out of interest... does the walkabout have enough power for it?
Sounds fabulous with the Walkabout and loud enough for any stage/venue/room etc. easily. I was astonished but then again those Boogies have loads of balls.
The only way Alex is going to improve his product and stay in business is if he receives and accepts valid criticism.
From what I can see from my own experience, he has. The Gen 3 stuff is fantastic. I wasn't a fan of the earlier gear mainly down to build and as a result didn't buy one but with the Gen 3 I'm converted and I'm stupidly fussy about the function, quality and value of stuff.

I bought a pedalboard from Shep, great bloke to deal with, had a good chat and learned enough about some interesting effects pedals to whet my appetite to find out more. Many thanks a great deal.

Channel 1 does clean to warm overdrive with a Baxendale/James tone stack and a four-way voice control. Channel 2 does overdrive to really filthy (more so than my MXR pedal) and also has a character switch which changes it from vintage sounding to modern. This channel does Motown to Megadeth with ease. The power section is switchable from 4 valves to 2 and also can be switched to half power in both modes. Half power on four valves sounds very different to full power on two valves. Running it flat out on half power with two valves about 50 watt) gives the dream tones at pub gig levels. There's a presence control on the power section that brings in amazing harmonic richness.

Pics from today. It's in its carcass and has a few tweaks that need to be done but it's very close to completion. Yes, that DI will be changed to male for the final build.
Hi Sean, did the hipshots just drop right in, or was there a bit more to it than that?
They were very close but I used a bit of 240 grit paper around my finger to ream out the holes a bit. It only took about two minutes a hole of gentle sanding. Two of the screw holes match, the other two are close but not quite so I drilled a tiny pilot hole and screwed the other two in. No holes can be seen and if you put the old tuners back on no-one will be any the wiser.
So are these j&d jazz's good enough to gig?
Yes, absolutely. Mine's got Hipshots, Hot Rod (Wizard) '74s, replacement loom, new bridge and a proper fret job. It's good enough to have a career with.

Although I like the sea gods and monsters references, which are linked to the fact that this am is going to be sea foam green, any future ones could be any colour so I won't include them in the poll unless they are seriously cool. Like Kraken. I'm currently liking Taranis, the Celtic/British god of thunder and king of the gods.

Here's the build thread with photos of it as it was on Monday. Might give you inspiration. I'm going to see it tomorrow and work on the pre-amp settings; when I get back I'll put a poll up for the names.

My bass is quite heavy so make sure Jon finds a nice light piece. It's northern ash, which is quite dense, swamp ash could be lighter. 22 frets was a mistake as access to the truss rod is difficult, Jon told me this at the time but I wanted 22. I can see me cutting it back in future. The frets are stainless jumbo fret wire, I like it but it's not for everyone so make sure you're happy with such big frets if he suggests them. They're also much harder to fit than nickel. I'd highly recommend the pickups. The Basslines MM is very Stingray, the P is a Seymour Duncan SPB-2, very hot and balances the MM well. Moving the high coil of the P toward the neck gives a very different character, this is most evident when playing disco octaves as the D and G sound much fatter.

I've done a build course with Jon. Fabulous week, you'll really enjoy it. Looks like your spec is achievable however I'd check if that paint job can be done in the time taken; finishes are usually the limiting factor. Another thing I'd suggest is that you have a good idea (rough sketches) of headstock shape before you go. And be prepared for hours upon hours upon hours of sanding - it's like wax on, wax off in the Karate Kid and it will make you a better man.

Absolutely not. I've done it in the past and regretted it. People don't give a stuff if they damage your gear, they treat it the same way we treat driving range golf clubs, weights at the gym or supermarket trolleys. I would have offered to have a go at fixing it though as I usually have a soldering iron and a few basic components and tools in my gig bag. And saying that, if it was whoever ridiculed me in the past for having such a comprehensive gig bag and said it was over the top, I would call a c-bomb and tell them to go f-bomb themselves. Same goes for amps, cabs, microphones (that's like wearing someone else's dentures), mic stands, pedals, DI boxes or anything I have to wait around until the end to get back. This applies to strangers and people I have no track record with, there are a select few that I'd be happy to lend stuff to but not my main basses. One the plus side, I will and do help out loads if folk are decent and in a pickle, for example: I will try to fix your leads, sockets, pots etc. I won't touch your amps though. I'll help you lift and carry as I always have a trolley. I'll make tea. Oh, yes, I excel at this. I'll give you a lift if it's it not too far out of the way. I'll take your mate to hospital after he fell and gashed his head. You can borrow my tuner for your initial tune up but after that it's back in my gig bag. I will even make you an impromptu strap out of cardboard, nylon string and gaffer tape because you're not borrowing mine. (Actually done this twice and they're pretty good). I will also give you unlimited free advice on how to be a proper, responsible band member who doesn't have to go scubbing stuff cos your ill-prepared. We live in an age where good gigging gear is cheap and the know-how for fixing and maintaining gear is freely available so there's little excuse for the vast majority of imposition upon strangers that I see out there.

Loads of good ideas here. Poll time soon

They arrived today, seem well made. Will be Monday before I get them on a kit.
Neptune or Poseidon. Both gods of the sea, so go with the colour. And they both wield a Trident (a three pronged spear), to match your three power options.
I really like this one

Hi All I'm having a bass amp built by Martin Wheelan at MJW Amplification and as it's his first bass amp build since he left Matamp, we're looking for a name for it. Most of Martin's guitar amps have names rather than alphanumeric monikers e.g. Orion Cub Bantam Electra Goldstar V6-20 (the exception) Most of the names come from vintage motorcycles but that's not particularly important or relevant in this case. One discarded suggestion so far is Dominator; I didn't fancy standing on stage with my Dominator behind be! I'd like it to have a proper name if possible, rather than say, MJW200B. The amp is a 200 watt 2-channel all-valve hand-wired monster with 4 x KT88 power valves, very like a Matamp GT200B or Orange AD200B. It's going to have the power section switchable from 200 to 100 to 50 watts. It's going to be sea foam green tolex with black hardware. When I've got a load of names, I'll do a poll and we'll see what wins. So here's my suggestion to get started: My own preference is Quattro - the original Audi Sport Quattro is my favourite car, the amp's got 4 big power valves (Quattrovalvole anyone?) and it implies something exciting. Your go...
