Hi Does anyone have a decent transcription of I Predict a Riot (Kaiser Chiefs) that I could have a copy of please? I found some TABs but they're rubbish as usual - proper dots would be fantastic. Many thanks Sean

To get you all interested in helping me find a fabulous name for my function band I thought I'd cynically draw your attention with a competition and prizes, afterall it works for thousands of companies everyday! I need some help in finding a name for a function band so I thought that there'd be no better place to find suggestions than BC! T We're having a real struggle finding a name that suits what we do and that ticks all the boxes that need ticking for the naming procedure. A bit of background about the band:

Female-fronted five-piece
Weddings/Functions as main target audience
Usual function band mix of rock/pop/soul/disco covers
Based in South Wales/West of England
The name needs to Google well, it needs to be easy to say down the phone without having to explain, repeat or spell to everyone. We'd prefer it to be two words. It needs to appeal to brides and mothers of the bride and it must be cool. Humourous names best avoided as are offensive ones. The .com domain name should also be available. A set of strings to the winning entry! Get those creative juices flowing - good luck to one and all. Sean

My second transaction with Barrie - just as smooth as the first. Great to see you again yesterday, Barrie. Some fabulous instruments you have there. Always a pleasure - all the comments above are absolutely spot on. I'm now a two Mesa Boogie household!

I use a pedalsnake so that I don't have any power supplies out at the board. The power supply I use is a 1700mA 1-spot by Visual Sound. It's quiet and saves loads of messing about. What I like most about it is that you can have your board up to about 18 - 20 feet infront of the amp - great for playing on big stages.

He's also really funny, has a very dry wit. Have a look at the promo videos for the Yamaha BB on YouTube that he geatures in... *I can't access YouTube here*
Select some notes. Right click. Select Properties. You can now change the "Note Head" to whatever symbol you require (a cross probably).
Thanks, I've been transcibing Don't Fear the Reaper - it's much better now.

Does anyone know how to represent dead (percussive notes) on Muse Score?
the contour isn't really that noticeable.
...until its binding edge starts cutting into your arm on a long gig. It's the shape of these basses that is the flaw in a very pretty design.

I've now added an aftermarket bridge to this bass and it's really taken it up a notch. The bridge was from WD Music and is a Gotoh 203-alike, it's nicely made, very dense and chrome finished. I needed to drill four new holes to mount it as it didn't line up exactly with the stock Yamaha bridge holes except for two of them and that gave me a good guide. The new bridge moves the anchor point of the strings back about an eighth of an inch and this has had a big impact on the low B which is really taught now and sustains very well. The sustain of the whole instrument is much better and it rings nicely. Sustain isn't for everyone, I know and it's not necessarily a good or desirable thing but for me it's important. Bass: £249 delivered Bridge: £32 delivered There are BB414/614/415/615 basses on ebay all the time and with a couple of simple mods they can be made into amazing value for money instruments; if you're looking for a beginner's bass, a knockaround or a cheap backup, I would recommend one all the way.

My BB2025x (Vintage White) arrived yesterday. Pics to follow soon. Fitted a Hipshot BT10 D-tuner to the BB2024x too - it's absolutely perfetto now!

For those of you that don't know it, GoodParty is a website where Joe Public can enter his needs for a band for his forthcoming event, stating location, event type and budget. Joe Bandbloke then comes along and buys the contact details of the person whose event he thinks he would like to play with a view to getting the booking. I've been signed up to GoodParty for ages now and occasionally buy the enquiry details but am yet to get lucky - in most cases they have changed their plans or decided on a DJ. Most of the enquiries I see on there are for weddings for £100-250. Now, quite what these monkeys think they are going to get for under £250 I have no idea and who if anyone ends up playing these events is a mystery. There are quite a few enquiries in the £250-500 bracket but a serious lack of decent paying events. Does anyone have any good experiences with this site? Do any of you actually play these £100-250 weddings and if so, why? And LemonRock - do any of you get bookings from that site? I stopped paying the fee as we were getting nothing through. Most of our work comes from agents and word of mouth but I like to open up as many routes to market as possible.

Assuming the pups are Yamaha BB shaped, there's not a lot of replacements that will go in there, so I'd suggest contacting Wizard Pickups who will take your existing ones and do pretty much whatever you want with a rewind or whatever - give Andy a call for some no nonsense advice http://www.wizardpickups.co.uk/contact.asp

It's all very much appreciated and has improved my reading loads. I was handed some sheet music with a relatively simple bass part the other day and was playing through in no time. That would not have been anywhere near as quick a process as maybe a year ago. The triplet lesson is fantastic.

The truth is that I now have over 1000 sign in names.
Why do we spend thousands on valve amps and cabs made by say Ampeg, wouldn't a comparable valve amp and cabs do the same job at half the price but have Yamaha and OLP as well..... and use them all.
What all-valve amp is comparable at half the price? All-valve amps are inherently expensive. Careful with Yamaha, some of us have really £££ Yams! I totally get the Fender thing, though, I wouldn't be seen dead with a USA or Mexico one :snob:

Proper photos; those Yamaha catalogue shots are weird, like they aren't even real photos.
Being inexperienced bass wise and the wrong side of 35, Is this just something in my area (central scotland) or are we a rare breed country wide?
In a few years you will be neither inexperienced or on the wrong side of 35, so as long as you keep playing and stay alive, that'll be sorted. And, no, there really are a hell of a lot of bassists out there. I know of 7 others in the company I work for including the CEO and that's without all the folk I know who play in bands. I think what there is, is a genuine shortage of are reliable bass players that have the time and inclination to commit to a band. There are loads of folks out there playing with being in a band, who do it when they have nothing else to do. Not just bassists either.

I've done a load of soft skills and coaching courses and I always end up thinking what I learn is more useful in band environments than it is in work. A great book for brushing up on these skills is http://clconsulting.co.uk/CLC/The_Z-A_of_Coaching.html It's the kind of book you can dip in and out of rather than read cover to cover - it's helped me tackle a hell of a lot of band issues over the years.

Follow this link for details http://www.gearslutz.com/board/low-end-the...microphone.html It has jack outputs (two mono). £3 minimum donation to Basschat.

This'll be about £3 posted maximum so a £3 minimum donation to Basschat for this. It's as new boxed and is suitable for a load of Tascam stuff. Check their website for details. It doesn't fit standard pedals - it's a proprietary Tascam size.
All my basses get an overhaul every five years.
If my service interval for instruments was this long, I'd be left with nothing but a pile of rusting, decaying lumps of wood and metal!
