1.
I think I may turn to the comparatively expensive 'virtual batteries' for it.
What are virtual batteries?
 2. http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=ip1zsUIosoA - try this one, it's stunning. Live from 1981 in Houston. Perry's voice is killer and so passionate. I learned it for our band (girl singer) and hadn't heard it since I was a kid. I love the way they end it.
 3.
Drummers have chops?
Ours has pork chops, every Tuesday when he gets in from work!
 4. I was out at Tesco at 1am today getting batteries for the Tone Hammer which arrived yesterday. I managed to get it plugged in and have a play before I was too sparked out to care. It's extremely well made, has a superb quality feel, it's a great colour and is easy to use. I sounds exactly as I wanted it to and has a great range of sounds. I'll try and record some clips this evening, maybe some dry and some wet.
 5.
There's been one other thread about the Tonehammer in this forum I think. Didn't reach a massive size. Now Talkbass on the other hand.
Loads of chat on talkbass about the Tonehammer. I tried an AG500 a while back and it sounded great - once I knew the TH was the preamp part of that then it became a logical choice for a good DI/Pre-amp especially since I never got on with my SansAmp and didn't like the (overcomplicated for me) MBII. Sadowsky DIs are pretty good but not me. Anyway, sodding thing still hasn't arrived for one reason or another and not entirely anyone's fault but I'm told it's arriving tomorrow. I have the poor lad that has lessons with me coming round within minutes of me getting in from work and then I'm out afterwards so it'll be Friday before I have the chance to have a play with it (ooh err missus!).
 6. Dave, If you can wait til next year the 5-string Bob Glaub is out!
 7.
I'm more interested in the AGS than what the EBS has to offer, personally.
I was very disappointed in the EBS and it's got way too many things going on - I like simple things.
 8.
i think il wait until bassmerchant have them back in stock rather than paying an extra £50 for being impatient!
Oh, give me some credit, I didn't come in on the last boat! I paid £149 from The Gallery. I asked them to price match, which they did with no hesitation.
 9.
I was going to order one tonight ¬_¬
What happened? I ordered one from Alex at The Bass Gallery - will be here Monday.
 10.
I'm always away with work and i've got the Aria Sinsonido bass. It's pretty lightweight, breaks down to basically a fretboard and headphones plug straight into it. I use the Line 6 guitar port thing too and think it's great.
Do you take this on the plane as hand luggage or in a suitcase or what? I saw one go on ebay last week for £220 and was contemplating but know nothing of them. I've got an 24' iMac so it's a bit difficult taking it with me but I'm going to check out those Phobia programs, cheers.
 11.
just don't play bass for a week???
That's never going to happen! Maybe you can get patches like for smokers trying to give up. It's an idea...
 12. Cheers for the ideas. Everything we've been told about South Africa is negative and everyone tells horror stories so I'm not really looking forward to it much. I think I'll be stuck in the hotel quite a bit watching Ashes to Ashes and Life On Mars on my iPod. I've just found some books on Amazon that might pass the time while I'm away... Amazon
 13. Bass Merchant tells me that they have sold all six they had, surely five of them haven't gone to non-BCers? Anyone else?
 14. I'm off on a trip to South Africa for a week and then there's a few more week-long trips planned over the coming months but I've decided after much umming and ahhing to not buy a headless/bodyless bass (Hohner/Steinberger thingy). What stuff can I do without my bass while I'm away? One thing I thought of was to take my little metronome and some sheet music and play the rhythms along to the clicks. Does anyone have any tips for what they do when they haven't got their bass with them for long periods?
 15. Still here. Cracking bass. Gig bag, gold PG, original pups + bridge all included.
 16.
Can't get those to work - is it me? Pics look good though.
Dunno. Works OK for me. Anyone got them working?
 17. Here are some hurriedly recorded sound files of the two different Lakland Darryl Jones basses. DJ with Aeros DJ with Chi's The DJ with Chi's has got Lakland Steel strings and the Aero DJ has got DR Peacock Blue Long Life strings. Both volumes and tone up full on both basses.
 18.
Extremely cool. Is it a one-off or from a production run? I can find no mention of it apart from here. Also is it a Skyline?
Yes, it is a Skyline and it was a limited edition (a run of 20 or 30, not exactly sure) that didn't have an official name but was known as the "Clayton" DJ or AC/DJ. I found out about it back in May when I was talking to Lakland about a new DJ and they mentioned this one that was in the pipeline. I ordered it the first week of June and it arrived yesterday. The pickups were an addition that I ordered (there are two with Chi's) and I'm so glad I went for the Chi-Sonics, they are incredible. I'll record some MP3s tomorrow and I'll A/B it with the Aero DJ. It's a very different beast to the Aero DJ. As an aside: They are now doing a Chi-Sonic P pickup that looks completely traditional but has all the Chi magic (whatever it is, it's good) - It's standard on all P basses from now on.
 19.
Who owns this one then?
Me.
 20. Good to see you back, Chris.
 21.
So what's the story with this then?
Apparently it started as an idea on TB to have a special DJ made (like the DPLE ones previously done) that was identical to Adam Clayton's one - I don't think there was enough interest for it to go ahead but as I understand it, Dan Lakin thought it would be a good idea and they went ahead and did it. To the best of my knowledge there are two of these with Chi-Sonic pups. Interestingly this DJ has no binding and no "Darryl Jones" signature on the headstock. It also has 250 Ohm pots whereas the Aero ones have 500 Ohm pots. What pots do the Fralin ones have?
 22. The "proper" DJ has the signature on the headstock and is blue.
 23. Craziness!
 24.
Is that a Gotoh Bridge that I see? its very similar to it and the new HMV fender bridges...
I can't remember what make the bridge is but it's high mass, fits in the original holes and improves the sustain brilliantly. It's quite a bit chunkier than the HMV bridges and very similar to the ones used on a Sadowsky.
