4.
Charlie Watts & Bill Wyman
I love Bill's playing, his style is really distinctive. It is so unusual to see any love for Bill on a bass players forum. He suffers from having a muddy sound but some of lines are just fantastic and I don't mean the ones that Keith played! Has anyone said Stewart Copeland and Sting yet? One of my fave rhythm sections, pushing, pulling, always close to falling apart but not quite; magic stuff.
  5. Ibanez or Yamaha - buy used and you can't go wrong; if its not for you you'll get your money back easily.

  7.
The guy from Van Halen ?
...is one of the most solid rock bassists out there and one hell of backing vocalist to boot. So, you're way off the mark there.
  8. I'm just about to move from a 57 plate SEAT Altea XL which I've had since new to a new A4 Avant. The problem with the A4 is that the rear seat doesn't fold totally flat like it does in the Altea but it's a much nicer car and the boot area has a slightly larger footprint but isn't as high inside. I'd have loved to have gone for a BMW 123d, it's a great drive but I can't get my gear plus the PA in it. An A6 Avant would be my ideal car for purpose.
  9. I spoke to him last Sunday on the phone.
  10. Please could someone PM me the address for Shuker Guitars? I need to arrange shipment of bass to Jon tomorrow and it's a bit late to contact him and the address isn't on the website or anywhere.
  11. Jim - keep it! These are the best things in the World, better than mums, motorcycles or London Pride. I'm ashamed I haven't got one when I love them so much.

    CURVED AIR
Wasn't he married to Sonja Kristina?
Wikipedia says "Copeland was romantically involved with Curved Air vocalist Sonja Kristina beginning in 1974, and they were married from 1982 to 1991"

    CURVED AIR

The great Stewart Copeland did a stint with them back in the day.
  14. The build quality of the Attitude II is just flawless however it's a quirky instrument and definitely, firmly in the try-it-before-you-buy-it category. The neck is like a proper chunky 70s Precision. It's capable of monstrous sounds (obviously) and if you want the full Billy thing I believe you'll have to pop a FatFinger on it. You don't have to switch the jack from one socket to the other though, it has two volumes IIRC. It also has a push-pull pot which give tone variations. Anything under £800 for one of these is a steal.
  15.
If it was me I would leave and tell them why. You could always fine another band or form your own with like minded people.
I agree but remember that I did this and 18 months later my own band still trying to find a permanent singer and haven't gigged.
  16. Nothing new on that show. Poor editing and ridiculous random insertions about James Hunt and Sea Petrels! Why couldn't they have shown some rehearsal footage or behind the scenes snippets? Asking Ronnie Wood 'new boy' questions 37 years on; can't anyone think to ask him about more recent events, it's not like there aren't any! Crossfire Hurricane Pt1 was OK, I'll be watching Pt2 tonight. Can't wait to hear Mick Taylor, he's a bit the worse for wear to say the least.
  17.
http://www.molotow.c...-relaunch-2011/ intrigued about the Shuker! let me guess have you integrated a full size leslie speaker into it?
I like that Molotow site, it's given me some ideas for a unique paint job. The new project won't be a new Shuker, I'm just getting Jon to do some of the more dramatic wood surgery before I do the rest myself.
  18.
how are these going? I got the first coat of paint on my jazz body today - was going to go down the proper sanding sealer/primer/colour topcoat route in nitro- then costed it up, primer/acrylic/topcoat also seemed to be a bit much - top quality graffiti paint however - designed to give good colour and coverage - and £3.50 a can!
The BB400S is waiting to be shipped to The Bass Doc for control jack and battery routs and a bone nut to be cut and fitted. I'm also having him make a white pearl Stingray type pickguard for it too. I'm working in China at the moment so it's on hold for a couple of weeks. As soon as I get back I'll be fitting the bridge, pickups and tuners so Howard can do his bit. The 300 body is still only half stripped and is waiting for more work to get it back to the wood, I'll work out what to do with it then. I've got another project about to start and Jon Shuker is going to start that for me but I'm keeping it under wraps until it's done as I feel there'd be a few and a few and not to mention a few and even some and possibly some if they saw it before it's done. What paint did you use? Have you got a link? I might give some cheaper paint a go on the 300 just to see.

    Yamaha BBs
I suspect that around the late nineties, when "modern" basses were (arguably) most popular, Yamaha thought they would breathe some new life into the BB range by modernising them. Combined with the development of the Nathan East model it probably seemed like a great idea (and I personally love 'em!). The BB605 pictured above was produced as a budget version of the NE, and has a NE-1 preamp (i have one in black), and there was later the BB2004/5 which weren't far away from the NE in terms of spec/build quality (i think they were around the £1000 mark). I guess these "modern" BBs didn't work out that well for them because they weren't around for all that long, and as more traditional style basses came back into favour Yamaha returned to the traditional BB design we all know and love.
Makes sense to me:-)
  22. I've now asked for a quote for the routing, pickguard and a new nut.
  23.
looking good, what did you end up using as grain filler?
Nothing! Once I flat sanded the body back it became almost smooth. I was reluctantly ready to get the automotive primer/filler out, which would have made the project lose something for me but we're back on track now. I got about 3/4 of the Sea Foam Green on there yesterday and I'll finish the spraying next Saturday, I need to get some more on where there are a few paler patches. If the headstock is going to match, it's going to need another tin of SFG however I really fancy having a go. How do I do the masking for the headstock? I've got Matt lacquer for the neck but I'll need to use some if the body gloss lacquer for the headstock... ...sort of typing and thinking out loud now!
