1.
I've ordered a custom built 6x10 to match and sit under my MJW Taranis.
Sea Foam Green all the way! It's the pirate colour of choice.
2.
Ooh - BF Six10??
We have a winner!
3. I've ordered a custom built 6x10 to match and sit under my MJW Taranis. New cab isn't from MJW (or Matamp) but I like to keep things Brit if possible. Just wait and see...
4. I got a WM clone made for me by this chap http://www.madebymike.co.uk/index.shtml Very good it is too. £60 I think.
5. I have an MXR Bass Chorus, it sounds just right to me ad also has flanger functions.
6. If anyone is looking at this and wishes it had an extra string (I know a lot of you do that kind of thing ), I have an immaculate mint 5-string version in Vintage White with black scratch plate and would be very interested in a kind of 3-way trade as I could do with a second BB2024x. I'm not playing 5s at the moment. Link to pics in my sig.
7. Yesterday I recorded a guitar amp/cab with two mics, an SM57 and also a large diaphragm condenser, the SC400 T-bone from Thomann. http://www.thomann.de/gb/the_tbone_sc400_grossmembranmikro.htm The SC400 is what made the final cut; it's warmer, picks up more low end and has a more organic sound.
8. The Tokai in the FS sale is probably a better instrument at ⅓ of that "discounted" price. I know which one I'd have.
9. I haven't been there for since 2010 as I'm still very happy with what the basses I bought at the time however my buying experiences and correspondence with Mark were always excellent. People do react differently to different people and I liked the no nonsense opinion. We disagreed on the sound of big valve amps and that I wouldn't be able to tell the difference between a big valve monster and Class D lightweight and that's great, it's normal, healthy debate, it's not sales BS. If I ever buy another high end instrument I'd definitely check out .
10.
I was thinking that, then I thought of the shockingly bad Canadian cod-reggae artist of the same name, and even considered that it might refer to the long-standing member of this forum, but I suspect it's none of these?
Is that salted cod-reggae?
11. Both good. The pickups on the 1024 are absolutely fantastic and although they are available as a part from Yamaha, they are expensive. They're both very good value and both punch seriously above their weights.
12. Great basses. Used to have one and have managed to replicate it's sound in my Bitsa Yamaha BBingRay.
13. That's an absolute steal for one of the best instruments to ever come out of Japan.
14.
If you want cheap, easy and less faffing about, I highly recommend the zoom r16. I'vew had 2 in my time. Only limitation is that it does 8 tracks (although you can get two and connect them giving you 16 tracks). Great sounding, really easy to use. you can mix on the unit or you can export to a DAW and play about until your heart is content. Got phantom power in two inputs. Less than 200 quid, robust, easy to use. No need to rely on a laptop. In fact... I want another one! haha
They are very very good. I used mine to track a new song this week.
15. I use a Zoom H2n for recording writing sessions most of the time. This is an example https://soundcloud.com/belowtheghost/funky-meterstyle-thing Another simple way I do it is to run a large condenser microphone into my Zoom R16 and just place the mic in the room near the drums like this https://soundcloud.com/belowtheghost/death-of-robert-j-180515-1 A little sprinkle of compression and EQ afterwards and it's good to go.
16. http://www.mjwamps.com/taranis/ If anyone is seriously interested in buying one and trying one out let me know. Some of you might have seen the build thread on this last year. It's now available as a standard build. Or, it can be customised to suit. I've been running it for six months and it's now a part of the furniture, it's my sound and I wouldn't be without it. Well, unless you wanted to jump the queue and paid me enough to order a replica. They can be made to your own spec.

Zoom B3

The MXR M80 DI+ sim is very good indeed. I've compared the two and the B3 is very close. I use my B3 as an interface and for home practise. It's definitely gig-able too. I've even used it as a drum machine for rehearsal when our drummer's been unavailable.
18.
It's a funny one... It does little with some amps that they already contain a high pass filter of some sort. But with other amps the effect is clear: the speakers move much much much less, but the sound stays virtually the same. Sometimes I feel it changes nothing in the sound, other times the bass feels a bit... nicer, "tighter", perhaps. It's subtle. But it clearly saves speakers a lot of extra work and makes the amp work less hard. I use mine all the time. Sometimes I suppose I don't need it, but it's fitted permanently to my board. You can probably never use it and ba absolutely ok, most people don't use one! But... I feel better using one.
I agree with this. I wouldn't be without it.
19. Guys. Stop feeding the machine. Buy British, buy used, buy ethical, use your noodle. Just don't throw money at evil crap. Be as ethical as you pretend to be.
