  1. I have always been a kind of introverted teen. And fact that i came back from 6 years of life in french Guyana in my birth country when i was 15 years old, i was completely disconnected from french life, "codes and rules" that were driving teens by this time. A lot of them even didn't know that french Guyana was existing. So I was like an alien for all others at school and they were all aliens to me too. That made me more introverted, living in my dreams. Then few years later, with one of very few friends i've had, we decided to start playing guitar. (Our fathers had each an old beaten guitar they didn't used since their teens ... ) And this first contact with an instrument has been a changing life day for me. I never stopped since. Started at 18 years old; i'm now 53. One of my two bands sank in july. The other one is like a zombie: sometimes he's living few days for one or two gigs, and then go back in the grave for 6 months. But i don't wait after it to stay in the game: I took a lot of pleasure and fulfilment by simply playing my bass. Noodling, transcribing, learn some ways to play to improve my musicianship. All is good as soon as i can play. It's my best medecine, and my fuel for life. And plan to continue until my body stop me.
  2. Very graphic result. I dig it.
  3. I discover the Michel Petrucciani with Anthony Jackson. I realize i was only knowing him playing with Michel Camilloand Hiromi.. A shame ! This live in Tokyo is my main listening since few days.
  4. Jazz female singers are divas. (Ok, only based on my small experience )
  5. A P/J version please 🤪
  6. This bass is a gem ! Awesomeness. Congrats !
  7. One of my favorite:
  8. 😞 Sad day... Just look at him play has made me re-start all my right hand technic from A to Z. I discovered him really with Hiromi and the trio project, and had the chance to see them live. What a music lesson... RIP Mr Jackson and thank you for all..
  9. One other way you can try is the Molly Gerbrian book named "learn faster perform better". She's pro musician and neuroscience PhD. Her approach about learning the better way to optimize efficiency of brain recording is really interesting and helpfull.
  10. Agree. Music is an Art. To me everybody playing music is an artist and a musician, as i don't associate "values" or "status" in these words, so not feel it as pretentious. Remains me this question: Are you a player or a musician ? .. Even if playing cover note for note, we all have our own and unique way to play it, and we put our emotion in this playing. It's our artist part. We all are artist. And it's not a pride source for me, more a everyday happiness source.
  11. I've always been a fingers player. But since i've revised entirely my right hand technic based on Anthony Jackson one, i've discovered and added the pick to my bass playing (as guitarist in a previous life, i was aware of these strange little things) I discovered, as mimicking Anthony that it could be a real boost during more energetic moments in tunes; plus having new shades of tones in my playing. But i needed it to be easy to catch and let down during tunes cause i would like to be able to use it for some parts of tunes. As i've had a pick with small magnet inside from my guitarist life, an idea popped in my head: where could i add a magnet on my bass for my magnetic pick to stay available easily ? Second problem was the pick brand didn't exist anymore. I found a end-of-stock of 3 more on the web but that was all. So after some search, i found a manufacturer from Italy that has created picks with the same basic idea except he added some metal rings in picks instead of magnets: https://www.m-picks.com/fr/magnetik-picks.html And here are the pics: mine are 0.75 but he proposes different thickness and shapes. The bass magnet is from somewhere on asian websites, and has been bonded with double side thin tape
  12. I would like to hear this awesome chord with this capo 😂
  13. With Zarbo, Afro ska band: With Adhoc 4tet: contemporary jazz. Dead last july ..
  14. Excellent book which have changed my way of practice, more efficient during the same practice time.
  15. Next month i will have the chance to see Hiromi's sonicwonder at 45 minuts driving from home. I'm an absolue fan of her actual band and can't wait to live this moment.
  16. Sorry prototype = sorry half price (if you want to keep it like this). For this money, i would return it for retrofit (correct sanding before painting eveywhere on the bass, re-do the painting, perfect electronic working..)
  17. I have the chance to be able to play at minimum one hour per week day, often an hour and half. And a little more on the weekend. I've no kids, my wife ones are long gone to live their life, and she understand that my needs are good for my mental health. In fact she's supporting me in all that i do, as i do my best to support all that is good for her. She's my precious.
  18. I followed Lobster advice on my Sire U5 with hipshot 1/2 ultra lite and it worked perfectly.
  19. Send them a request. Perhaps they already have received some. Their P pickup is really good on the U5.
  20. I'm in. At first it was not a real choice: i was playing at home with a Fender acoustic CB60-SCE, and was really happy to be able to play without plugging anything, at correct level to follow music from my stereo. It's 80 % of my playing time; at one hour minimum rate per day. But i'm getting older now and a pain started to arrive in my right shoulder and prevent me to play my acoustic bass due to shoulder position with the acoustic body thickness. My osteo-therapist explained my shoulder has 30 years of bad position playing when seat and advices to change it to the classical guitarist position: bass between my legs, laying on my left leg, 45° angle neck, shoulder without any tension. Problem is with my 34" basses, weight it not comfort and F note on my E string become hard to stay on for my left shoulder.. So after small search in the internet bass galaxy, short scale idea popped in my head. So i looked a lot of vids and listened sounds, read reviews, etc; and finally gone for a Sire U5. I quickly changed tuners for ultralite hipshot ones; that removed completely the slight neck dive. I just had to file a little fret edges : The Sire process for rounded frets is very good but let some small rawness on the edge sides And what i can say: it's the best bass for the price i never had... This bass is ridiculously good, comfort and playability awesome, a really good tone with stock pickups. I have it since May, previoulsy dedicated to my house playing only. Few months after i can say she's entered in my A-Team and took the first rank. I can't wait to rehearse and play outside with. It's really a shock for me that sounds like a before/after moment. When i think i've paid 437 euros + 102 euros for hipshot licenced tuners; and she sounds like a 1000/1500 euros bass; this is the best money i spent for musical instrument since 30 years.. And to welcome her in my A-Team, i even build her a ramp So i think my 34" basses will get out less.
  21. My very last pedal: Keeley bassist. It became the only pedal i put between bass and amp; so it's really my last pedal. After a life switching from pedalboard with pedals to multieffect unit to new pedalboard with other pedals to new multieffect unit to ..etc etc ; i've reached the end of this road with this pedal. It's just adding some extra-clarity to my tone, something magic. And i don't need anything else. I've build this mini-pedalboard to protect her from our crazy guitarist which jump all over the place without paying attention to anything. . But i don't use it anymore, as i finally put the pedal on the top of my amp as it's always ON.
