How does "literally" fit in here? It's either quite funny or it's not. Where does literally come into it. Please advise. Many thanks.
Being a life long pick player I swear by Jim Dunlop Tortex .73 Just the right balance of firm for digging in, flexi for speed and rubbery grip-ness. Love them and always a couple in my back pocket
^ this. Next thread please.
I currently play my AD200B through a Barefaced Super Twelve and it sings. Every note is defined crisp and clear, it handles any setting the amp can throw at it and it's loud enough for any gig I'm ever going to do. In saying that, I am hankering for a 69'er
Do you ever find that your rig is too loud for certain situations?

I had one with Fralins in it and it was fantastic other than the fact that it was really uncomfortable during long rehearsals and the 3 hour gigs I was doing at the time because of the 90 degree bound edge. Loads of compliments on it. Fabulous neck.

My band were all, "Ooh, look he's got a new amp!" (I did not correct them on minor detail) and they reckoned it sounded better than the "old one" however said it was still unmistakably Mesa Boogie :-)
Hmmm, Alex hinted at March...
I've not heard a peep since placing the order.

My guess is that it'll be late April or early May.

Fantastic P pickup that went out of production at Wizard a number of years ago due to the high price of the rare earth magnets used - that's what Andy at Wizard told me when I asked him to build me another one some years back. Very few of these ever made. This is a great rock pickup and has a very distinctive and dark tone. Currently I have no home for it in any bass so it might as well be put to use by someone looking for a great P pickup. Price includes postage in the UK. Bank transfer or cash on collection please.

This is the heavy duty padded version. It's seen quite a bit of use however it's still intact and good serviceable order. Loads of storage pockets, excellent protection, can be worn as a rucksack, really we'll made. It's been through the wash and has come up well. Collection from Gloucester or Cheltenham only for this one, I haven't got any packaging for it.

You'd need a very long speaker cable made up.

This thread ought to be a sticky but only if someone knows what that means.
I put my Matamp GT200 through Alex's BB2 at last years SE Bash. I was aided and abetted by 51mon who also gave me help with my compression, so all was flowing. I've never had a cab with a tweeter before and Si dialed in just the right amount of top for me. It gave a freedom like a good blow of the nose. The cab feels like it is breathing with nice clear air-ways. I've heard people say Barefaced are Hi-Fi, but I think they don't colour the sound in any way, if that's Hi-Fi then so be it. So what I was hearing was 100% amp and bass. So if you've got good gear, it sounds f'ing ace. But, you may see why some classic sounds are much a part of the cab as head (take Ampegs' 810 for instance). I usually run the GT200 with a Matamp 212 with Celestion ferrite drivers. When you get the cab cooking it sounds lovely with a nice thump in the guts. But the Ferrite's are heavy lumps and it feels like as much energy is used moving the magnets as making sound. The BF does not have this lag and the response is quicker. But the 212 adds a colouration that the BF does not. Don't let anyone kid you that these cabs are flimsy from being light weight, or not loud or something. For larks we got things stupid loud, as in everything turned up full, vol, drive, the lot. And the BF did not miss a beat as the school hall windows were blown out. I went to the bash specifically wanting to try Jack's 69'er. I A-B'd it with my Mat 212 and couldn't put a fag paper between the two of them. I came away wanting a BF BB2
Interesting stuff, thanks. Are you saying that the 69er adds it's own colour in the same way the 2x12 does? Have you got the Eminence Delta 12a drivers in the Matamp 2x12?

Anyone out there using a big valve monster through a BareFaced? I'd be interested in your reaction to the change, what differences there were, any thoughts related to this. I've just ordered a Big Twin 2.
Also... after noticing your signature; BB2024X, way better than a 1024X?
The BB2024x is comparable to a Masterbuilt Fender, a Shuker or a Sadowsky, it's really up at that level of quality and finish. The wood treatments seem to make a difference and although I was originally cynical, the vibration process of distressing all the components and surfaces works. I checked with our chief boffin in work and he explained it to me. The pickups (which are the same as on the 1024) are astoundingly good. It's probably the best product I've ever owned and it's tattooed on me (the tat's award winning and magazine featured) - pics of which are on here somewhere. The BB2025x is slightly more aggressive sounding and wipes the floor with any other 34" 5-string I've ever played.
Cheers, how much did he charge if you don't mind me asking?
£180 but that was with double stringers. I think plain would have been £150.

Hi all I've got a pair of Celestion Truvox 1225 speakers for sale http://www.bluearan.co.uk/index.php?id=CELTF1225 They are 250W and 8ohm, good working order with low mileage. You can have the pair for £50 cash on collection. Collection from Gloucester only. I haven't got packing to suit and by their very nature they aren't the greatest things in the world to post. Cheers Sean

Original song from Outlands. Only the second time we've played it so it's a bit scruffy. Recorded on a Zoom H4 this afternoon. https://soundcloud.com/seanfunk1/someone-like-you-jan18

Calling all big valve/tube amp users - what spares...?
Sean replied to Sean's topic in Amps and Cabs
Unless it makes you feel safer, I wouldn't bother with spare valves. I rehearsed and gigged a 400+ for over ten years without a single issue. I did completely re valve it a couple of times but it never died at a show. Only time fuses went was when the usual dicks with no gear who used it switched the power and standby on and off at the same time. (You can tell I'm not still bitter about it) Having had a 2024x and a 400+ but sadly not at the same time I can imagine that will sound great. Put it on a big cab and it will take down walls! I'm jealous now.
I never share gear so I won't have the abuse issue. I carry a DI and we have a big PA so I reckon I'll be just carrying fuses. You're right about the sound with the Yam, the 400+ just loves those pickups. I'm hankering for a really big cab. I've tried all the lightweight Class D stuff and for me it was alcohol-free beer versus a pint of Fullers or the difference between electric cars and rear-wheel drive petrol engined V8 muscle cars, the weight is a small price to pay for all that endless tone and chest-crushing heft that the big valve amps throw out.
