1. If you download this pdf to music software which is free, it'll play the pdf bass line solo. You can slow it down too. http://www.myriad-online.com/en/products/pdftomusic.htm
  2. Some more help if anyone needs it is here... Not perfect but it's a good help as you can hear him over the mix.
  3. Just in case anyone can't wait... I found this taster the other day and added it to my faves. I love Sting's sound on this, it's so different from his Spector days. I also have this on my faves and I think it proves that Copeland is the man! When people talk about playing ahead of and behind the beat they can't go far wrong listening to this stuff to get a feel for it.

Nice one, Tim! Production's really nice on that - loving Infection too. Which songs did you use the Blazer on?
  5. Here's some, I'm sure Martin won't mind... It's a fantastic bass and turned me on to Lakland and 5-strings.
  6.
my opinion is on ashdown gear . if its older gear it is uk built which was exspensive to buy new and is a lot better than prc made so anyone who is into ashdown gear will buy /sell at a price they now they could get or are prepared to pay.i would pay £400 for uk built 4years old than i would £500 new made in prc for example.same with ampeg, peavey etc.mainly applies to heads and combo's.
Dude, some punctuation and a nod toward standard English syntax would be much appreciated. That post is utter garbage.
  7.
Take any jazz standard that you know the melody of (e.g. My Favourite Things) and then listen to the performance whilst keeping that melody going in your head. As the players take it away from the familiar theme, you will be able to hear a relationship between the tune you know and the solo. Eventually, you will be able to do this having only heard the main themes once and then you will really get a sense of what it is all about.
Here's an easy one: Miles Davis doing Time After Time, surely this is accessible to anyone? Enjoy
  8. How is the strap supposed to attach to that hook? Any ideas?
  9.
It's a community so there are more subtle things going on than a straightforward sale and purchase.
+1 I know that some people find it irritating but it's a fantastic luxury for people who are unsure of what something is worth or whether or not anyone would be interested in what they have. Also in the case of obscure or collectible stuff it solicits nuggets of info and assistance from other people in the know who may be able to help you sell something. I know many people on here who have been in two minds about keeping an instrument and have found a great trade by putting out feelers.
  10.
the ATK range is around 50 squids more than your budget, but is an awesome bass for the money
+1 I have one and it is fantastic. I did a review it on it here I'd definitely buy another and I'd sell my grandmother for a US ATK but that's another story.
  11. Check out this thing that should never have been allowed.
  12.
Lakland DJ4. Great basses. You're done!
What he said. I've tried 'em all and now I have two DJs, you really can't beat them with a stick in that price category. The Joe Osbourne model is just as good but a different vibe.
  13. Those Squier Vintage Jazz basses are gorgeous and by all accounts very well made. With Ibanez you can't really go wrong - that one will have a fantastic neck and the pre-amp coupled with those Bartolini (?) soapbars will make it even more versatile than the Squier. If I was buying with my ears, I'd probably go for the Ibanez and if it's all about cool, then it's the Squier. I don't know anything about the other one. Of course £250 gets you a hell of a lot more second hand...
  14.
I've got a Hohner B2A (I think that's the type, need to check that) headless 4 string in black and white. I've used it live before, but not for a few years. It's great to have as a back up with you, and also very protable.
Just bitten the bullet and pushed the button on one of these for travelling abroad. Initial impressions are good, I might do a review later in the week.
  15. Great service - I don't go anywhere else.
  16. Unliek some great bass playing, our discussions are rarely "in the pocket"!
  17. Look at this on ebay http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...em=180302196295 £268??? New ones are £329! In answer to the OP - yes, they are definitely back.
  18.
This is the only headless I've ever hankered after. Can't find any of the buggers mind you...
I've been looking for one of those for ages and finally gave up yesterday. I just ordered a new Hohner B2A for traveling abroad and for taking to work to practise at lunchtime in the car. I played one a good few years ago and thought it was superb for what it is. They are made by Cort in Korea and the quality is excellent. I see them going new for £379 and upward on ebay and £479 at Thomann but I managed to get a bargain, even the second hand ones fetch silly money so I'd guess that they are having a comeback. Don't see many bands with them though.
  19. I had a PLEK set up done on a Deluxe Fender Jazz FMT at CCGX and it was OK but I wouldn't go back. It cost £120 I think.
  20.
I see this is back on ebay again...the overseas bidder pulled out on paying the £1400...so not so good after all.
Yeah, or that's what he said. I saw this Ibanez freakbass that was relisted after being won for £140 by one bidder. I think the "unforseen circumstances" are pretty obvious. There's a lot of it about. Obviously I could be completely wrong and the lister could have been stiffed by the bidder. I agree that at the moment good stuff is maintaining its value where the middle level stuff is dropping off.
  21.
What a tit.
+1000 - Basschat understatement of 2008 so far.
  22.
How do you fill all these enormous venues playing original material btw? I must know the secret.
I think it helps when the original material in question is so damn good - I was singing along first listen Rich harmonies help loads too.
  23.
My money is in a Markbass LMK. Takes some beating for sound, power, weight, size, features and money.
+1
  24. Last two days... Jackie Wilson's Lifting Me Higher (or whatever it's called) - one riff all the way through! Fleetwood Mac's Go Your Own Way Kirsty MacColl's New England Sugar Pie Honey Bunch by the Four Tops Nothing challenging there other than actually concentrating on getting them learned for Thursday's rehearsal and not being distracted by that transcription of The Real Me in this month's BGM.
  25.
He's from Belfast, Ireland. And yes he is great and has helped me out a lot playing wise.
Just for our American friends, Belfast is in Northern Ireland which is part of the UK's constitutional monarchy. It is not in the Republic of Ireland, which is an independent nation. My Irish ancestry gets pedantic about this stuff so please excuse me. Dave Marks' walking bass stuff is fantastic and for me it explains the concept in way that is much easier to grasp than say, Ed Friedland or Gary Willis. Dave's site says there's a lot of new content on the way soon so keep an eye on it.
