1. At £340 I'm sure it's great value for money and we all know CIJ Fenders are fantastic. I've had a few and they are hands down better than all bar one US Fender I've had. Personally the foto flame is a turn off but tats subjective.
  2. For my recent £200 challenge I had a deadline, is there one in this case? I like the whole challenge with strict parameters thing, it's like solving a puzzle. I was really lucky and have scored a superb instrument that was an instant keeper for me. Good luck and I hope you end up falling I love with whatever you get :-)

  4. I played a passive Dingwall 5 string at Bass Direct and was left thinking, "what CAN'T this bass do?" however it didn't feel like "me". It started me thinking that maybe in 20 years or so everyone will be using a fanned fret, multi-scale instrument. Some of the benefits are undeniable when you take the laws if physics and the constraints of manufacturing into consideration.
  5. I've played a couple of Dingwall basses and I must admit I've been very impressed and not found the fanned fret thing to be alien at all. Is there anyone that has played one and really not liked it? I'd like to understand why that was. Leland Sklar sold most of his basses after switching to Dingwall but seems to have kept hold of some of his Yamaha BBs. Maybe that's a sentimental thing, I dunno. Has anyone that has bought one been fully converted and sold all their conventional basses as a result? As much as I see the benefit of the design and as much as I love technology I think that the aesthetic of them is a major stumbling block for me. Should I keep my BBs or go Dingwall? That's a rhetorical question obviously ;-)
  6.
Looks like its gone to Sean's Yamaha collection !
Maybe. And maybe I'm no longer disappointed about missing out on that eBay BB1200 last week ;-)
  7. Some of the posts in this thread remind me of the Rifleman's Creed. I've adapted it for bass...
This is my bass. There are many like it, but this one is mine.

My bass is my best friend. It is my life. I must master it as I must master my life.

My bass, without me, is useless. Without my bass, I am useless. I must play my bass true.

My bass is human, even as I, because it is my life. Thus, I will learn it as a brother. I will learn its weaknesses, its strength, its parts, its accessories, its fretboard and its sounds.

I will keep my bass clean and ready, even as I am clean and ready. We will become part of each other. We will...
8. Shame it's been modified, really.
  9. It's just passed £500. That's me out; it's a beautiful bit of kit but that's approaching BB3000 money. Good luck to whoever wins it, it looks absolutely stonking :-D
  10.
Yamaha BB800 - I have had one of these since 1980 , better than any 1970s Fender precision. This looks like it will go for a song, someone please buy it to stop me! http://www.ebay.co.u...=item256d7d378b
Someone had a bargain. Yet again I fell foul of trying to bid using my iPhone
  11.
Built 16/01/85. Standard or narrow neck version?
What's the difference? Is it like Jazz vs Precision nut width?
  12. I bought some PIO caps from Nick too! Nice bloke to deal with, nice easy transaction.
  13. Bought a Yamaha from Dave. Excellent instrument, bombproof packing and a great experience all round. Thanks again

    Yamaha BB1600

First dibs if you ever get bored ;-)
  15. I've played two Metros and was disappointed by both. Massively disappointed. They both were put in the shade by, of all things, my old Lakland DJ Skyline. I had serious, couldn-sleep-at-night GAS for a Sadowsky but since playing two metros (months apart) I haven't given them a second thought. That said, next trip to New York, I'll be trying an NYC.
  16. If I was like those people in work that irritate me, this is where I would see an opportunity to relate a story about a time that I was in Jamaica it since aim not one and haven't been there, I won't.
  17. I see that since reintroducing the DJ, they've ditched the weird looking 44-75 model that looked like a stunted version of the DJ; it had shorter horns and I think the bridge pickup was in a more 70s position.
  18. I hope the new owner signs in here soon and lets us in on what it's like. Even though he said he was prepared to post, I wouldn't be confident about the packing although I did receive an Ibanez ATK once in nothing but a ripped bin bag and it survived the trip without damage.
  19. It went for £72! I decided that the 8 hour round trip to SCARBOROUGH and fuel costs were out of the equation. Anyone on here get it?
  20. Found one! Bought it on Basschat and I should be very much at home with it. Pics soon.
  21. I bought some strings from Gareth. Nice and easy to deal with and very good communications. Thanks very much! :-)
  22. I'm on this like a tramp on a hot pastie!

    New Zoom B3

has anyone used the edit and share software yet? I sort of had the idea that maybe there would be a forum hosted by Zoom where people swapped patches in the way that TC Electronic does it with users of the G System. It'd be a really lazy way of me getting some decent Muse sounding patches
  24.
Get an Ibanez Blazer....if you can find one! I've been looking for another one for weeks with no luck. And I suspect should one turn up it'll go for a good few hundred seeing as they appear to be so scarce. They sound amazing. Like a regular precision, but with added snap, added crackle and possibly even more pop. The tone control is more responsive than Japanese and Mexican Precisions (never tried an American) and they have traditional 80's Ibanez build quality. They just will not go wrong! Solid brass bridge, solid open back tuners (nice and retro!) and a wonderfully aesthetically pleasing design. Slight points on the top and bottom horns, and a lovely headstock shape that somewhat reminds me of a smile! Ill get some pictures up soon because I love showing it to people! You'll not regret it! Truckstop
Next best thing to a Blazer on eBay here It's damn near identical, I'm sure someone will be along soon who knows the differences between and Ibanez Blazer and these Cimars
