Bassist Wanted Ad on JMB - shows the mentality of some people
Sean replied to Sean's topic in General Discussion
We have been advertising for a vocalist for four months on the JMB website, I cannot believe the d*ckheads that have applied. That particular site does seem to encourage a fair amount of "time wasters"
We've had the exact same experience and it was my mood about this that generated this thread. Can't believe the idiots out there. -
He also plays the keyboards quite well too. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tKDzQid-FqM
Mills is an outstanding songwriter and all round musician, one of my all time favourites.

Bassist Wanted Ad on JMB - shows the mentality of some people
I couldn't even read it. It's far too poorly written! Also, what's up with all the... When did people start using three full stops to end a sentence?
You don't have to be able to write properly, just be into the content... ;-) -
here is it as is... "Hi we're a 4 piece Band playing all our own songs, lots of gig experience etc... Looking for someone who can play bass to complete the lineup... Don't necessarily need to be a bass player first and for most, it's more a case of being into the genre... Similar to brmc, the verve, jake bugg, stone roses, Oasis, Catfish and the Bottlemen, Ben Howard and loads of 60s and 90s influences... If it seems like you're thing get in touch, we rehearse once a week, for gigs in the future" That's right, kids, you don't even have to be a bass player, just into the music. What a fantastic opportunity for someone. I might apply, it'll save me lugging all my kit around.

John did a fabulous loom for me for my Richie Kotzen Telecaster so that I could return it to factory spec wiring. The previous owner had made it standard 3-way, which is like dropping a 2.0 TDi into a Ferrari. We sorted the spec on Sunday and received the loom on Tuesday. It's a lovely piece of kit, beautifully made and he's a top bloke because I know he likes a drop of Scotland's finest judging by what the mock baseplate was made of ;-) I've now got two KiOgon looms but this is the first time I've dealt with him directly but it won't be the last. Five stars. 10/10.

Funny things that people say to you at gigs

I was told that I was the best lead guitarist that had ever played at the club we were playing. He went on to tell me how much better than Eric Clapton I was. I was playing cheesey covers on a five string Spector. There was no way he got me mixed up with the guitarist, he had a beard and hair, I have neither! -
Lost dogs - basses you wish you could buy back... Have you got it now?
Lol, the harp player at a jam I used to frequent
Where was this jam session? Heaven?
Status Hotwire flats 40s - 100s on my Ray (though it is a fretless). Plenty of zing and low - medium tension.
Yep, it's the tension on a 34" that make these winners for me. I have a set on my Valenti and as far as I'm concerned nothing gets close; they feel great, the black stringers make them look fabulous and they're great value for money. And... they're British. Good for our economy, good for niche bass product manufacturing, fabulous products. You can't lose.

These are great value and have the range https://www.studiospares.com/Microphones/Mics-Condenser/Studiospares-S2000-Multi-Pattern-Condenser-Mic_449950.htm They're also under £100 and are perfect for recording everything else from a horn section in 360 degrees to vocals to acoustic guitar.

I got some '74s from Hot Rod for my J&D and they are absolutely fabulous and the service was spot on. The pickups are right up there with Aeros or Fralins and as a bonus they're British. I try to buy British wherever possible and practical; we need to support niche UK businesses that do great quality and offer good service.

http://www.presonus.com/products/FireStudio-Project I've been looking at this for recording my band in our studio. 4 or 5 drum mics, DI bass and guitar all into my Mac running Logic. I like that fact that it's got 8 real analogue inputs and not all the airy fairy virtual/midi/optical inputs that a DJ would require. Does anyone have any experience of this unit or a similar product that does the same job at a similar price! They're under £300.
It's the volume control on a passive bass that I don't understand!!!
Once you start to use it, you'll start to understand it.

i was listening to Graham Cochrane of The Recording Revolution and he was recommending using alternative DAWs to explore and learn more about what's possible and to use accidental discovery to enhance the music making process. Do any of you advocate this? Is there anything to be learned other than how to drive a different DAW? Before I go downloading something and giving it a whirl, I'd be interested to hear if any of you do this and what you've learned. I use Logic btw.
That sounds like what I'm after. I've sent them an email, just waiting on them getting back to me.
This is what I said to Dave after getting them: Hi Dave Got the '74 Jazz Bass pickups. They sound superb, just what I needed. I like the long wires, nice to see. With nickel round wounds they have lovely sizzle and good bottom end and remind me of overwound Fralins and also Aero Type 1 but British! Nice looking scatter too. Was I right in thinking they are overwound 64s? Really pleased. Thanks for a quick turnaround, much appreciated. he said: Hi Sean - great stuff and thanks for the feedback, much appreciated... The spec is a mixture of the two main models: same magnets as 64/84s but with a different gauge wire and number of turns. It still impresses me just how much sonic difference these small details make! Please let me know if you ever need anything else. All the best for now. Great service and it's nice to see Wizard's business going to people who offer great service and passion for the products. I tried loads earlier this year (not the G-Lab, though) and settled on an Ibanez Weeping Demon; it's about as versatile as you can imagine, well made and doesn't suck my tone. It also activates in a number of different ways which makes it very handy. If you would like to hear it go here I can't remember the settings I used but I was very happy with the results. The only downside to the Demon is that it has a big footprint and takes up a bit more room on your board than a Crybaby style or even a Morley style but it's worth it.
As you're probably already aware, Wizard pups are now being made by Hot Rod Pickups... https://hotrodpickups.wordpress.com/index/bass/ Looks like they offer a similar custom / bespoke build option as Wizard used to, so they could maybe do you summat beefier than 64's, but not as dark as 84's?
Hot Rod did some '74s for me. Old Wizard spec and are fabulous, higher output than '64s, less dark than '84s

I bet I could make that ACG Jazz sound just right in that band. If you don't think it's up to muster I'll fix it up ;-)
