Here's the body with the first coat of white primer on. I've managed to get a few runs so it'll need sanding back a bit. This is my first time spray painting anything except a fence so it's a learning experience. From what I've learned from spraying the first coat, you have to be very sparing with the paint and build it up in layers more so than I first thought.
Here's my trio of Yammy's: Left is my BB415 which I had The Bass Doc (God bless 'im!!!!) fit my John East U-Retro & 18V battery box - an exemplary job, even included 2 coats of conductive paint in the re-shaped control cavity. It's otherwise standard. Great tones, lovely player, fitted with Overwaters, the 'Does Everything' instrument. My only complaint is that the tuners rattle audibly when playing acoustically - you can't hear it when plugged in, but I may swap them for something tighter.
Hi Geoff, any chance of seeing a photo of the BB415 body close up - back and front? I'd like to see how that East preamp install looks. Thanks.
So im currently in the process of buying bengovier's BB415 to go along with my 414, im planning to string it with some flatwounds when I get it. Im currently using Picato flats on my 414 but has anyone had any experience with flats on a 415? How does the B string sound ect? Also maybe some suggestions on strings would be great too as I dont have much experience with flatwounds. Cheers.
My 415 has TI Jazz flats on it and they're pretty good. I tried loads, Status strings suit it and I have them on another BB. My 415 has a replacement bridge that moves the anchor points back and also has string retainers fitted which help with tension, without them I think the TIs would feel a bit slack. Try the Status ones. La Bellas tend to be quite tight for the uninitiated.
Looks nice, and looks like it took an awful amount of effort to get it to that stage as well What's on the other end of the pair of forks to the left of your workmate? I'm guessing the other is some sort of Beemer?
Good spot! Yep, it's my K1300GT. What bike have you got?

Well, the old finish took a fair bit of getting off; needed heat gun & scraper and then lots of 80 grit sandpaper, then I used 180 and finished off with 240. I bought myself a new Ryobi detail sander which was £25 and I saved 20% on that as I got a mate who works for B&Q to get it for me - Result! Here's mid way through the scraping After scraping After filling and sanding

I'm not sure what it is. I'm guessing it's a thin polyurethane finish. It's certainly not as thick as some modern poly finishes. Anyway it's pretty tough but the heat gun seems to be doing it's job but more slowly than I would have hoped.

Nitromors isn't even blemishing the finish! Heat gun tomorrow night. The neck is sanding off really easily though.

I've decided to refinish the Yamaha BB400S I have as it's a bit of an ugly duckling and looks a bit some old lady's table top. I've never done this before so it's going to be a bit of an adventure. I've read loads on refinishing and think I'm patient enough not to rush so let's see. Anyway, here's the body after removing all the hardware and electronics: It's currently drenched in Nitromors. I've decided to go for Sonic Blue as I've never had a bass in that colour and this is a practise run for the next Yamaha BB refinish which will be in Sea Foam Green, which is my absolute favourite colour. Here's a P bass in sonic blue to give you an idea not to be confused with the shade of blue that Sonic is: And here's what it looked like before
I don't agree with it's use in the studio though. What's wrong with overdubbing with the harmonies?
Unfortunately time = money. The soulless vampires in the music industries won't pay for multiple takes if they can correct and layer one (the first and only) take.

^ this. The TRB1005 could well turn out to be better than the Tanglewood and that would be gutting.
yeah Im chuffed to bits with it, although the headstock is massive compared to my Aria, a lot of tone is in the headstock though according to yngwie, thats why he has the big 70s headstocks on his strats, more wood more tone.
I wonder how my Status Streamline has such huge tone then? Not a scrap of wood in the thing.
Dont bother badassing ive done it and not noticed an appreciable difference. Dimarzio split humbucker..passive and kicks ass big style.
I found that the DP127 was a bit too much for vintage sounds but great for huge rock tones. It's not really a proper P sound though, so proceed with caution in this direction.

Karma has probably crushed the ignorant excuse for life that she had within her bones by now. Shame, she had such promise.

A friend of mine snapped the neck on his Gibson SG about 8 years ago, it was repaired in a similar way to this however it was much more severe than this looks and it had to have filler added to replace lost bits of mahogany. I remember looking at the SG thinking, there's no way... Eight years on and he's still gigging that guitar regularly with no problems. This G&L is maple necked and much more robust than that brittle mahogany neck on the SG. I'd buy it if I was looking for an L2000, it's a bargain.

By a used bass. That way you get a load more for your money and you don't end up paying 20% of the purchase price as VAT. The fact that you liked all three tells me that you'll easily find something you'll like as well as these. Why the rush?
tbh, this is really an impression rather than fact. They're all fine.
So, I ask all of you that have or have had shoddy Fenders, do you think was, in fact, your impression of their quality rather than their quality that was at fault? Are they in fact, all fine and if so why are there so many threads whining about the quality differences? And why don't we see similar threads about MusicMan?
i take it you don't drive peugeots, citroens, fiats and fords then
Correct.

Make sure you know the difference between sea foam green and surf green if you go down that route; they are quite different.
I agree with Lozz. The MIA P is THE bass. With it, you get a no-questions asked seat at the top table of bass playing. Strap on. Rock.
:-D I've wasted all that time learning to read, learning theory and technique and what I should have done was buy a US Fender Precision instead.
