... only the thought of it is. You have nothing to fear but fear itself, young Jedi. Even unlined. Scott Devine recommends lined. Unlined is fine and more satisfying knowing you're crafting your music rather than playing by numbers. Don't be seduced into having your strings too low at the nut. That entrancing mwah sound becomes very tiresome after a short while. With a nut height of around 0.3mm your f'less will sound like a normal bass - just nicer and more creative. My Revelation costs under £200 new [Bass Gallery, London].

Squier Precision Affinity new model 2021 - Sound Test
lownote replied to dave84's topic in Bass Guitars
Yus but £240 in 1983 is £828 today according to the Bank of England. A bass you buy now for £240 is already pretty good. Add a KiOgon loom for £30 and you're having a giraffe. My Revelation fretless P bass is all I need now - less than £200 new and didn't need fettling.- 27 replies

I currently have a PJB Cab 27. Awesome tone and depth. Not sure about ability to fill Wembley but you don't need that. Cheap for what they are (2x7" 200w).

Eastar alto sax. Great instrument, don't be put off by the price. It may be Chinese but an excellent play, well engineered with nice tone and good ergonomics. Laquer's good too. Google for seriously positive reviews by pundits like Better Sax and Saxologic. Comes with a mouthpiece (NOT the SYOS orange one shown), lig, reed or two and case. I'm keeping the stand. Bought new, only selling to upgrade. Pretty much as new condition and not long ago checked over by pro sax tech. Collection only (mid Anglia), but might be able to post for £25 extra at your risk if I can find a box. I am persuaded it's hardly worth sellling, but well worth keeping as a backup. So I'm taking it off sale. But if you read this post infuture and want to talk, feel free to message me.

All this jolly badinage is just helping a cunning plot to lure us into acquiescence. Badges are the work of satan. To quote Gandalf "flee you fools, this is an enemy beyond any of you".
