You've come to the right place Come in and make yourself at home!

Seeing that hasn't quelled my dirty little desire to have Lakland PJDJ4 done, in fact knowing that Shuker can do it almost makes it silly not to. Well that's next year's little project sorted then!
here's a design close to but not the same as my strap the concept is the same but my elasticated part is in a different place and the build quality might be slightly higher, the company mine was from also did heavy weight distributing full leather strap as well whivch the website linked doesn't. padded strap similar to mine but not quite
More than likely a Strapp. I use 'em. Some peopel sell 'em badged up with their own logo I think. It's a gem. Much better than the Korean reissues by all accounts and black/black/maple. It's got a great no nonsense, "get out of my way" look about it. They are a tad heavy from what I remember so those of you who suffer back pain watch out. Go on, you know it makes sense.

I'm sure those weren't there when we started the gig...
Superglue them. Pop and squirt some into the hole.
+100 I've been doing it regularly and you get so much respect from pussy guitarists and bitchboy horn section players who think you are so "hardcore" , bless 'em. -

I've never liked the quilt top Laklands very much - the back of the body is stunning but overall I wouldn't give it houseroom.

Good to have you back in the gang, Zoe. That's one hell of a cool avatar action shot you got there!

After Blue Darryl's first night at rehearsal last night I know I won't be fitting a J-Retro. For me it doesn't need it, I love the sound of these Aeros through my GK. We went through It's Raining Men (camp? who sir? me sir? no sir!), We Are Family, Blame it on the Boogie and I Want You Back and this bass sounds right. I broke one of our big rules last night because I just couldn't stop slapping the thing between songs but the guys are pretty understanding about new toys; I know I won't get away with it next week!
Nice one Sean. I like the purple strings too.
They're actually pink ones, Dave. I ordered Purple Passion but they got lost in the post from the USA and the nice chap sent me some pink ones instead which show up as purple anyway which makes me think what the purple ones look like!

I picked this up at the weekend. It's a 2003 model with Aero pickups. It came with a hard Gator case which is the best case I've had by far and it also came with schaller straplocks and a beautiful Levy's extra-wide black leather strap which is beautifully soft. The bass weighs in at 8.75 lbs which is pretty light and about half way between it's 44-02 and 55-02 stable mates. I'll put some better pics up at the weekend when I can get some natural light. It lives up to its reputation and then some - this is the most instantly impressive instrument I've played in years. It feels like your old favourite within seconds of playing it. The Aeros are very ballsy and hugely different to the Fralins that are fitted to some of these; it suprised me how different they actually are. There's a pick guard on order from Jeannie's and I'm not saying what colour it is until it comes but I will say that I nearly had an orange pearl but changed my mind at last minute It's nice to see that the frets are above the binding, it worried me on my old Jazz Deluxe that if the frets ever needed sorting out the binding would have to be redone - not the case with these.
How do those play? Like higher quality jazzes? (OTPJ=Lakland Noob!)
I'd liken my 44-02 to something like a cross between a Sterling and a Jazz. It really has it's own character and the toggel switch enables a huge tonal pallette ( ) which can everything from Jazz to P to MM and lots of other sounds of its own that are amazing for slapping. The neck is slightly chunkier than a Jazz at 1.6" at the nut

When I run my Tascam Bass Trainer off the mains I get a tink shock off the strings of my bass. The unit is really noisy when running on the AC too. Any suggestions as to how to cure? Thanks Sean

email kirk at lakland dot com - he'll advise on anything related and is quick at getting back.

There's a fill in Stuart Clayton's slap book that is near enough to use, I stole it and tweaked it slightly. I've also thought that it sounds more authentic in the fifth position. Simon, I can hear ghost notes in the one on the record, I'm sure.

I'm not given to asking these kind of questions but Sadowsky Metros have come onto my radar lately and I was wondering if anyone here has any experience of them? How, if at all they compare with a Lakland Skyline Bob Glaub and whether they really are worth double what a non-export Fender MIJ would cost. They certainly have a lot more kudos (for me anyway) than a USA Fender Deluxe for the money but are they really all that? The Sadowsky range certainly look superbly finished and have an amazing reputation and many "name users" but I've never played one and never really spoken to anyone who has had one. What do we all think?
It's about someone who picked up a dead 1984 Trace 1110 combo from Bassworld for free, got it repaired for a small sum and is now gigging with it. The interesting bit is that it was probably a prototype, being serial number 002 and was probably evaluated by Mark King as it has his name inside it. Now you don't need to buy the magazine.
That was my Trace - I put it up on Bassworld and Matt Smith collected it from me. I recognised it and him as soon as I opened BGM this morning. My mate asked me if I was gutted but I'm glad it's gone off to a good home otherwise it would still be in my garage or more than likely been cannibalised by a friend of mine up the road. Nice story and I'm glad to see it's now having the use it deserves.
A friend of mine and my former guitarist had a Gibson SG repaired that had snapped at the headstock. It too was a splintery mess. Seemed to work; he's still playing it 5 years later.
I've seen Dave Dearnaley in Cardiff do this exact repair - the SG is still being gigged nearly every night of the week to this day. I reckon it'd be about £150 for that repair.

I'm also using the Tascam MP-BT1. Superb piece of kit, I was really impressed with the build quality, aluminium chassis and very high quality plastics. The on-board effects are superb and very usable. It's so handy to be able to take with me when I'm working away or want to be in a different room or just need to check stuff at rehearsals. Built in battery like a mobile phone too. The Korg Pandora PX-5D is out soon too and that would be worth checking out as it has tons of extra features over the PX-4 versions. This was in the Korg magazine that came through my door on Saturday.
To bablance up the discussion, Yes I do agree that single pedals are better in that you can pick and choose what you really need. However buying 20 boutique pedals and all those power supplies, special cases.. leads lahdee dah dee dah is an expensive business. That money could go towards a very high end rack system, no switching delay, no hisses and buzzes, no dodgy lead problems.. and best of all, much much lighter and easier to carry ;o)
Sorry to hijack but what are the products out there for rack mounted effects for bass? What's good and what's not? Thanks Sean
