  1. This three10 really intrigues me. I've had a BF six10 and currently run 2 x BFtwo10 switchable cabs that give me enormous flexibility and I've never needed more but I do like what Alex does. I can see a three10 on the cards one day.
  2. Bienvenido a Basschat, amigo.
  3. After not owning a Spector for about 10 years or more and missing the 2008 trans blue Euro LX 4 I had, I bought this last week. It's a 2018 Euro LX 4 with a zebrano top. It's like new, came with a custom Swann case and Schaller strap locks. It's been a complete case queen since day 1. I set it up as it hadn't been touched since leavingthe factory. I kept the original strings on it as they are like new. I tweaked the Tonepump so it's now sweet and that's it. These things are phenomenal. I know nothing about these zebrano versions, so if anyone knows whether it was an option or if they were special runs, that would be interesting. What can I say? It's a peach.
  4. Whoops! That's never happened before.
  5. I have a ProShop LP style guitar. It is amazing. It's better than my 90s Jap Love Rock. However... I bought it second hand for £275. I've seen a couple come up for sale and they depreciate horrendously. If you find one used at a low price, it's likely to be a bargain of a lifetime, buy one new and want to move it on, be prepared to take a hit.
  6. There's a thread on TB about why no 35" Scale on Sadowsky basses. This gives some good insight into what is being discussed here I can't paste the link for some reason

  11. The 2018 zebra Euro LX that I have has a sticker on it of a German distributor. Was it a special run or a standard option for 2018?

    Aria bass

I saw one on Friday. This one has a very interesting history and is a part of British rock history
  13. A very nice example of an Indonesian Cortek-made G&L L-2000 Tribute that has had some pro modifications. It's trans-blue sunburst ash body and has really nice figuring. It also has the sunburst on both sides, whereas the later ones don't. The neck on these is similar to a modern P. A fantastical versatile instrument that has some very useful pro mods. The original pre-amp has been replaced by a John East MMSR unit and the switching has been modified. It has upgraded tuners. The originals have been replaced with good quality GB500 units that are an upgrade from the originals. It's had a lot of neck work that was done by John Shuker including; replacement Black Tusq nut, full fret dress and set up. All electrical work was also done by John and the switching is as follows: Three-way pickup selector (Neck/Middle/Bridge). Pickup Switching Selector: Up Position = Both Pickups in Series, Mid Position = Inner Coils in Parallel, Down Position = Both Pickups in Parallel Active/Passive Note: The mid position on switch 2 gives an "almost Stingray" sound that gives the bass an extra voice and has been one I've used a lot. In that mid position the pickup selector can be used to give single coil neck, both, single coil bridge options. Great bass and I'm selling just to get some space as I've had a recent addition. From the John East website: The MMSR 3 Knob 3 Band has been designed with characteristics very similar to the original MM Stingray? 2 Band EQ, in order to retain the same interaction between the MM pickup and the electronics, crucial in creating the original pre EB sound colours. The Bass and Treble are stacked which allows inclusion of a Mid Sweep, along with original MM style bass and treble using a 3 knob plate. When the Mid boost/cut is centred, its effect is neutral and the EQ is purely late 70s MM style. This week this bass has had a full set up, fret polish and deep clean for the sale and is fitted with new Rotosound 45-105 Nickel strings. Condition is very good. Weight is: 4.4kg Collection in Gloucester or meet somewhere or I can deliver if not too far. Also, happy to ship.
  14. At a budget of £130, I'd encourage going secondhand as you'll get so much more for your money. Brands I'd consider include Ibanez (TMB, Soundgear), Cort. Anything made in Indonesia (Cortek factory). Loads of others.
  15. I've just, this morning, set up a 2018 Euro LX 4. It arrived with me as it left the factory, with the factory-fitted strings (D'Addario unsilked rounds, probably stainless?), untouched. It's essentially NOS (new old stock). The action as it came was what I'd call medium-high, or kinda where I set it for players that like higher action, no rattles etc. Way too high for me. It has been a while since I've had a Spector on the bench and it was an absolute joy. You can take the action as low as you like, no limits. It's the lowest of all my basses now and it's not rattling. It could go a bit lower but that would be beyond where I like it. The build quality and design of these is absolutely top tier and the ease of set up is reflected in that.
  16. What's the process for getting special orders of Euro models, then?
  17. I play a Mesa 400+ through a couple of BF 210s whatever. That's what I sounds like. [That's deliberate misconjugation by the way]. 10 people at open mic night or 500 in a club or bigger The message here is, what do you want to sound like? The venue shoul be able to cope. You just need to keep up with an acoustic drum kit.
  18. I'll tell the whole story of this next week. Fascinating day out. But as a sneak preview, when I first touched this Euro LX today, it was like coming home.
  19. This... ...is now on the bench ready to be set up tomorrow morning.
  20. I'm still gigging and rehearsing with 3 proper battleships: #1 and King of Tone is my Mesa 400+ that lives in a rack case made by Jeff at Matamp while I waited. The amp came from @Beedster probably about 12 years ago. I still use the mug nearly every day, Chris! Nothing comes close to the tone but saying that, Line 6's HX models of it are very accurate. I'd like a second one tbh. #2 is my Laney Nexus Tube 400. I've had it about 10 years. 8xKT88 and lots of fancy switching options and pre-amp settings. It's epic. #3 MJW Amplification Taranis 200 - 4xKT88 and it's pretty much a Matamp GT200 clone with extra preamp channels and power switching options 200w/100w(4valve)/100(2valve)/50w(4valve)/50w(2valve). MJW worked at Matamp for a while. It's pure filth. Nowhere near the Mesa or Laney as far as power, headroom, blood and guts but it has that old Orange/Matamp tone with the added flexibly of being able to rag the @rse of it at relatively low volume using the power switching. They're heavy, sometimes they go wrong, they're expensive to fix but on the whole, I love them. I've totally embraced Barefaced cabs this last 12-14 years, so that helps keep the weight down a bit. And I always carry a Markbass head in the car too just in case 😉
  21. I've been looking into this as I have Xtenders on all my main basses. A lot of Euro LX 4s have Gotoh GB707 tuners, as does my inncoming 2018. Hipshot sells the GB7 as an Xtender. This has a different shaped key. You can either buy the GB7 and have an odd shaped tuner key, replace your other tuners with GB7s to match (expensive) or, as I'm going to do, forget about it and do it the old fashioned way. Some say that you can get Hipshot to make one out of a GB707 for you. I bet that's very expensive.
  22. Prepping quite a few basses and accessories for sale this week. Keep an eye on the classifieds 👀

  23. A Seymour Duncan Vintage Hot PJ set that I’ve for a while. I always meant to put them in my Valenti but am more than happy with what it’s got. I don’t want to split the pair. Lots of tails left and the J has the original box. SD Website says: P - If you are a fan of P-bass tone but need a little more push, the Hot P-Bass pickup gives you a the tonal and output burst you need. Built similarly to our Vintage model, the Hot for P-Bass uses a custom high output coil winding for increased low-end response and a fuller sound. What exactly does that mean? Basically your P-Bass just got a whole lot better. Its aggressive attack makes it a great pickup for heavier musical styles. Hand built in Santa Barbara, CA, the Hot for P-Bass pickup uses hand ground alnico 5 rod magnets, forbon flatwork, and is vacuum wax potted for squeal free operation. Comes with black cover. J - For this pickup we used the classic jazz tone foundation and added some punch. These pickups are voiced a little lower than a traditional jazz, with a hotter output and fuller low end than the original, giving you boom without too much top end sizzle. The hand ground alnico 5 rod magnets, and custom coil wind deliver a warmer, fatter Jazz Bass tone with a lower midrange growl. The more aggressive attack from these pickups make them great for all things rock. The neck pickup is wound RWRP so that it will hum-cancel when used together with the bridge pickup. These pickups are drop-in replacements for any American Standard Jazz Bass. Hand built in Santa Barbara, CA, the Hot for Jazz Bass pickups use hand ground alnico 5 rod magnets, forbon flatwork, and are wax potted for squeal free operation. Both pickups come with black logo covers. Collect from Gloucester or I’m happy to post Royal Mail tracked at buyers expense.
  24. / An Ibanez TMB30 Short Scale bass in Ivory. It definitely punches above its weight and a great instrument from Cortek in Indonesia. It's super versatile, sounds epic, cuts through the mix and is all standard sizes, so can be upgraded with standard size aftermarket pickups, bridges, tuners etc. if that floats yer boat. It's had a fret dress and level so it plays beautifully, its fret polished, set up medium-low and has new strings for the sale. The plastic is still on the pick guard and pickups! Weight is: 3.8kg Collection in Gloucester or meet somewhere or I can deliver if not too far.
  25. Here's a nice example of an G&L Tribute JB1 in Lake Placid Blue that I bought for a project that didn't work out (we've all a few of those!). It's had fretwork (level and dress), a fret polish, a full set up and new strings. The pickups have quickfit solder-less connectors so you can change out the pickups easily. The cavity has been lined with copper and the fingerboard has been oiled with Crimson Guitars Fretboard Restorative (you should get some, it's lovely). This is a lot of bass for under 300 notes. I'm selling to create space for something else very different. It's a very good, great quality J bass built by Cortek in Indonesia. It's a cracking bass as it is and is also a superb platform for modding. The bridge is fantastic, it's the full G&L design, loads of sustain and really easy to use. The back of the neck has been sanded a bit, this can be seen in the photos. Weight is: 4.3kg. Happy to courier, I've lots of proper packing. Collection in Gloucester or meet somewhere or I can deliver if not too far. If you have any questions, want more pics etc, please let me know. As far as trades go it'll be a quality 1x10 (cash adjustment if required) or anything Squier that can be sold on. Rescue jobs also considered as I am a trained guitar tech.
