Badges! We don't need no stinking badges!
lownote replied to Newfoundfreedom's topic in General Discussion
I once ran a training course hosted in Notts Forest’s trophy room because it was the only venue available. When the caretakery bloke showed me through he asked me which team I supported. When I said I couldn’t give a toss about football you’d have thought I’d confessed to shagging his missis. Probably worse actually. -

Dunno. I expect there was a certain amount of sleeping with the enemy went on during the Civil War. -

At least you can't be kicked out of BC for not cleaning your shoes or having your woggle on crooked - or can you? -

Can I say how offended I am by the connotation in Community Regular that I am somehow unspecial. -

Me too. But perhaps it's not seemly to have my Supporting Member in too close propinquity to a mooning woman. -

and 'Supporting Member'. What's all that about? There are plenty of people who think I am a 'member' without BC joining in the abuse. It's ridiculous and sounds like I'm congratulating myself for paying up to advertise. And these STUPID badges are against the whole spirit of BC, where newbies and experienced members could chat without being ranked or being conscious of each other's 'status'. Please get rid. Edit: Just how stupid this is is shown by my having apparently earned a 'Great Content' badge for posting this!- 492 replies

Do you have a supportive partner and is it important?
lownote replied to Cat Burrito's topic in General Discussion
My wife is hugely supportive. Unfortunately my talent doesn't rise to the challenge. And with GAS it can be an issue. A typical GAS conversation may take an unintuitive turn: Me: I could do with a new (bass/sax/head/ amp / mouthpiece). I need this because... Mrs Lownote: Not need to justify it. If you want it, buy it. Me: I can't. We haven't the money and there are bills to pay / rainy days to forfend/ etc.. . Mrs L: No really, buy it. You come this way but once. Me: Nnnnnoooooooo...... -

I wish you luck. It can literally be that. My very first teacher (a very good player) showed me how to do a double stop and then played at me pretty much for the rest of the lesson. Nil point. My second teacher told me I was a natural and didn't need him. Nil point. My third teacher was Scott Devine - who was brilliant. But he's online. I have had several face to face lessons since and they've all been awful. So as I say - good luck. I'm sure there must be a good teacher out there, its just I never found him/her.

I bought a bass with Dunlop flats on it and will seek no other. Just right for me.

Toby bought a cab off me. Nice guy. Great comms, no hassles whatsoever. Deal with confidence.

When I joined quite a few years ago I brought with me the name Lownote from SBL. I seem to remember the system insisted I could only be Lownote12. But I've never seen Lownotes 1-11 on here. Is there any way I can drop the 12 and just become Lownote?

Loaded with two custom Lavoce 12" drivers, this robust cab is a bit of steal for the sound you get. This one has seen a few car boots in its time, so don't expect a new cab but overall it's in OK condition and works fine. Bought this for a band opportunity that didn't come to anything. Light at 23 kg or 50lbs. Collection or local delivery only, central East Anglia (near Diss).

There are times I think too much, and this is one of them. But I'd say there's a difference between being the most rubbish person in the band and thinking you're the most rubbish person in the band. I have always thought myself to be the most rubbish until it slowly became clear to me that I was at least on a par with the others. But as others have said, thinking you're the most rubbish is an excellent strategy to have.

The markers are on the note, and you only get the main markers - 'frets' 3, 5, 7, 9, 12, 15, etc. Check your markers against a good tuner: for some reason my 12th marker(s) was out by a centimetre, although the others were all accurate. I had this checked by Bass Gallery who expertly 'moved' the markers by drilling and filling. I would also factor in fitting a KiOgon solder-less loom, which massively upgrades the wiring.

Markbass Mini CMD121P or Fender Rumble 500 - help!
lownote replied to Duroc17's topic in Amps and Cabs
I adore the Markbass sound, can't speak for the Fender. But what i would say is when discussing sound types and quality, a huge amount of change is possible if you really sit down with the EQ and play with it seriously, both inside and outside the box. I couldn't get MB to work for me until by chance I brushed the EQ knobs with my hand, sending them all over the place - and quite accidentally achieved exactly the sound I wanted. I don't think I'd ever had managed it without that accident, because they're not logical or conventional settings. So if you do experiment, try every combination to see what it does. And I found the MB filter knobs helped me get sounds I couldn't with the conventional EQ controls on their own. YMMV and IMHO. (FYI, my settings are (in o'clocks) Bass 12, Low mids 11, high mids 10, treble 9, then the filters on 8 and 10, or 10 and 8: can't remember which filter knob was which setting. You may not like it, I find it works perfect for me with a P bass.) -
Can I file nut with needle files or sandpaper?
lownote replied to kwmlondon's topic in Repairs and Technical
Hmm, I tried that once and found it very very difficult to get the right see- saw motion with string while keeping a grip on the sandpaper. I then used needle files and found them pretty good if you're really careful. It may just be easier and not that expensive to get a pro to do. Or do what i did on the my fourth project and that's buy some proper files and then sell them for not much less than I paid. -
I have the chance to purchase one of these to go with my Ashdown 300MAG head. I have eh-eh experience of TC's cheaper BC cabs (OK at low volumes, more brash and rubbish at high) and wondered what folk with experience thought of the K? It's really a choice of my Phil Jones Cab 27 v the K212.
