1. Loads of good ideas here. Poll time soon
2. They arrived today, seem well made. Will be Monday before I get them on a kit.
3.
Neptune or Poseidon. Both gods of the sea, so go with the colour. And they both wield a Trident (a three pronged spear), to match your three power options.
I really like this one
4.
Call it the sherminator
What's the logic?
5. Hi All I'm having a bass amp built by Martin Wheelan at MJW Amplification and as it's his first bass amp build since he left Matamp, we're looking for a name for it. Most of Martin's guitar amps have names rather than alphanumeric monikers e.g. Orion Cub Bantam Electra Goldstar V6-20 (the exception) Most of the names come from vintage motorcycles but that's not particularly important or relevant in this case. One discarded suggestion so far is Dominator; I didn't fancy standing on stage with my Dominator behind be! I'd like it to have a proper name if possible, rather than say, MJW200B. The amp is a 200 watt 2-channel all-valve hand-wired monster with 4 x KT88 power valves, very like a Matamp GT200B or Orange AD200B. It's going to have the power section switchable from 200 to 100 to 50 watts. It's going to be sea foam green tolex with black hardware. When I've got a load of names, I'll do a poll and we'll see what wins. So here's my suggestion to get started: My own preference is Quattro - the original Audi Sport Quattro is my favourite car, the amp's got 4 big power valves (Quattrovalvole anyone?) and it implies something exciting. Your go...
6. 1. Set fire to the Ashdown 2. Get a sturdy handcart 4. Wheel your gear around I deleted #3.
7. Proper Old Testement that. I saw the trailer for Exodus: Gods & Kings yesterday and is wasn't anywhere near as epic as that rig. Loving the key. Might get one on my MJW 200 watt build if it's not to late.
8. Do a search on Pingray on this forum and have a read. Then decide what you fancy doing.
9. I've just ordered some Studiospares SN10A based on price and reviews and also the fact that the mixing headphones I have from them are fantastic. I'll try and post some kind of review when I get them.
10. Looking at these http://www.studiospa...kit/invt/449650 I'm needing to get decent drum sounds on a budget and have gone for some quite cheap but highly rated Studiospares mics. Cheap as chips. Anyone got any experience of these? Are they any good?
11. Beware! If you are running the R16 off a power supply and there is a power cut, you will lose the files since the last save. I lost about two hours last night. The files are there but there's nothing recorded. When you press STOP you get a progress bar and it writes the recorded stuff to the file, if the power fails you lose it all. I kind of understand. I'm going to see if loading batteries in the back stops this.
12. Here's a recording from last night, it's a writing session and improvised so a bit sketchy http://soundcloud.com/belowtheghost/toxic-pixie-dust-unfinished/s-md7zN This is: sh*tty Rehearsal room Vocal mics on snare and kick, bass DI, guitar DI, stereo pair on R16 mounted close to the kit. Imported the files into Logic Pro X Snare and kick EQ'd and compressed loads, guitar compressed and EQ'd, Bass which was recorded through an MXR M80 DI had a 400+ model put on it with a load of drive. Room mics were EQ'd a bit.
13.
Do the Dunlops comes with matching screws?
Sorry, no screws with these.
14.
Lukather is so underated...
I know quite a few guitarists that rate him highly, me for one. Seen Toto four times and SL solo, always fabulous. His stuff on Thriller is benchmark and must be some of the most listened to guitar playing ever. I think the only area where Luke is underrated is as a Shane Ritchie lookalike
15. I recorded our rehearsal this week with my recently acquired R16 (£133 on eBay) and it went well. Mics on snare and kick, bass DI from MXR M80, singer with second mic because we don't have a splitter, guitar through DI box. And the stereo pair recording the room. The guitar DI failed because it's broken so there's none of that in the mix other than what was being picked up from the room. Next time we'll have a mic splitter and the guitar will work. I enhanced the recordings and did a bit of a mix before sharing on SoundCloud, this convinced the guys in the band that it's worth the extra set up time to get better recordings. I was able to EQ and compress the drums, add a model to the bass, sort the vocals and get the levels right. Previously we used the stereo pair on a very old Zoom H4 but this is the way forward. Interestingly if you pan the stereo track back and forth, you can hear the difference between the right and left mics because of the distance between them (12" or so) whereas you don't get this with the H4 because the mics are arranged more closely.
16. Another great Basschat deal. Fellow Pearl Jam and valve amp fan, what's not to love?!

MB1 Feedback

Another great Basschat deal. Martin's a top bloke as nine pages of feedback testify.
18. I need some near field studio monitors for general mixing of rock band originals recordings and general playback. I've been looking at Studiospares gear but wanted to get some input from my fellow BCers first These? http://www.studiospares.com/studio-monitors/studiospares-sn10a-active-monitors-pair/invt/249210 These? http://www.studiospares.com/studio-monitors/studiospares-aktiv8-pair-of-8-active-monitors/invt/248930 Or http://www.studiospares.com/studio-monitors/studiospares-aktiv8-pair-of-8-active-monitors/invt/248930 These? http://www.studiospares.com/studio-monitors/krk-rokit-rp8-g3-x2-+monitor-pads-bundle/invt/390231 Budget £300-400 for active speakers.
19. For my needs I use flats on a P and play with a pick and stainless round wounds with my fingers on my BB. Both are just right for me.

Whizzzy

Another great deal that goes to show that Basschatters are the best people to buy from and sell to. Thanks for making it so easy.
21. I have a set of used Rotosound flatwounds that have loads of life left in them. I've had them ages and they haven't been on a bass in a few years. I am almost certain that they are the Jazz Bass 77 strings. The wraps are a bit tatty but this shouldn't show much when they're on. £8 posted in UK Bank transfer or PayPal Gift please.
