2.
They're supposed to sound and play just great too.
I'm sure the guy in the video thought so
  3. Well, that's a new one on me! I kinda like it - it's got very retro pawnshop-type styling and I like the chrome bodystrip.
  4.
World guitars - Isn't that the one owned by the legend that is Jeff Pumfret???
That's the one! I bought a PRS Custom 22 there a while back. Amazing shop, it used to be a courthouse. The guitarist in my band bought a Mesa Boogie MkIV there and a couple of MusicMan guitars.
  5. Was just learning this song for a gig and spotted a bass I've never seen before. Any ideas what this is? And, yes, the miming is hilarious
  6. I love the colour and the whole P with J pups hybrid quality of it. Nice bass!
  7.
To get to Sting's bass playing you have to get past his silly, high-pitched voice and cod - Jamaican accent ...and I'm not prepred to do that, I'm afraid.
I love cod-Jamaican, I love anchovies too, in fact I'm really into any salty fish.
  8. MA's the man! Yes, it is very JPJ, indeed!
  9. Do you mean Sterling by MusicMan? The MusicMan Sterling is a premium bass. Here we go again

Here's the bridge fitted. Improvements in sustain and tension.

    Yamaha BB415
Thought you were selling it, there for a minute. Got all excited
I bought the BB415 to fill a gap and didn't expect to keep it long but it's outstanding especially with the Gotoh-alike (or Sadowsky-alike) bridge. I've managed to get a few dents and scratches on it now too so it's sort of firewood value for resale and consequently it's become worth more to me as a backup/beater than what I could get for it and I would certainly struggle to find a bass to match it at what I could sell it for.

Check out this 414x - crazy price for what is just a standard 414 with an extra bit of plastic! Someone had a bargain here on this 415, though the seller was creaming it at £30 on the shipping, especially as a business. BassDirect charge a tenner!
  13. I'm staggered in the lack of interest at this price! These are bloody brilliant basses and better than the BB414 predecessor, one of which went for over £300 used on evilBay last week. The pickups on these are great and it's a decent bit of alder under that sunburst finish. I'll stick my head above the parapet and say they are the same sort of quality as Japanese Fenders.
  14. Did a deal with James recently. Everything went to plan and a great guy to deal with. Highly recommended. Good luck in Uni, James!
  15. 2 x Grandmothers 1 x camel (male, 5 years old) 1 x week of "payments in kind" to undisclosed BC member 7 x contract killings And that's just my NS5!
  16.
anyone.....................?
yes, dude. PM sent.
  17. I've had both, I prefer the MXR, still got it, still use it. Love the "colour" switch. Love the sounds it gives. I've used it to DI straight to teh board without my rig (one gig only!) and it was very very good.

We've lost a genuine guru. A lot of us have learned a enormous amount from Si about all sorts of things. My condolences and sympathy to family and friends. Sean.
  19.
Take a look at the StageClix system then. Not cheap, though.
I use one of these - replaced my AKG unit last year. It's brilliant. No messing about with batteries, super long charge time, no latency issues, very robust and fits on the pedal board. It's really nicely made, try one.
  20.
LOL, haven't laughed that much for ages, and you know what, I'm keeping it, and for two reasons: 1. To give Sean something to believe in 2. Because (and I know it's grammatically incorrect to start a sentence with 'because') it's about time I realised that if you've got a good thing, it's often at a slight cost. If there's one process that's characterised my bass playing career it's the following:

Buy a pice of kit
Decide I love it but there's one little thing that could be better
Sell it and find another piece of kit that supposedly does it better
Find out that the first bit of kit was better after all
Buy back the first bit of kit, usually incurring a substantial financial loss in the process
That's how I went from Fender Precision to Fender Precision in five years and probably about five grand! As I said to Happy Jack this morning, this thing weighs a ton, but it saves on a gym membership. Everyone who's heard it has loved the tone, there's just something magical about it, and I'm pretty sure that if anything else did the same job, someone who'd owned both would have piped up by now! So, on the basis that nothing else is going to do the trick, and to save me selling it, buying ten cabs over the next two years, and then buying this baby back at double what I sold it for, it's staying! Thanks for the input above guys C
Fantastic, Chris! I think you should commission some company to make action figures of you and a P and your Boogie rig! Maybe Marvel could dream up a new superhero based on you and he could have special low frequecy superpowers  I think a lot of us have gone through this process and a lot of us still are going through it and will never realise that we are in this cycle. I'm really happy with my gear at the moment - I've gigged the same bass and amp since February and never thought once that they weren't perfect for me and what I do whereas before I used to be nickpicking all the time. A big chunk of this satisfaction I think comes from the fact that I've been happier with my playing this year too, more confidence, improved skills etc just from making a point of upping my woodshedding time and approaching it differently too. Before I get too philosophical... ...I have to agree that there is something magical about big Boogie stuff - I'm a huge fanboy!
  21. Please keep the Boogie cab, Chris. The world needs heroes and role models and while you're out there moving stupid amounts of are with your monster cab, it gives the rest of us something to aspire to, something to dream about, to regard with awe! and, get two more for your hi-fi anyway! I would seriously love a 1516 and a 400+ to drive it!

    Yamaha BB's
I am also confused as to the point regarding 'a Japanese guitar'. My Bacchus is MIJ and is flawless.
Ditto Sadowsky Metro. Japan is not a country with low overheads where companies manufacture to cut cost - it is also a country with a fine guitar making heritage a lot of very good luthiers.

    Yamaha BB's
Hi Sean , I have ordered a BB1024X from Thomann, they have told me they will be shipped from Japan end of Sept . Are you happy with the 2024 and do they justify the price tag for essentially a Japanese guitar? Thanks for your time. Martin.
Martin, The 2024x is made in Yamaha's custom shop in Japan, there are six guys producing around 400 instruments a year which include acoustic guitars and the stupendous SG1820 electric guitars and some other stuff. The 2024x and the 2025x I have are fabulous and are typical of high quality hand crafted instruments made by good luthiers, they are essentially Yamaha's showcase instrument. The fact that these are made in Japan and not in Brooklyn or Manhattan is neither here nor there as far as build goes, the same attention to detail has gone into these as into any custom shop instrument. The 1024x is the factory version and has a different body shape (yes it does ), it has nato stringers in place of mahogany and it hasn't had the ARE and IRA treatments that the 2024/5s have, helping to make them the most resonant basses I've played and the finish on them is as good as anything I've seen. I would guess, from my experience with other Yamahas that the 1024/5 models are fantastic instruments and looking at the prices that Thomann are selling them at I am tempted to buy one as a back up for my 4-string. I have a BB415 and that's fantastic, especially with the Gotoh-alike replacement bridge and from what I can see the 1024/5 models are a significant leap forward. All BBs seem very comfortable on the strap too and aren't tiring to play for long sets (that Spector starts to hurt after an hour! ) Verdict without playing a BB1024 myself: you can't go wrong What colour have you gone for? If you decide to sell it please give me first refusal. Sean
  24.
There's actually some subtlety in the song with the high up bass part in the verse but everybody just bashes through it at max volume. I get funny looks if I play the recorded version.
There's some cool phrases in there and I wanted to get them right as I think they're a bit muddy in the mix for me. So, do I prepare for funny looks, then?
